1. Abjure (verb) – To give up a belief or an activity ; formally reject or go back on

  • Synonyms:  Withdraw, Deny, Reject, Forswear, Recant, Renege, Renounce, Repeal, Repudiate
  • Antonyms:  Adhere, Accept, Affirm, Uphold, Maintain

  • Usage: At my house, my German Shepherd is the sentinel who keeps anyone from coming inside without permission.

8. Caprice (noun) – An impulsive act; a sudden and unaccountable change of mood or behaviour.

  • Synonyms: Crank, Fancy, Freak, Humor, Kink, Impulse, Notion, Vagary, Vagrancy, Whim, Whimsy
  • Antonyms:   Constancy, Stability, Firmness, Steadiness
  • Usage: Because John did not think before acting, he could spend the next ten years in prison for a silly caprice.

9. Dingy (adjective) – Thickly covered with ingrained dirt ; not clean

10. Banal (adjective) – Boring because it contains nothing new and lacks originality

  • Antonyms:  Fresh, Original, New, Creative, Exciting, Interesting
  • Usage: Because the movie’s plot was banal, we knew exactly how the film would end.
