  6. 4 men and 10 women were put on a work. They completed 1/3 of the work in 4 days. After this 2 men and 2 women were increased. They completed 2/9 more of the work in 2 days. If the remaining work is to be completed in 3 days, then how many more women must be increased ?
    5
    7
    6
    8
    9
    Option D
    Let one man takes x days to complete the work and one woman takes y days to complete the work independently.
    Then, (4*4)/x + (10*4)/y = 1/3 —-(1)
    (6*2)/x + (12*2)/y = 2/9 —–(2)
    Solving above equations, we get
    x = 108, y = 216
    Let z women be added to complete the work in 3 days.
    Then,
    (6*3)/108 + 3(12+z)/216 = 1 – [(1/3)+(2/9)] => z = 8

  7. A bought 4 bottles of beer and B bought one bottle of lager, lager per bottle costing twice that of the beer. C bought nothing but paid Rs 50, for his share of the drink which they mixed together and shared equally. If C’s Rs 50 covered his share, then what is the cost of the lager ?
    40
    50
    70
    20
    60
    Option B
    Total amount spent by them = Rs. 150
    Let the cost of one beer be x,
    then the cost of one lager will be 2x.
    Total money spent on beer and larger = (4x + 2x)
    =>6x = 150
    => x = 25
    The cost of the larger = 25 × 2
    = 50

  8. Seema’s present age is four times her son’s present age and four-seventh of her father’s present age. The average of the present ages of all three of them is 32 years. What is the difference between the Seema’s son’s present age and Seema’s father’s present age ?
    42 years
    40 years
    45 years
    43 years
    48 years
    Option E
    Let Seema’s son’s present age = x years
    Seema’s present age = 4x years
    Seema’s husband’s present age = 4x × 7/4 = 7x years
    => x + 4x + 7x = 32 × 3
    => 12x = 96
    => x = 8
    Required difference = 7x – x
    = 6x
    = 6 × 8
    = 48 years

  9. X and Y entered into partnership with Rs. 700 and Rs. 600 respectively. After 3 months, X withdrew 2/7 of his stock but after 3 months, he puts back 3/5 of what he had withdrawn. The profit at the end of the year is Rs 726. How much of this should X receive ?
    Rs.380
    Rs.300
    Rs.400
    Rs.366
    Rs.372
    Option D
    X’s investment
    = (700 × 3) + (700 * 5/7 * 3) + (500 * 200 * 3/5) * 6
    = Rs. 7320
    Y’s investment = 600 × 12
    = Rs. 7200
    X’s share from profit = 7320/(7320 + 7200) × 726
    = Rs. 366

  10. Smallest side of a right angled triangle is 8 cm less than the side of a square of perimeter 56 cm. Second largest side of the right angled triangle is 4 cm less than the length of rectangle of area 96 sq. cm. and breadth 8 cm. What is the largest side of the right angled triangle ?
    10 cm
    12 cm
    18 cm
    15 cm
    13 cm
    Option A
    Side of a square = Perimeter/4
    = 56/4
    = 14 cm
    Smallest side of the right angled triangle = 14 – 8 = 6 cm.
    Length of rectangle = Area/Breadth
    = 96/8 = 12 cm
    Second side of the triangle = 12 – 4
    = 8 cm
    Hypotenuse of the right angled triangle
    = 6^2 + 8^2
    = 36 + 64
    = 100
    = 10 cm
