Mixed Reasoning Questions – Set 20

Miscellaneous Reasoning Questions for NABARD, IBPS RRB, IBPS PO/Clerk, NIACL, NICL, RBI Grade B, BOI, Bank of Baroda and other competitive exams.

Directions (1-4): Each question below contains two rows marked by I and II. The resultant of each row can be found by the rules given below. Answer the question followed by the rows by finding the resultant with the help of following five rules:

1) If an even number is followed by an odd prime number, then multiply the two numbers.
2) If an even number is followed by an even number, then the numbers are needed to be added.
3) If an odd number is followed by a perfect square, then subtract the smaller number from the larger one.
4) If an odd number is followed by an odd prime number, then the numbers are needed to be added.
5) If an even number is followed by a perfect square, then divide the larger number by the smaller one.

  1. I.    10     12     5
    II.    5       9     25
Find the multiplication of the resultant of both rows.
    A) 655.5
    B) 783.5
    C) 687.5
    D) 645.5
    E) 728.5
    View Answer
     Option C
    Solution:
    For row I –
    From rule 2: 10 + 12 = 22
    From rule 1: 22 * 5 = 110
Resultant of second row = 110
    For row II –
    From rule 3: 9 – 5 = 4
    From rule 5: 25/4 = 6.25
Resultant of second row = 6.25
    So required multiplication = 110 * 6.25 = 687.5
  2. I.     9     3     8
    II.   X     3     9
If X is the resultant of first row, find 1/4th of the resultant of second row.
    A) 8/5
    B) 4/3
    C) 7/2
    D) 5/3
    E) 9/5
    View Answer
     Option D
    Solution:
    For row I –
    From rule 4: 9 + 3 = 12
    From rule 2: 12 + 8 = 20
Resultant of second row = 20
    For row II –
    From rule 1: 20 * 3 = 60
    From rule 5: 60/9 = 20/3
Resultant of second row = 20/3
    So required answer = 1/4 * 20/3 = 5/3
  3. I.     7      9      9
    II.  21    25     11
Find the multiplication of the resultant of both rows.
    A) 216
    B) 204
    C) 169
    D) 176
    E) 198
    View Answer
     Option E
    Solution:
    For row I –
    From rule 3: 9 – 7 = 2
    From rule 5: 9/2 = 4.5
Resultant of second row = 4.5
    For row II –
    From rule 3: 25 – 21 = 4
    From rule 1: 4 * 11 = 44
Resultant of second row = 44
    So required multiplication = 4.5 * 44 = 198
  4. I.    8     3     5
    II.   7     7    3
Find the addition of the resultant of both rows.
    A) 162
    B) 167
    C) 158
    D) 153
    E) 174
    View Answer
     Option A
    Solution:
    For row I –
    From rule 1: 8 * 3 = 24
    From rule 1: 24 * 5 = 120
Resultant of second row = 120
    For row II –
    From rule 4: 7 + 7 = 14
    From rule 1: 14 * 3 = 42
Resultant of second row = 42
    So required sum = 120 + 42 = 162

Directions (5-6): There are 6 people – A, B, C, D, E, and F. They all got different ranks in class from 1 to 6. D got 3rd position from above. B’s rank is greater than A’s rank but less than C’s rank. A got less rank than D but not the lowest. D’s rank is greater than E’s rank but less than F’s rank.

  1. Who got 3rd rank from bottom?
    A) C
    B) A
    C) B
    D) Cannot be determined
    E) None of these
    View Answer
     Option C
    Solution:
    Rank wise:
    F/C > D > B > A > E
So B got 3rd rank from bottom.
  2. If C got 45 marks, what is the possible marks of F?
    A) 49
    B) 42
    C) 35
    D) 44
    E) Cannot be determined
    View Answer
     Option E

  3. In a contest, Ruchi got 17th rank from top and 28th from bottom. 7 students did not take part in the contest and other 7 failed in the previous round. There were how many total students?
    A) 56
    B) 59
    C) 58
    D) 55
    E) 57
    View Answer
     Option C
Students who passed the first round = (17+28)-1 = 44
Now 7 failed the first round and 7 did not take part
    So total students = 44+7+7 = 58
  4. In a class of 35 students, Bhavya got 7th rank from bottom and Kavya got 11th rank from top. Geeta got a rank in between these two. What is Bhavya’s position from Geeta?
    A) only I follows
    B) only II follows
    C) either I or II follow
    D) neither I nor II follow
    E) both I and II follow
    View Answer
     Option D
    Bhavya’s rank from top = (35-7)+1 = 29th rank
Kavya got 11th rank from top
So rank in between is =(29+11)/2 = 20th
So Bhavya’s position from Kavya is 9th
  5. If ‘A × B’ means ‘A is the daughter of B’, ‘A + B’ means ‘A is the husband of B’ and ‘A – B’ means ‘A is the sister of B’, then what does ‘E + N – F × M’ mean?
    A) E is the brother-in-law of M
    B) E is the uncle of M
    C) E is the son-in-law of M
    D) M is the mother-in-law of E
    E) None of these

    ‘P $ Q’ means ‘P is the daughter of Q’.
    ‘P % Q’ means ‘P is the mother of Q’.
    ‘P @ Q’ means ‘P is the brother of Q’.
Which of the following expressions denotes that ‘J is the wife of W’?
    A) E $ J % D + K % W
    B) W @ D+ K + E % J
