Directions (1-2): C is son of A. E is sister of C. J is grandson of B and nephew of D. G is married to D. B is mother of D. A is father-in-law of F. K is mother of F. J is grandson of K. K has only 1 child

  1. How is A related to G?
    A) Uncle
    B) Mother-in-law
    C) Mother
    D) Father-in-law
    E) Cannot be determined
    View Answer
     Option D
    Solution:
K is mother of F. J is grandson of K. K has only 1 child.
So J is child of F. So grandson of A also as given – A is father-in-law of F.
Given J is grandson of B and B is female. So A and B are married.
    Now
    B is mother of D. G is married to D. so B is mother-in-law of G and thus A father-in-law of G.
  2. If G is mother of H, how is D related to E?
    A) Brother
    B) Cousin
    C) Brother-in-law
    D) Nephew
    E) Cannot be determined
    View Answer
     Option A
    Solution:
G is mother means – female. So D is male, hence brother of E.

Directions (3-4): Point A is 4 m west of point B. Point D is 4 m east of point C. Point D is 2 m north of point E. Point C is 6 m south of point B. Point E is somewhere north of point F which is 5 m north of point H. Point F is 4 m east of point G. Point L is 6 m west of point K. Point K is 6 m north of point J.

  1. What is the direction of point B with respect to point G?
    A) South-west
    B) North
    C) West
    D) North-east
    E) East
    View Answer
     Option B
    Solution:

  2. If a person starts from point H and after covering 3 m straight distance, he reaches point J, then what is the direction of point A with respect to point L?
    A) North-west
    B) North
    C) North-east
    D) A or C
    E) A or B
    View Answer
     Option D
    Solution:
Direction of point J with respect to point H is not given.
    Straight distance HJ = 3 m. So 4 cases
    Case 1: J is 3 m north of H, in this case, A is north-west of L.
    Case 2: J is 3 m south of H, in this case, A is north-west of L.
    Case 3: J is 3 m east of H, in this case, A is north-west of L.
    Case 4: J is 3 m west of H, in this case, A is north-east of L.

Directions (5-6): Each question below contains two rows marked by I and II. The resultant of each row can be found by the rules given below. Answer the question followed by the rows by finding the resultant with the help of following five rules:

1) If an odd number is followed by a perfect square, then divide the larger number by the smaller one.
2) If an even number is followed by a prime number, then subtract the smaller number from the larger one.
3) If an even number is followed by an odd composite, then multiply the numbers.
4) If a prime number is followed by a composite number, then multiply the numbers.
5) If an odd number is followed by an even number, then add the two numbers.

Note: Priority of applying rules will go from top to bottom.

  1. I.    8     9    23
    II.   7     X   12
If X is the resultant of row I, find the resultant of row II.
    A) 12
    B) 15
    C) 19
    D) 16
    E) 13
    View Answer
    Option C
    Explanation:
    For row I –
    From rule 3: 8 * 9 = 72
    From rule 2: 72 – 23 = 49
Resultant of first row = 49
    So X = 49
    For row II –
    From rule 1: 49/7 = 7
    From rule 5: 7 + 12 = 19
Resultant of second row = 19
  2. I.    3     9      15
    II.  6     9     11
Find the addition of the resultant of both rows.
    A) 77
    B) 95
    C) 68
    D) 72
    E) 88
    View Answer
    Option E
    Explanation:
    For row I –
    From rule 1: 9/3 = 3    (Priority to rule 1)
    From rule 4: 3 * 15 = 45
Resultant of first row = 45
    For row II –
    From rule 3: 6 * 9 = 54
    From rule 2: 54 – 11 = 43
Resultant of second row = 43
    Required sum = 45 + 43 = 88

Directions (7-8): Symbols represent time in a clock as:

‘#’ – Either the hour or minute hand of clock on 6
‘$’ – Either the hour or minute hand of clock on 5
‘%’ – Either the hour or minute hand of clock on 9
‘@’ – Either the hour or minute hand of clock on 7
‘+’ – Either the hour or minute hand of clock on 4

Example: Time ‘+%’ represents 4 hours 45 minutes. All the times are in PM.
The first symbol represents hours and second symbol represents minutes.

  1. A person has to catch a train that is scheduled to depart at ‘%$’. It takes the person 2 hours and 35 minutes to reach the railway station from his home. At what time should he leave from his home for the railway station to arrive at the station at least 15 minutes before the departure of the train?
    A) #%
    B) @+
    C) #@
    D) %@
    E) %#
    View Answer
     Option C
    Solution:
Scheduled time of departure of train= %$ = hour hand on 9 and minute hand on 5 so 9:25 PM
    Time for travel+ early arrival= 2 hour 35 minutes + 15 minutes = 2 hour 50 minutes
    9 hours 25 minutes – 2 hours 50 minutes = 6 hours 35 minutes – hour hand on 6 and minutes hand on 7= #@
All other options are later than this time.
  2. A train is scheduled to leave the station at ‘+@’. A person has reached the station 20 minutes before the train’s scheduled time. AT what time the person has reached the station?
    A) #@
    B) +#
    C) %+
    D) +%
    E) None of these
