Quant Test for IBPS Clerk 2018 Main Exam Set – 2

Directions(1-3): From the following questions choose a correct option.

  1. Quantity I : A shopkeeper bought 24 bulbs and 18 switches for Rs. 504. But later he found that 3 bulbs and 2 switches were defective so he could not sell them. If he sold all the non-defective bulbs and switches at a profit of 20% and 25% resp. Then the total profit earned in the whole transaction is Rs. 34. Find the cost price of 10 bulbs and 7 switches for the shopkeeper.
    Quantity II: A shopkeeper sells an article at a profit of 20% and he offers a total discount of Rs. 30 on the marked price of the article. If the article was marked 35% above the cost price find the cost price.

    Quantity I >= Quantity II
    Quantity I = Quantity II or No relation.
    Quantity I < Quantity II
    Quantity I > Quantity II
    Quantity I =< Quantity II
    Option D
    From I:
    Let the CP of each bulb Rs. x.
    And the CP of each switch be Rs.y.
    24x + 18y = 504 —–(1)
    Total SP of all the non-defective items = 504+34 =Rs. 538
    21*1.2x + 16*1.25y = 538 —-(2)
    solving both the equations, we get x = Rs. 15 and y = Rs. 8
    CP of 10 bulbs and 7 switches = 10*15+8*7 = Rs. 206
    From II:
    Let CP be Rs.x
    MP = Rs. 1.35x 1.35x – 30 = 1.2x
    x = 30/0.15 = Rs. 200
    Quantity I > Quantity II

  2. Quantity I: Find the volume of a sphere , if its radius is 3 cm more than the radius of a hemisphere whose total surface area is 324 cm^2 more than the curved surface area of the cone of height 12 cm and radius 9 cm.
    Quantity II: If the height of the cylinder is 3 cm more than its radius and curved surface area of the cylinder is 1080 cm^2 then find the volume of the cylinder.

    Quantity I =< Quantity II
    Quantity I >= Quantity II
    Quantity I = Quantity II or No relation.
    Quantity I > Quantity II
    Quantity I < Quantity II
    Option D
    From I:
    Slant Height, L = (12^2 + 9^2)^1/2 = 15 cm
    CSA = pi*r*L = 3*9*15 = 405 cm^2
    TSA of the hemisphere = 405+324 = 729 cm^2
    3*pi*r^2 = 729 => r = 9 cm
    Radius of sphere = 9+3 = 12 cm
    Volume of the sphere = 4/3*pi*12^3 = 6912 cm^3
    From II: Radius be x cm and height of the cylinder = (x+3) cm 2*pi*x*(x+3) = 1080
    => 6x(x+3) = 1080
    => x^2 +3x – 180 = 0
    => x = 12 , – 15
    Height = 12+3 = 15
    Volume of the cylinder = pi*12*12*15 = 6480 cm^3
    Quantity I> Quantity II

  3. Quantity I: Sita and Gita are assigned to complete a task. Sita alone takes 30 hours to complete the task and Gita is 50% more efficient than Sita. Both started the work together but after 6 hours Gita left the work and Sita joined by Puja who alone can complete the work in 15 hours. Find out the overall time taken to complete the work.
    Quantity II: If 15 men and 12 women together can complete the whole work in 12 hours, while 10 men and 4 women together can complete the same task in 21 hours, then find the time taken by 15 men and 10 women to complete the same work.

    Quantity I =< Quantity II
    Quantity I >= Quantity II
    Quantity I > Quantity II
    Quantity I = Quantity II or No relation.
    Quantity I < Quantity II
    Option E
    From I: LCM (30,20 and 15) = 60 units
    Number of units of work completed by Sita , Gita and Puja in one hour = 2 , 3 and 4 units resp.
    Let x be the more number of hours were required to complete the work after Gita left
    5*6+6*x = 60
    => x =5
    So, task completed in 11 hours (5+6).
    From II: Total work = (15M+12W)*12 = (10M+4W)*21
    => M = 2W
    Let the required number of days be x.
    (10M+4W)*21 = (15M+10W)*x
    => x = 12.6 hours
    Quantiy II> Quantity I
