NATIONAL NEWS

Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan Being Implemented in 25 Villages each of 111 Aspirational Districts

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare has launched the Krishi Kalyan Abhiyaan from June 1, 2018 till July 31, 2018.

  • The initiative is in line with the Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of doubling farmers’ income by 2022 and will aid, assist and advice farmers on how to improve their farming techniques and raise their incomes.
  • The Krishi Kalyan Abhiyaan will be undertaken in 25 Villages with more than 1000 population each in 111 Aspirational Districts identified in consultation with Ministry of Rural Development as per directions of NITI Ayog. In districts where number of villages (with more than 1000 population) is less than 25, all villages will be covered.
  • The overall coordination and implementation in the 25 villages of a district is being done by Krishi Vigyan Kendra of that district.

Government launches ‘JANAUSHADHI SUVIDHA’ Oxo-biodegradable Sanitary Napkin under PMBJP

The Government of India has launched the ‘JANAUSHADHI SUVIDHA’, the Oxo-biodegradable Sanitary Napkin, under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) in a move to achieve Prime Minster Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of Affordable and Quality Healthcare for All.

  • The affordable sanitary napkins will now become available at Rs. 2.50 per pad over 3600 Janaushadhi Kendras functional in 33 States/UTs across India.
  • Jan Aushadhi Suvidha would ensure Affordability and Hygiene since it comes with a special additive, which makes it biodegradable when it comes in contact with oxygen after being discarded.

Food Processing Ministry to Create New Financial Institution to Fund Food Processing Sector

The Ministry of Food Processing Industries has announced to create a new financial institution that will cater exclusively to the credit and lending needs of the food processing sector.

  • The Ministry expects to bring out an RFP (request for proposal) by July for the Agro-Processing Financial Institution.
  • It will be a non-banking financial institution with 20% government equity investment amounting to Rs 400 crore.

India gets cheapest LNG as Russia’s Gazprom begins supplies

India received its first Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) cargo, LNG KANO, from Russia’s Gazprom at the Petronet LNG terminal in Dahej, Gujarat on June 4, 2018.

  • The LNG cargo carried 3.4 TBTU of LNG.
  • State-owned gas utility GAIL India Ltd and Gazprom Marketing and Trading Singapore (GMTS) of Russia entered long term contract as per which GAIL will purchase about 2.5 million tonne of LNG from Gazprom on annual basis.

Asia’s 1st 13 ‘Blue Flag’ Beaches To Be Developed in India

13 Indian beaches will soon get the Blue Flag certification. These beaches of Odisha, Maharashtra and other coastal states will be the first in not just India, but in Asia, to get the Blue Flag certification.

  • To get Blue Flag standards, a beach has to strictly comply with 33 environment and tourism related conditions.
  • The Indian beaches are being developed according to the Blue Flag certification standards by the Society for Integrated Coastal Management (SICOM), an environment ministry’s body working for the management of coastal areas.
  • Project Head of SCIOM Arvind Nautiyal said that to make the beaches environment and tourist-friendly in accordance with the Blue Flag standards, a beach has to be plastic-free and be equipped with a waste management system besides being environment friendly, clean and equipped with amenities of international standards for tourists.

Bengaluru to host UN Global Compact Network India convention

The 13th National Convention of the Global Compact Network India (GCNI), a local network of the United Nations Global Compact in New York, will be held in Bengaluru on June 8.

  • The theme of the convention is Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): A Blueprint for Action.
  • This year, the GCNI convention is of a greater significance as it is coinciding with the UN India Business Forum being hosted by Bengaluru on June 7.
  • As part of a long term association, Accenture, will support the event as the Knowledge Partner of GCNI while D K Hota, CMD, BEML is the convention’s Chairman and Shashi Shanker, CMD, ONGC, is its President.

Infosys completes acquisition of WongDoody

The global leader in consulting, technology and next-generation service firm Infosys has announced that it has completed the acquisition of US-based Wongdoody for nearly $75 million.

  • The acquisition is in accordance with the terms set out in the agreement announced by Infosys on April 13, 2018.
  • WONGDOODY is an award-winning creative and consumer insights agency with studios in Seattle and Los Angeles.
  • With this acquisition, Infosys enhances its digital experience services ecosystem with services ranging from strategy, design and user experience, to creative and digital marketing across the customer experience value chain.

3 Indian Naval Ships to participate in Malabar Exercise 2018

The Indian Naval Ships Sahyadri, Shakti and Kamorta of the Eastern Fleet would be participating in the 22nd edition of Malabar Exercise, off Guam, US from June 7 to 16, 2018.

  • As per a government release, the three Indian Naval Ships are scheduled to reach Guam on June 7 to take part in the Harbour Phase of the exercise. It is for the first time the Malabar Exercise is being conducted at/ off Guam

Mahesh Kumar Jain appointed as Dy Governor of RBI

Mahesh Kumar Jain has been appointed as Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for a term of three years.

  • Presently, he is the Managing Director and CEO of IDBI Bank. Before his role in IDBI, Jain was the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Indian Bank.

Financial Literacy Week Begins

The Reserve Bank of India launched the Financial Literacy Week across the country on June 4 with Customer Protection as its main theme. The week long event will end on June 8.

  • It will focus on creating awareness among customers of banks about financial products and services, good financial practices and going digital.
  • The week will focus on four consumer protection messages including ‘know your liability’ for unauthorised electronic banking transaction and good practices for a safe digital banking experience.

The first official World Bicycle Day was observed on June 3, 2018.

  • On 12 April 2018, the United Nations (UN) declared June 3 World Bicycle Day.
  • The Day aims to encourage a simple, affordable, reliable, clean and environmentally fit sustainable means of transportation.
  • A mega cycling event was organised at Connaught Place by New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) in collaboration with Smartbike and World Cycling Alliance. It was flagged off by Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu from Charkha Museum.

On the other hand, through everything that I have personally seen, I just simply trust when the feed-back pile on that men and women remain on point and not get started upon a soap box involving some other news of the day. Yet, thank you for this fantastic piece and though I can not really agree with this in totality, I respect your perspective.
