  1. If 90% of X = 30% of Y and Y = x% of X, then find the value of x .
    A) 210
    B) 150
    C) 200
    D) 300
    E) 350
    View Answer
    Option D
    Solution:
    (90 * X)/100 = (30 * Y)/100
    => Y = 3X
    Y = (x*X)/100
    => 3X * 100 = x*X
    => x = 300
  2. Fresh cherries contains 85% water by weight , whereas dried cherries contain 15% water by weight . How many kg of dried cherries can be obtained from 3.4kg of fresh cherries ?
    A) 0.6kg
    B) 0.5 kg
    C)0.6 kg
    D) 0.9 kg
    E) 1.2 kg
    View Answer
    Option C
    Solution:
    Fresh cherries * 15% = Dry cherries * 85%
    => Fresh / Dry = 85/15 = 17/3
    Dried cherries can be obtained  from 3.4 kg of fresh cherries = (3/17)*3.4 =  0.6 kg
  3. A man travels from A to B at a speed of 80 kmph and returns to B by increasing his speed by 50%. What is his average speed for both the journey?
    A) 80 kmph
    B) 75 kmph
    C) 90 kmph
    D) 96 kmph
    E) 88 kmph
    View Answer
    Option D
    Solution:
    speed from B to A = (80 * 150)/100 = 120 kmph
    Average speed = (2 * 120 * 80)/(120+80) = 96 kmph
  4. The volume of the cube is equal to the sum of its edges . What is its total surface area in square units?
    A) 60 sq. units
    B) 80 sq. units
    C) 88 sq. units
    D) 70 sq. units
    E) 72 sq. units
    View Answer
    Option E
    Solution:
    Let x be the side of the square.
    Now, a^3 = 12a
    => a^2 = 12
    Total surface area = 6a^2 = 6* 12 = 72 sq. units
  5. If a certain sum of money becomes double itself in 3 years . In how much time will be 64 times of itself?
    A) 11 years
    B) 18 years
    C) 20 years
    D) 12 years
    E) 15 years
    View Answer
    Option B
    Solution:
    For the first time , the sum doubles = 2^1 ——- 3 years
    2^6 = 64———- 6 * 3 = 18 years
  6. Two pipes P and Q fills a cistern in 18 and 24 hrs respectively. Both filling pipes are open together but 6 hrs before the cistern will fill pipe P is closed. In how much time will the cistern take to fill ?
    A) 15(1/4)hrs.
    B) 11(1/7)hrs.
    C) 12(1/2)hrs.
    D) 13(5/7)hrs.
    E) 10(1/3)hrs.
    View Answer
    Option D
    Solution:
    A————– 18 hrs
    B———— 24 hrs
    Total capacity of the tank = 72 L
    A can fill ———- 4 l/hr.
    B can fill ———– 3 l/hr.
    Pipe P is closed 6 hrs. before the cistern fill , so 24 l is filled by pipe Q
    now total 72 + 24 = 96 is filled by both of them
    Therefore, 96 / (3+4) = 96/7 = 13(5/7) hrs.
  7. A tree was planted 2 years ago. It increases at the rate of 20% every year. If at present , the height of the rate is 540cm , what was it when the tree was planted?
    A) 375 cm
    B) 440 cm
    C) 350 cm
    D) 310 cm
    E) 210 cm
    View Answer
    Option A
    Solution:
    Let the height be x cm.
    Therefore, 540 = x{1 + (20/100)}
    => 540 = x*(36/25)
    => x = (540*25)/36 = 375 cm
  8. The respective ratio of curved surface area and total surface area of a cylindrical tank is 4 : 5 . If the curved surface area of the tank is 1232 cm^2 . What is the height of the tank in cm ?
    A) 21 cm
    B) 28 cm
    C) 14 cm
    D) 15 cm
    E) 18 cm
    View Answer
    Option B
    Solution:
    Let the radius be r cm and height be h cm.
    Now ,
    2*pi*r(r+h)/2*pi*r*h = 4/5
    => (h+r)/r = 4/5
    => r = h/4
    Therefore, 2*pi*r*h = 1232
    => h^2 = (1232 *7*4)/(2*22)
    => h = √784 = 28 cm
  9. To form a committee from a group of 5 women and 8 men , five persons are to be selected to form a committee so that atleast 4 men are there on the committee. In how many ways it can be done?

    1. In 3.4 kg of cherries, water is 85%, so pulp is 15% = 15% of 3.4 = 0.51 kg
      Let total of x kg dried cherries is to be obtained from 3.4 kg of fresh cherries.
      So in this x kg dried cherries, 85% should be pulp to have 15% water. So
      85% of x = 0.51 kg
      Solve, x = 0.6 kg
