6. A car runs at the speed of 40 km/h when not serviced and runs at 65 km/h, when serviced. After servicing the car covers a certain distance in 5 h. How much approximate time will the car take to cover the same distance when not serviced?
12
10
14
8
11
Option D
After servicing speed = 65 km/h
Time = 5 hours
Distance = Speed × Time
= 65 ×5 = 325 km
Before servicing, speed = 40 km/h.
So, time taken = Distance/Speed
= 325/40
= 8 hours (approx. )

7. A boat running upstream takes 8 hours 48 minutes to cover a certain distance, while it takes 4 hours to cover the same distance running downstream. What is the ratio between the speed of the boat and speed of the water current respectively?
8:3
6:5
3:2
7:5
9:7
Option A
Let the rate upstream of the boat = x kmph and the rate downstream of the boat = y kmph
Distance travelled upstream in 8 hrs 48 min = Distance travelled downstream in 4 hrs.
Since distance = speed × time
we have x×8(4/5)=y×4 x×44/5=y×4 x×11/5 = y
Hence, speed of the boat = (y+x)/2
speed of the water =(y−x)/2
Required ratio = (11x/5+x):(11x/5−x)
= 16x:6x = 8:3

8. Vidal borrows Rs. 50,000 from a bank at 5% p.a. simple interest and clears the debt in five years. If the installments paid at the end of the first, second, third and fourth years to clear the debt are Rs. 5,000, Rs. 10,000, Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 20,000 respectively, what amount should be paid at the end of the fifth year to clear the debt?
7000
6250
8500
7500
9000
Option D
Simple interest for 1st yr = pnr/100
= (50000×1×5)/100 = 2500
Amount after 1st instalment = 50000 – 5000 = 45000
Simple interest for 2nd yr = pnr /100 = ( 45000×1×5)/100 = 2250
Amount after 2nd instalment = 45000 – 10000 = 35000
Simple interest for 3rd yr = pnr /100 = (35000×1×5)/ 100 = 1750
Amount after 3rd instalment = 35000 – 15000 = 20000
Simple interest for 4th yr = pnr/100 = (20000×1×5)/ 100 = 1000
Amount after 4th instalment = 20000 – 20000 = 0
Balance of debt for the fifth year
= 2500 + 2250 + 1750 + 1000
= 7500

9. The total marks obtained by a student in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics together is 120 more than the marks obtained by him in Chemistry. What is the average marks obtained by him in Physics and Mathematics together?
80
100
60
90
50
Option C
P + C + M = 120 + C
P + M = 120
Average = 120/2 = 60

10. There are 2 people who are going to take part in race. The probability that the first one will win is 2/7 and that of other winning is 3/5. What is the probability that one of them will win?
11/32
19/35
15/32
18/35
10/31
Option B
Prob. of 1st winning = 2/7
So, not winning = 1 – 2/7 = 5/7
Prob. of 2nd winning = 3/5
So, not winning = 1 – 3/5 = 2/5
Required probability
= 2/7 * 2/5 + 3/5 * 5/7
= 19/35
