  1. A man invested 1/6 of his money at 6%, 1/6 of the money at 8% and remaining money at 10% p.a. If his annual income from interest is Rs. 540, what is the total money he had?
    A) Rs 3000
    B) Rs 4000
    C) Rs 6000
    D) Rs 8000
    E) None of these
    View Answer
      Option C
    Solution
    :
    Money invested at 10% = 1 – 1/6 – 1/6  = 2/3
    Effective rate = 1/6 * 6% + 1/6 * 8% + 2/3 * 10%= 54/6%
    54/6% = 540
    =>100% = Rs 6000
  2. In a partnership between A and B, A′s capital is 2/5 of total and is invested for 2/3 years. If his share of the profit is 4/7 of the total, for how long is B′s capital in the business invested?
    A) 1 year
    B) 1/3 year
    C) 1/4 year
    D) 1/2 year
    E) None of these
    View Answer
      Option B
    Solution
    :
    A(capital) = 2/5 => B(capital) = 1- 2/5 = 3/5
    A(Time) = 2/3 ; B(time) = x
    A(capital)*A(time) / B(capital)*B(time) = 4/3
    Solve and get x = 1/3
  3. In a mango groove, (x+2) trees yield 70 mango per tree per year, x trees yield 120 mango per tree per year and (x-2) tree yield 130 mango per tree per year. If the average yield per tree per year is 100, find the value of x.
    A) 4
    B) 6
    C) 8
    D) 2
    E) None of these
    View Answer
      Option B
    Solution
    :
    [(x+2)*70 + 120x + 130(x-2)]/3x  = 100
    x = 6
  4. If (X-2) men can do a work in 30 days, (X+4) men can do the 75% of the work in 15 days. Find the number of days in which (X+1) men will do the work?
    A) 28 days
    B) 24 days
    C) 20 days
    D) 22 days
    E) None of these
    View Answer
      Option B
    Solution
    :
    (X-2) -> 30 days
    (X+4) -> 20 days (100/75*15 days)
    M1D1=M2D2
    (X-2)*30 = (X+4)*20
    So X = 14
    means 12 men  -> 30 days
    hence 15 men in 12/15*30 = 24 days
  5. Two pipes A and B can fill a tank in 10 hours and 15 hours respectively while a third pipe C can empty the full tank in 20 hours. All the three pipes are opened in the beginning. After 5 hours pipe C is closed. In how much time, will the tank be full?
    A) 7.5 hours
    B) 8 hours
    C) 8.5 hours
    D) 9 hours
    E) None of these
    View Answer
      Option A
    Solution
    :
    Part filled in 5 hours = 5*[1/10 +1/15 – 1/20] = 7/12
    remaining part to be filled = 5/12
    part that A and B fill in 1 hour = 1/10 +1/15  = 1/6
    hence remaining time = (5/12)/(1/6) = 5/2 = 2.5 hours
    total time = 5 + 2.5 = 7.5 hours
  6. 10 men can do a work in 18 days and 15 women can do a work in 30 days. If 5 men work for first three days and 10 women work after that for 5 days find the part of the work left after that.
    A) 1/4
    B) 29/36
    C) 25/36
    D) 1/3
    E) None of these
    View Answer
      Option B
    Solution
    :
    5 men -> 36 days ; 10 woman -> 45 days
    work completed = 3/36 + 5/45 = 1/12 + 1/9
    remaining = 1 – (1/12 + 1/9) = 29/36
  7. A can do a work in 10 days while B can destroy the work in 6 days. A has worked for 8 day and during the last 2 days of which B has been destroying the work. How many days will A now take to complete the remaining work alone?
    A) 5 (1/2) days
    B) 6 (1/3) days
    C) 5 (1/3) days
    D) 7 (1/3) days
    E) 6 (1/2) days
    View Answer
      Option C
    Solution
    :
    Total work done in 6 days = 6/10 – 2/6 =7/15
    Remaining work = 8/15
    Time = 8/15*10  = 16/3 = 5 (1/3) days
  8. In an election in which only two candidate A and B took part, 20% of the registered voters did not cast their vote. Out of the people who casted their vote, 10% used NOTA(i.e casted vote but their vote did not go either to A or B). If the number of votes which A got is half of the total number of registered voters and the number of notes which B got is 6400 less than the votes casted excluding NOTA, find the number of NOTA votes?
    A) 1280
    B) 640
    C) 1024
    D) 2816
    E) None of these
    View Answer
      Option C
    Solution
    :
    Let total registered voter = x
    Votes casted  = 80/100x
    Non NOTA votes = 90/100*80/100 *x  = 18x/25
    Vote of A = x/2 —-(i)
    Vote of B = 18x/25 – 6400 —- (ii)
    x/2 + 18x/25 -6400  = 18x/25
    solving we get x = 12800
    Votes casted = 10240 =>10% = NOTA votes =1024
  9. BCCI is creating a new cricket stadium with equal radius of 56 meter all around. The ground has a pitch measuring 22 m and 5 m in length and breadth in the middle. Grass is to planted in the ground everywhere except the pitch at the rate of Rs 5/meter and sand is to be sprayed on the pitch and around 1 meter distance of the pitch after grass has been planted  at the rate of Rs 10/meter. What is the total cost that BCCI will incur in this procedure?
    A) Rs 50,100
    B) Rs 50,410
    C) Rs 48,730
    D) Rs 51,730
    E) Rs 49,830
    View Answer
      Option B
    Solution
    :
    Area of ground = π*r*r=22/7*56*56
    9856 sqmt
    Area of pitch  = 22*5 = 110
    area in which grass is to be planted = 9856 – 110 = 9746 sqmt
    cost of grass = Rs 5*9746 = Rs 48,730
    Area on which sand is to sprayed = 24*7 (+2 on both side of l and b) = 168 sqmt
    Total cost of sand spraying = 10*168 = Rs 1680
    Total cost = Rs 1680 + Rs 48,730 = Rs 50,410
  10. A man bought 100 kg of salt for Rs 250 and was obliged to sell it at a loss of as much money he receives for 25 kg. Find out at what rate did he sell the salt?
    A) Rs 2.2/kg
    B) Rs 1.8/kg
    C) Rs 1.9/kg
    D) Rs 2.0/kg
    E) None of these
    View Answer
      Option D
    Solution
    :
    CP = Rs 250
    Let SP = Rs x/kg
    Total SP = Rs 100x
    Loss = Rs 25x
    Loss = CP-SP
    25x = 250 – 100x
    Solve, x = 2
