# Mixed Quantitative Aptitude Questions Set 44 (Based on RRB PO Prelims)

Quantitative Aptitude Questions for IBPS RRB/PO/Clerk, SBI PO, NIACL, NICL, RBI Grade B/Assistant, BOI, Bank of Baroda and other competitive exams.

The following questions were asked in 1st and 2nd shift in RRB PO Prelims Exam on 8th September 2017.

1. B has an item whose cost price is 60% more than A’s. If B sells it in 20% loss and A sells his item at 60% profit then the difference between their selling price is Rs 160. Find the selling price of B at 10% profit.

So SP = 800 + 10/100 * 800 = Rs 880
2. A can do a work in 15 days. B is 50% more efficient than A. They started work together. B left the work after some days and A does the remaining 1/3rd work. For how many days they worked together?
A) 8 days
B) 5 days
C) 7 days
D) 6 days
E) 4 days

Solution:
A= 15
B = 10
LCM = 30 = Total work
A = 30/15 = 2
B = 30/10 = 3
Together 2+3 = 5……………..(1)
1/3rd of total work = 1/3 * 30 = 10
So work they did together = 30-10 = 20……………(2)
So 20/5 = 4 days
3. B will be 29 years old after 7 years. Ratio of A’s age 1 year hence to B’s age 2 years ago is 5 : 4. Find after how many years A will become 29 years old?
A) 5 years
B) 4 years
C) 3 years

Solution:
B today = 22 years old
5 : 4
so 4 => 22-2=20 (4 is for 2 years ago)
So 5 == 25
25 is 1 yr hence. So today A is 24 years old. So after 5 years he will be 29 years old
4. A invested Rs 1200 in a business. After few months B joined him with Rs 1500. At the end of year, B got Rs 750 out of a total profit of Rs 1950. Find after how many months did B join?
A) 8 months
B) 7 months
C) 4 months
D) 6 months
E) 5 months

1200*12 : 1500*x
So 1200*12/1500*x = 1200/750
Solve, x = 6
So joined after 12-6 = 6 months
5. A boat covers 9.6 km downstream in 36 minutes. If the speed of stream is 1.6 km/hr then find in how much time (in minutes) will the boat cover 19.2 km upstream?
A) 80
B) 102
C) 90
D) 86

9.6/360 * 60 = 16 km/hr
16 – (1.6*2) = 12.8 km/hr
19.2/12.8 * 60 = 90 minutes
6. A train crosses a 205 m long train in 16 seconds coming in opposite direction. If the total of speed of both trains is 25 m/sec, find the difference in the lengths of both trains.
A) 230 m
B) 225 m
C) 190 m
D) 195 m

(x+205)/16 = 25

7. The average of two consecutive even numbers is 109 and the average of two consecutive odd numbers is 114. If the smaller odd number is 3 greater than the larger even number then what is the sum of the smaller odd number and the larger even number.

Solution:
When there is average of even consecutive numbers, then that is number in between the previous and next numbers
Like here, 109 is average so numbers are 108 and 110
Similarly in case of even numbers. Average is 114 so numbers are 113 and 114
So required answer is 113+110 = 223
8. The ratio of Curved Surface Area to Total Surface Area of Cylinder is 3:5. If the curved surface area of the cylinder is 1848 metre square, find the height of the cylinder.
A) 21 m
B) 32 m
C) 10 m

Solution:
CSA = 2*pie*r*h
TSA = 2*pie*r(r+h)
So 2*pie*r*h/2*pie*r(r+h) = 3/5
2h = 3r
2* 22/7 * r * h = 22/7 * r * 3r = 1848
Solve, r = 14 m
So h = 3r/2 = 3*14/2 = 21 m
9. 2 quantities of rice. 1 – 14 kg bought at 60 Rs per kilo. 2 – 18 kg bought at x Rs per kilo. They are mixed and the mixture was sold for Rs 65 on which there was profit of 33.33%. Find the cost price (per kg) of second type of rice.
A) Rs 40

Solution:
Profit = 33.33% = 100/3% = 1/3……So CP = 3, SP = 3+1 = 4
SP = Rs 65, So
4 == 65
CP =3/4 * 65 == 48.75
