  6. 8 men and 4 women together can complete a piece of work in 6 days. Work done by a man in one day is double the work done by a woman in one day. If 8 men and 4 women started working and after 2 days, 4 men left and 4 new women joined, in how many more days will the work be completed ?
    4 days
    8 days
    6 days
    5 days
    7 days
    Option D
    According to the question, 1 man = 2 women
    8 men + 4 women = (16 + 4) women = 20 women
    4 men + 8 women = 16 women
    20 women’s 2 days’ work =2/6 = 1/3 part
    Remaining work = 1 – (1/3) = (2/3)
    =>20 women complete 1 work in 6 days.
    =>16 women will do (2/3) work in (20*6)/10 *(2/3)
    = 5 days

  7. Ninad, Vikas and Manav enter into a partnership. Ninad invests some amount at the beginning. Vikas invests doublé the amount after 6 months and Manav invests thrice the amount invested by Ninad after 8 months. They eam a proflt of Rs. 45,000 at the end of the year. What is Manav’s share in the profit ?
    Rs. 14000
    Rs. 10000
    Rs. 12000
    Rs. 18000
    Rs. 15000
    Option E
    Let Ninad invest Rs.x
    Vikas’s investment = Rs.2x
    Manav’s investment = Rs. 3x
    Ratio of the equivalent capital of Ninad, Vikas and Manav respectively
    = x ×12 : 2x × 6 : 4 × 3x = 1 : 1 : 1
    Clearly, the proflt will be shared equally Manav’s share
    = Rs. (1/3)*45000
    =Rs. 15000

  8. A contractor employed 25 labourers on a job. He was paid 275 for the work. After retaining 20% of this sum, he distributed the remaining amount amongst the labourers. If the number of men to women labourers was in the ratio 2 : 3 and their wages in the ratio 5 : 4, what wages did a woman labourer get ?
    Rs.6
    Rs. 8
    Rs.10
    Rs.2
    Rs.5
    Option B
    According to the question,
    Number of men = (2/5) × 25 = 10
    Number of women = (3/5) × 25 = 15
    Amount distributed among men and women = 275 × 80% = Rs 220
    Let the wages paid to a man by 5x and to a woman be 4x,
    then 10 × 5x + 15 × 4x = 220
    => 50x + 60x = 220
    => x = 2
    Hence,Wages received by a woman = 2 × 4 = Rs 8

  9. Vishwas borrowed a total amount of Rs. 30,000 part of it on simple interest, rate of 12 p.c.p.a. and remaining on simple interest rate of 10 p.c.p.a. If at the end of 2 years he paid in all Rs. 36,480 to settle the loan amount, what was the amount borrowed at 12 p.c.p.a.?
    17850
    11500
    15400
    12000
    12250
    Option D
    Let the sum borrowed at the rate of 12 p.c.p.a. be Rs. x.
    Sum borrowed at 10 p.c.p.a. = Rs. (30000 – x)
    Simple interest = Rs. (36480 – 30000) = Rs. 6480
    According to the question,
    (x*2*12)/100 + (30000-x)*2*10/100 = 6480
    => 24x + 600000 – 20x = 648000
    => 4x = 648000 – 600000
    => 4x = 48000
    => x = 48000/4 = 12000

  10. There are 8 red balls and 6 yellow balls in a bag. Two balls are simultaneously drawn at random. What is the probability that both the balls are of the same colour?
    43/91
    52/91
    20/91
    33/91
    40/91
    Option A
    Total number of balls = 8+6 =14
    n(S) = 14C2 = 91
    Two balls are of same colour = 8C2 = 28
    n(E) = 6C2 = 15
    Required probability = (28+15)/91 = 43/91
