Mixed Quantitative Aptitude Questions Set 118

  1. Ram spends 20% and 15% of his income on education and food resp. and 25% and 12% of the remaining income on transportation and entertainment resp. and thereby saves Rs.5733. What is the amount spent by Ram on food?
    Rs.2000
    Rs.1500
    Rs.2500
    Rs.2100
    Rs.1800
    Option D
    Let the income be Rs.x. Amount spend on education = 0.2*100x = 20x
    Amount spend on food = 0.15*100x = 15x
    Remaining amount = 100x – (20x+15x) = 65x
    Amount spent on transportation = 0.25*65x = 16.25x
    Amount spent on Entertainment = 0.12*65x = 7.8x
    Amount saved = 65x – (16.25x+7.8x) = 40.95x
    Now, 40.95x = 5733
    =>x = 140
    Amount spend on food = 15*140 = Rs.2100

  2. A shopkeeper is giving a discount of 20% on the marked price but a customer bargains and the shopkeeper sells him at Rs.240 less than he was supposed to sell. If the profit of the shopkeeper is decreased from 80% to 50%. Find the marked price of the item.
    1200
    1800
    1600
    1000
    900
    Option B
    Let the marked price of the article be x.
    CP be Rs.y
    1.8y = 0.8x —–(1)
    And 1.5y = 0.8x – 240 —–(2)
    Solve both the equations,
    1.8y = 1.5y + 240
    => y = Rs.800
    x = (1.8*800)/0.8 = 1800

  3. The average weight of group of (x-4) students is (x-5) kg. If a teacher of weight 54 kg joins the class, the average weight of the group is increased by 1 kg. Find the strength of the group excluding the teacher.
    18
    22
    14
    20
    34
    Option B
    Total weight of the group = (x-4)*(x+5 ) kg
    Weight of class teacher = 54 kg
    Now, {(x-4)(x+5) +54}/{(x-4)+1} = (x+5)+1
    => x = 26
    Strength = 26 – 4= 22

  4. The ratio of male to female in a village is 5:4, and the difference between the number of males and females is 336. Find the population of the village.
    2956
    3312
    3024
    2850
    3120
    Option C
    Let the number of male and female be 5x and 4x resp. Population of village = 9x
    Now, 5x – 4x = 336
    => x = 336
    Population of village = 9*336 = 3024

  5. A and B started a workshop together with total investment of Rs.7200 in the ratio of 2:1 resp. After 4 months, C replaces B with an investment 50% more than investment of B. After a year, they earned a total profit of Rs.15000. A distributed his profit of share among his four sons equally. Find the amount received by each son.
    Rs.2457
    Rs.2000
    Rs.2360
    Rs.2250
    Rs.2120
    Option D
    Investment of A = [2/(2+1)]*7200 =Rs.4800
    Investment of B = [1/(2+1)]*7200 = Rs.2400
    Investment of C = 2400*1.5 = Rs.3600
    Ratio of Profit share: A:B:C = (4800*12): (2400*4): [3600*(12-4)] = 6:1:3
    Share of A in total profit = [6/(6+1+3)]*15000 = Rs.9000
    Amount of share received by each son of A = 9000/4 = Rs.2250

  6. A,B and C can do a certain piece of work in 32,24 and 28 days resp. They started working together but after ‘x’ days A left the job and ‘x+1’ days before completion of the work B also left. Find the value of ‘x^2 – 2x + 20’ if the whole work is completed in ‘4x-2’ days.
    20
    28
    22
    31
    36
    Option B
    Total work = LCM(24,28 and 32) = 672 units
    Amount of work done by A in one day = 672/32 = 21 units
    Amount of work done by B in one day = 672/24 =28 units
    Amount of work done by C in one day = 672/28 = 24 units
    A worked for x days, B worked for ‘4x-2- (x+1)’ = ‘3x-3’ days and C worked for ‘4x-2’ days
    Now, 21x + 84x – 84 + 96x – 48 = 672
    =>x = 4
    Value of x = x^2 – 2x + 20 = 28

  7. The ratio of marks obtained by Aman to the total marks which can be obtained in theory is 7:10. Total marks which can be obtained in practicals were 20% of the total marks of theory. If Aman got full marks in practical. Find the ratio of marks obtained by Aman to the total marks which can be obtained in the subject (theory and practical).
    3:5
    2:3
    3:4
    5:6
    1:2
    Option C
    Let the marks obtained by Aman in theory and total marks of theory be 7x and 10x resp.
    Total marks = 10x+2x = 12x
    Marks obtained by Aman (theory and practical) = 7x+2x = 9x
    Required ratio = 9x/12x = 3:4

  8. Monthly incomes of A and B are Rs.42600 and Rs.48500 resp. A spends 29%, 17% and 42% of his total income in food, rent and other expenses resp. while B spends 24%, 19% and 38% of his total income in food, rent and other expenses resp. and rest of the amount are saved by both of them. Find the difference between the amount saved by A and B.
    Rs.4556
    Rs.4234
    Rs.4440
    Rs.4103
    Rs.4000
    Option D
    Amount saved by A= [100 – (29+17+42)]% of 42600
    = Rs.5112
    Amount saved by B = [100 – (24+19+38)]% of 48500 = Rs.9215
    Required Difference = Rs.4103

    Rs.2810
    Rs.2250
    Rs.2330
    Rs.2545
    Rs.2120
    Option B
    Investment of A = [2/(2+1)]*7200 = Rs.4800
    Investment of B = [1/(2+1)]*7200 = Rs.2400
    Investment of C = 2400*1.5 = Rs.3600
    Ratio of Profit share: A:B:C = (4800*12): (2400*4): [3600*(12-4)] = 6:1:3
    Share of A in total profit = [6/(6+1+3)]*15000 = Rs.9000
    Amount of share received by each son of A = 9000/4 = Rs.2250
