Mixed Quantitative Aptitude Questions Set 76

  1. The sum of the length of two trains A and B is 638 m. The ratio of the speed of A to that of B is 6 : 7. The ratio of the time to cross an electric pole by train A to that by B is 5 : 4. Find the difference the length of the two trains.
    18
    20
    15
    22
    10
    Option D
    Ratio of speeds = 6 : 7
    Ratio of time = 5 : 4 Ratio of length = 6 * 5 : 7 * 4
    = 15 : 14
    Now , 15 + 14 = 29 == 638
    => 1 = 22
    Hence , the length between the two trains = 22

  2. The sum of the present ages of P, Q, R and S is 85 years. After 5 years the ratio of their ages become 2:4:3:6. What is the Q‘s present age?
    23 years
    25 years
    30 years
    35 years
    40 years
    Option A
    Sum of their ages = (2x+4x+3x+6x) – 5*4 = 85
    => 15x – 20 = 85
    => x = 7
    Q’s age = 28 years
    Present age of Q = 23 years

  3. A mixture of milk and water in container 28 litre milk and 12 litre water. X litre milk and water are added to form a new mixture. If 30% of the new mixture is 18 litre , then find the value of x ?
    8
    17
    10
    21
    12
    Option C
    30% == 18 litre
    => 100% = (18/30)*100 = 6 litre
    Now, 28 + x + 12 + x = 60
    => 2x = 20
    => x = 10

  4. The marked price of A is Rs 1100 more than its cost price. When a discount of Rs 400 is allowed a profit of 20% is earned. At what price should A be sold to earn a 25% profit?
    Rs.4250
    Rs.4375
    Rs.3520
    Rs.1522
    Rs.1570
    Option B
    Let CP be x .
    Then, MP = x + 1100
    SP = x + 1100 – 400
    = (x*120)/100
    => x = 3500
    Now, SP = 3500 *(125/100) = Rs. 4375

  5. The tens digit of a three digit number is 2. If the digits at units and hundreds places are interchanged then the number thus formed is 594 more than the previous one. Also the sum of the units digit and hundreds digits is 12. Then what is the number?
    300
    333
    329
    420
    400
    Option C
    Let units digit be x , tens digit be y and hundred digits be z.
    Then, number = 100z + 10y + x
    Given that , y = 2 x + z = 12 ——(1)
    Now, (100x + 10y + z) – (100z + 10y – x)
    = 594 99x – 99z = 594 x – z = 6 ——-(2)
    On solving (1) and (2), we get
    2x = 18
    => x = 9 x = 9, z = 3
    Hence , the required number is = 100* 3 + 10*2 + 9
    = 300 + 20 + 9 = 329

  6. A alone can do a piece of work in 30 days. The time taken by A in completing 1/6 of the work is equal to the time taken by B in completing 1/4 of the work. In what time will A and B together complete the work?
    20 days
    13 days
    18 days
    25 days
    12 days
    Option E
    A can do (1/6) of the work = 30 /6 = 5 days
    work is completed by B in (5*4) = 20 days
    (A+B) together complete the work in (30+20)/(600)
    = 600/50 = 12 days

  7. The average age of the employee in a company is 23.5 years. And the average of the males in the company is 25.2 years and that of the females is 23.2 years. Find the ratio of the number of males to the number of females in the company .
    3:17
    2:11
    1:7
    10:13
    5:19
    Option A
    Male ======= Female
    25.2 ====== 23.2
    =======23.5
    0.3 : 1.7
    3:17

  8. A boat covers 72 km downstream in 6 hours. If the speed of the current is (1/3) of its downstream speed, in what time will it cover a distance of 200 km upstream?
    20 hrs.
    30 hrs.
    60 hrs.
    50 hrs.
    40 hrs.
    Option D
    Downstream speed = 72/6 = 12km
    Speed of the current = 12/3 = 4km/hr.
    Speed of boat = 12-4 = 8km/hr.
    Now, downstream speed = 8 – 4 = 4 km/hr.
    Time = 200/4 = 50 hrs.

  9. The ratio of the cost price to the selling price of an article is 10: 12. If 25% discount is offered on the marked price of the article then the marked price is what percent more than the cost price?
    42%
    60%
    30%
    25%
    55%
    Option B
    Let Cp be 10x and SP be 12x.
    Now, MP = (12x *100)/75 = 16x
    Required % = [(16x – 10x)*100]/10x = 60%

  10. The difference between the interest received by Anil and Ravi is Rs 120. When they invest Rs 2000 each for 3 years what is the difference in the rate of interest?
    2%
    7%
    4%
    9%
    6%
    Option A
    S1 – S2 = (P*R1*T)/100 – (P*R2*T)/100
    =>120 = [(P*T)(R1 – R2)]/100
    => R1 – R2 = 2%

  1. One important thing is that when you find yourself searching for a student loan you may find that you will need a co-signer. There are many cases where this is true because you may find that you do not possess a past credit ranking so the lender will require you have someone cosign the financial loan for you.
