Directions (1 – 5): Answer the questions on the basis of the information given below.

A string of numbers is given as input. The further steps given are obtained by applying certain logic. Numbers of step II have been obtained by using at least 1 digit of each number in step I. Each step is a resultant of previous step only. None of the pattern is repeated in any steps

Input:

  1. What is the average of numbers obtained in step 2 and 3?
    A) 12.75
    B) 16.25
    C) 13.50
    D) 15.45
    E) Other than options given
    View Answer
     Option B
    Solution:
Steps in given example are as:

    Step I: 82……33…..22
    Step II:     48……12
    Step III:     4……..1
    Step IV:         2.5
  2. What is the ratio of numbers obtained in Step 2 respectively?
    A) 3 : 7
    B) 1 : 3
    C) 4 : 1
    D) 4 : 5
    E) 6 : 5
    View Answer
     Option C
    Solution:
    48/12 = 4/1
  3. Find the difference between sum of numbers obtained in 1st step and sum of numbers obtained in all other steps.
    A) 87.5
    B) 77.5
    C) 65.5
    D) 61.5
    E) 69.5
    View Answer
     Option E
    Solution:
    Required difference = (82+33+22) – (48+12+4+1+2.5)
  4. What is the difference between the largest and the smallest numbers obtained in step I?
    A) 67
    B) 70
    C) 60
    D) 61
    E) 58
    View Answer
     Option C
    Solution:
    Required difference = 82 – 22
  5. If in step IV, out of the two operations performed, only first was performed then in step IV number resultant would be?
    A) 4
    B) 3
    C) 2
    D) 6
    E) 5
    View Answer
     Option E
    Solution:
For step IV, operations are add and divide by 2. So when only numbers are added, the number becomes = 4+1 = 5

Directions (6 – 10): Answer the questions on the basis of the information given below.
A number arrangement machine when given an input of words/numbers, rearranges them following a particular rule in each step. The following is an illustration of input and steps of rearrangement.
Input: launch army 19 is 53 41 unit firm 64 basic 32 74
Step 1: 76 launch army is 53 41 unit firm 64 basic 32 17
Step 2: 66 76 launch army is 53 unit firm basic 32 17 39
Step 3: 34 66 76 launch army is unit firm basic 17 39 51
Step 4: launch 34 66 76 is unit firm basic 39 51 81 army
Step 5: firm launch 34 66 76 unit basic 39 51 81 army is
Step 6: basic firm launch 34 66 76 39 51 81 army is unit
This is the final arrangement and step 6 is the last step for this input.

Input: hut 16 65 joint 90 ocean 41 54 import east 22 85 pressure 23

  1. What is the position of ‘import’ in step 3 from left end?
    A) 10th
    B) 9th
    C) 5th
    D) 6th
    E) 8th
    View Answer
    Option E
Observe the last step: consonant alphabetically ascending order, then even number in ascending, then odd numbers in ascending and then vowels alphabetically ascending.
Even numbers increased by 2, and odd numbers decreased 2 when they are placed in next step.
    Input: hut 16 65 joint 90 ocean 41 54 import east 22 85 pressure 23
    Step 1: 92 hut 16 65 joint ocean 41 54 import east 22 85 pressure 21
    Step 2: 56 92 hut 16 65 joint ocean import east 22 85 pressure 21 39
    Step 3: 24 56 92 hut 16 joint ocean import east 85 pressure 21 39 63
    Step 4: 18 24 56 92 hut joint ocean import east pressure 21 39 63 83
    Step 5: pressure 18 24 56 92 hut joint ocean import 21 39 63 83 east
    Step 6: joint pressure 18 24 56 92 hut ocean 21 39 63 83 east import
    Step 7: hut joint pressure 18 24 56 92 21 39 63 83 east import ocean
  2. In step 4, if ‘92’ is related to ‘ocean’ and ‘import’ is related to ‘21’ in a certain way, then ‘pressure’ is related to which of the following?
    A) 39
    B) 63
    C) import
    D) joint
    E) None of these
    View Answer
    Option B
  3. What is the sum of numbers – 3rd from the left end in step 4 and 4th from the right end in step 5?
    A) 68
    B) 85
    C) 82
    D) 95
    E) 77
    View Answer
    Option D
    56+39 = 95
  4. In which of the following steps are words ‘import east pressure 21’ occur together?
    A) 2
    B) 4
    C) 6
    D) 5
    E) There is no such step
    View Answer
    Option B

Thanks team ! One doubt ! In step three we will get the same answer either we do subtract from Ist # of first digit with second # of first digit or 2nd # of 2nd digit , In the same way 2nd number of Ist digit with first digit of 2nd number. We ll get two different ans , as nothing as mentioned in the criteria that we don’t use 2nd digit first. Please help me to understand!
