Detailed SBI PO Mains 2017 Syllabus and Exam Pattern

Here we are sharing with you the detailed SBI PO Mains 2017 Syllabus and Exam Pattern of SBI PO Main 2016 Exam.

Phase II or Main Examination will consist of Objective Tests for 200 marks and Descriptive Test for 50 marks. Both the Objective and Descriptive Tests will be online. Candidates will have to answer Descriptive test by typing on the computer. Immediately after completion of Objective Test, Descriptive Test will be administered.

(I) Objective Test: The objective test of 3 hours duration consist of 4 Sections for total 200 marks. The objective test will have separate timing for every section. The candidates are required to qualify in each of the Tests by securing passing marks, to be decided by the Bank. Each section has different time limit. You cannot choose section of your own. 

(II) Descriptive Test: The Descriptive Test of 30 minutes duration with 50 marks will be a Test of English Language (Letter Writing & Essay). The candidates are required to qualify in the Descriptive Test by securing passing marks, to be decided by the Bank.

Descriptive Test paper of only those candidates will be evaluated who have scored qualifying marks in the Objective Tests and are placed adequately high as per total marks in objective test.

The syllabus for SBI PO Mains 2017 Exam is as:

Quantitative Aptitude 

Though in the syllabus provided by SBI, only Data Interpretation and Analysis is written. But Data Interpretation is not only tabular or other charts (bar-graph, line chart, etc.). It means that some data is given and you have to analyze and interpret it to know the answers of the questions. So some other topics like time and work, profit/loss/discount, etc. can also be asked. Apart from this be prepared for calculative and time taking Data Interpretation questions in SBI PO exam. We will provide you with such questions regularly and leave no stone unturned in your preparation for SBI.
Each year Probability topic is surely asked in SBI PO Data Interpretation and Analysis section. So Probability topic is expected this year also.

The syllabus of this section will be:

  • Data Interpretation (Tabular, Missing DI, Caselet, Bar Graph, Pie Chart, Line Graph, Radar Chart) based on miscellaneous topics like – Time and Work, Partnership, Profit and Loss, Mensuration, Simple/Compound interest, Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, Averages, etc.
  • Miscellaneous Questions (Word Problems) based on Partnership, Time and Work, Profit and Loss, Mensuration, Time Distance and Speed, Boats and Streams, Simple/Compound interest, Mixture and Alligation, Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, Averages, Problems on Ages, etc
  • Data Sufficiency
  • Probability
  • Inequalities (New Pattern)
  • Number Series

Reasoning and Computer Aptitude

The Reasoning Section Questions and Computer Aptitude Questions will be asked in a single section. Do not confuse computer aptitude with computer awareness questions. Both are different. Computer Awareness will not be asked in the SBI PO Main Exam.

The syllabus of this section will be:

  • Puzzles and Seating Arrangements (Linear/Circular/Rectangle Arrangement, Boxes based, Floor based,  Blood Realtion arrangement, etc.)
  • Syllogism
  • Machine Input/Output
  • Coding/Decoding
  • Decision Making
  • Data Sufficiency
  • Inequalities
  • Miscellaneous like Blood Relation, Direction Sense, Ranking, etc
  • Critical Reasoning (Statement and Assumptions, Conclusions)
  • Computer Aptitude Questions

This section checks your thinking ability. How do you react to puzzled problems? This section always contains the unexpected questions with many puzzles and alike questions. In this section also you can expect lengthy puzzles and lengthy questions, so be prepared.

English Language

Last year SBI introduced new type of questions in English Section. Only Reading Comprehension was asked from the old syllabus. All other were new pattern questions like sentence connectors, paragraph completion, odd sentences, etc.

Here also somewhat pattern can be changed. But almost questions are expected to be in same pattern as asked last year.

General/Economy/Banking Awareness

Current Affairs Section was easy to moderate. Last year in many exams CA was asked from last 6 months. So we advise you to read current affairs from the month of January 2017 plus demonetization topic of December 2016 for the Exam.

As told above, descriptive section will contain a letter (20 marks) and an essay (30 marks) writing with a total of 50 marks. 
The topics which remain trending in India and the World are asked in essay writing. The letter asked are formal/informal which remain very easy for everyone to write. 
Also you will be given choice to write letter and essay. Last year 3 choices each for letter and essay were given.
If you write words which are used in newspapers, this will be a plus point for you. So keep reading Newspaper. Also hold on English Grammar is necessary.

Topics asked in SBI PO Main 2016 Exam –
(1) Letter:

  • Letter to editor describing the use of selfies among youth
  • Letter to parents as a principal regarding their responsibility towards their wards.
  • Letter to the parents, telling them about the challenges you are facing after shifting to a new city for job

(2) Essay:

  • Effect of Salary Increase of Government Employees on Economy.
  • Importance of knowing history of nation for a citizen.
  • Effect of The New Game Pokemon GO.
