Reasoning: Direction Sense Questions Set 15 (New Pattern)

(Directions): Read the following information carefully and answer the questions given below it:

Nine bikes – M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, T and U were parked at some distance from each other in a parking area. O was 16 m ! to that of N. M was 6 m & of that of N and T was 12 m * of that of M. S was 8 m ^ of that of T while P was 24 m ! of that of S and R was 12 m & of that of S. U was situated just in the middle of N and O while Q was just in the middle of T and P.

Here, & means North, * means South, ! means East and ^ means West
If two symbols are simultaneously given then both directions will be taken.

For example,
A&!B means B is to the North-East of A
A&!B means B is to the North-East of A

  1. Which of the following is/are true about N?
    I. U^N&^R
    II. N*^S
    III. N*!P

    All are true
    Both I and II
    Only I
    Both II and III
    Only III
    Option A
    O was 16 m ! to that of N. M was 6 m & of that of N and T was 12 m * of that of M.
O was 16m to the east of N. M was 6m to the north of N and T was 12m to the south of M.

    I. N is west of U and R is north – west of N.
II. S is south – west of N.
III. P is south – east of N.
    Hence, all are true.

  2. What is the direction of P with respect to R?

    South
    South – west
    North – east
    North – west
    South – east
    Option E
    S was 8 m ^ of that of T while P was 24 m ! of that of S and R was 12 m & of that of S.
S was 8m to the west of T while P was 24m to the east of S and R was 12m to the north of S.

Hence, direction of P is south – east with respect to R.

  3. What is the shortest distance between bike N and bike R?

    12m
    10m
    9m
    11m
    None of these
    Option B
U was situated just in the middle of N and O while Q was just in the middle of T and P.

    Shortest distance between bike N and bike R = √(82 + 62) = √64 + 36 m = 10m

  4. Which of the following bikes lie in the straight line?

    S and N
    O and T
    S and Q
    Q and M
    None of these
    Option C
S and Q lie in the straight line.

  5. What is the direction of Q with respect to U?

    South
    South – west
    North – east
    North
    None of these
    Option A
Direction of Q with respect to U is south.

  6. Directions: Study the following information and answer the given questions.
Seven friends E, F, G, H, I, J and K had their offices situated along a straight row facing the north. They like different colours among Violet, Indigo, Orange, Brown, Purple, Golden and Silver but not necessarily in the same order. The distance between the neighbour offices was a successive integral multiple of 5km and distance will be increased from left to right.
E’s office was third to the left of the official who likes golden colour. F’s office was 135km to the right of the official who likes brown colour. G’s office was exactly between K’s office and the official who likes silver colour. The official who likes purple colour was to the immediate left of the official who likes orange colour. The official who likes orange colour was 115km to the left of H’s office. The official who likes golden colour was the neighbour of H’s office. The official who likes brown colour was 85km away from I’s office. The official who likes violet colour had office at one of the extreme ends. K did not like indigo colour and distance between any two offices was less than 80 km.

  7. Which colour does J likes?
    Violet
    Golden
    Indigo
    Silver
    Purple
    Option B
The distance between any two offices was less than 80 km.
The minimum distance mentioned in the question is 85km.
So, the distance between two offices cannot be 5km as (5 + 80 = 85) which is not possible.

F’s office was 135km to the right of the official who likes brown colour. The official who likes golden colour was the neighbour of H’s office. The official who likes brown colour was 85km away from I’s office.
This is possible in only one condition when distance between F and the official who likes brown colour is successive integral of 5 as (40 – 45 – 50).

    Hence, J likes golden colour.

  8. What is the distance between G and the official who likes orange colour?
    95km
    170km
    150km
    135km
    85km
    Option D
The official who likes orange colour was 115km to the left of H’s office.

Hence, distance between G and the official who likes orange colour is 135km.

  9. How many offices are there between E and the official who likes indigo colour?
    None
    One
    Two
    Three
    Four
    Option D
The official who likes golden colour was the neighbour of H’s office. E’s office was third to the left of the official who likes golden colour.

Hence, three offices are there between E and the official who likes indigo colour.

  10. Who among the following sits to the immediate left of I?
    E
The one who likes orange colour
    K
The one who likes indigo colour
    F
    Option A
The official who likes purple colour was to the immediate left of the official who likes orange colour.

Hence, E sits to the immediate left of I.

  11. Who among the following has distance of 190km between them?

E, The one who likes orange colour
    F, H
G, The one who likes golden colour
G, The one who likes orange colour
    None of these
    Option C
G’s office was exactly between K’s office and the official who likes silver colour. The official who likes violet colour had office at one of the extreme ends. K did not like indigo colour and distance between any two offices was less than 80 km.

Hence, G and the one who likes golden colour have distance of 190km between them.
