Quantitative Aptitude: Time, Speed and Distance Set 20

  1. Latha and Vinoth are travelling from the cities A and B, Which are 120 km apart .Latha takes 1 hour more than Vinoth to reach the city B at a particular speed. If Latha doubles her speed the she will take 30 minutes less than Vinoth to reach the city B. Find the speed of Latha travels from the city A to B.

    120
    125
    135
    130
    100
    Option A
    Distance = 1200 km
    Let latha speed= x kmph.
    Let Vinoth speed= y kmph.
    then 120/ x – 120/ y = 1
    Also 120/y – 120/2x = ½
    Adding the above equations we get x= 120 kmph.

  2. Mani started to his office from home at 7.a.m by car. After going a while his car repaired. He tried to restarted for 2 hrs and come back his home by walk at 1.p.m. If the car runs 10kmph and his walking speed is 1 kmph the what is the distance his car has repaired.
    1 1/3
    5 8/9
    4 5/9
    3 7/11
    2 1/7
    Option D
    Time between 7 a.m and 1.pm= 6hrs
    Time taken to walk = 6 – 2= 4 hrs
    Let the distance to be find = x kmph
    =>x/10 + x/1 = 4
    =>x= 40/ 11 = 3 7/11 Km

  3. Three cars start its race in a circular stadium . First car completes round in 180 sec, second in 320 sec and third in 270 seconds. At what time they meet again at the starting point?
    3090
    4050
    3490
    5090
    5509
    Option B
    Required time =LCM ( 180, 320, 270)
    = 4050 sec

  4. Sunil can beat manish by 200m race of 2km when they run at speed of 20m/sec and 16m /sec respectively. If Manish increases his speed by 14m /sec then how much time manish can won Sunil in the race of 2 km?
    95/2
    90/7
    100/3
    120/7
    96/3
    Option C
    = 2000/60 = 100/ 3 sec

  5. A bus leaves from the bus depot at 5.pm at a speed 60km/hr towards bengaluru. After 3 hours another bus also leaves from the depot and follows the same direction of the first bus. In how much time will the second bus be 20km ahead of the first bus if the speed of the second bus is 70 km/hr?
    30
    20
    15
    20
    25
    Option D
    First Bus travels = 3 hours and distance = 3* 60 = 180 km
    Difference of two buses speeds = 70- 60 = 10km
    Distance ahead = 20 km/hr
    So 180+ 20= 200 km
    Required time = 200/10 = 20 hours

  6. 8) A car can cover a distance of 72 km / hr in a uniform speed. Suppose if the car reduced its speed 12kmph it will take one hour more to to reach its destination. Find the initial speed of the car?
    37
    23
    65
    45
    36
    Option E
    Let x be the required speed to be find.
    72/ ( x-12) – 72/ x= 1
    =>x2-12x-864=0
    =>x2- 36x +24x-864=0
    =>( x+24) (x-36) =0
    =>x= 36 km

  7. A cyclist can cross a street of 600 m in 9 sec. Find the speed of the cycle?
    8
    1
    5
    4
    3
    Option D
    Speed= 600 /( 9*60) = 600/ 540 m /sec
    = 600/ 540 * ( 18/5 ) = 4 kmph

  8. If there is a hotels on a national highway which is 36 km apart , then find how many hotels will pass by the buses in 3 hours if the speed of the bus is 60 kmph.?
    2
    3
    5
    6
    4
    Option C
    distance travel by the bus = 60 * 3= 180 km
    Number of hotels= 180/ 36 = 5

  9. In a reservation counter three phones ring at the intervals of 40 sec, 48 sec and 60 sec. If they ring at 10.30 a.m then at what time all the three phones ring
    together?
    10.10
    10.34
    10.40
    10.15
    10.20
    Option B
    Time taken to ring together = LCM( 40, 48, 60) = 240 seconds = 4 min
    If the phones ring together at 10.30 a. m, Then the next ring together after 4 minutes ie) 10.34. a.m.

  10. Vinay want to travel to Delhi from Banglore. it’s 600 kilometre. If he opt for train , it takes twelve hour more than the flight. If the speed of the train is doubled ,it takes ten hours less than the flight. what’s the speed of the flight?
    250
    220
    230
    240
    200
    Option A
    Speed of the train = 600 / 12 = 50 km / hr
    If it speed doubled = 50 x 2 = 100 km/hr
    So 100 / 10 = 10 times increased.
    Then original time 12-10 = 2 hrs
    Therefore speed = 500 / 2 = 250 kmph .
