Reasoning: Puzzles and Arrangements Set 40 (Based on RBI Grade-B 2017)

The following type of Puzzles were asked in RBI Grade B 2017 Exam. Puzzles for SBI PO IBPS PO, RBI Grade B, NICL, BOI, OBC SO, Bank of Baroda and other competitive exams.

Directions (1 – 5): Answer the questions on the basis of the information given below.

8 students – A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H are from different cities – Guwahati, Chennai, Jaipur, Faridabad, Imphal, Bhopal, Bengaluru, and Mumbai, but not necessarily in the same order. They are in different classes – 3, 5, 7 and 10. Two people are in same class, not necessarily in same order.

A and the one from Jaipur are in same class. D is from Faridabad. The one from Bengaluru is in 3rd class. A is not from Imphal and Mumbai. G is not from Mumbai and Jaipur and also is not in same class with F. H is in 10th class. The one from Mumbai and H are in same class. C is neither in 7th nor 10th class. F is from Guwahati and in 3rd class. B is neither from Jaipur nor Mumbai nor Bhopal. The one from Bhopal and E are together.

  1. Who is from Chennai
    A) C
    B) A
    C) F
    D) E
    E) G
    View Answer
     Option B
    Explanation:

From the whole info, direct info we get is::
    D- Faridabad. F= Guwahati=3. H=10
    Bengaluru = 3. Mumbai = 10.
A is not from Jaipur, Faridabad, Guwahati
G is not from Mumbai, Jaipur, Faridabad, Guwahati, Bengaluru.
A, B, D, F and G are not from Jaipur. Next your thinking process starts.
Now because A is not from Mumbai, so A is not 10 and hence H not from Jaipur.
Now A, B, D, F, G, H not from Mumbai.  C not 10th class so not Mumbai. Means E is from Mumbai. So::

Now C is not in 7th or 10th. Cant be in 3rd also. So A and one from Jaipur in 5th.
Now G is not with F. And Bengaluru=3. So B is from Bengaluru and in 3rd class with F. So remaining two D and G in 7th. E with Bhopal. A not Imphal so A = Chennai and G = Imphal. So final::

  2. Which of the following pairs share same class?

Directions (6 – 10): Answer the questions on the basis of the information given below.

8 people – Bhanu, Himanshu, Bhuvan, Sheena, Amit, Nisha, Raina and Sahil lives on different floors of a building (numbered 1 to 8), but not necessarily in the same order. They earn different salaries.

The one who lives on 5th floor earns Rs11,000. There are two floors between the one who earns Rs11,000 and on which Raina lives. Sheena earns Rs2,000 more than Raina. There are 3 floors between the floors of Raina and Bhanu. The one who earns Rs20,000 lives just above Bhanu. Himanshu lives on odd numbered floor but somewhere below the one who earns Rs11,000. Two persons live between Himanshu and the one who earns Rs28,000. Three persons live between Sheena and the one who earns Rs14,000. Sheena lives above the one who earns Rs14,000. Two persons live between Sahil and Bhuvan. One of Sahil or Bhuvan earns Rs14,000. Nisha lives above Sheena but not on top floor. Three persons live between Amit and the one who earns Rs17,000. The total salary of Bhuvan and Amit is Rs39,000. Amit earns more than twice the salary of Sheena. One person earns Rs33,000.

  1. Who lives on 4th floor?
    A) Amit
    B) Sahil
    C) Bhanu
    D) Bhuvan
    E) Sheena
    View Answer
     Option B
    Arrangement:

Now 20,000 immediately above Bhanu so 1st cancels out. Now:

Now 2 between Sahil and Bhuvan and one has salary – 14,000 so second cancels out. Now in first we have two possibilities:

Now Nisha above Sheena and not on top floor. So first cancels out.
    Now Sahil and Bhuvan at 1 or 4-floor. So Amit = 8 floor. Floor4 = 17,000. Bhuvan +Amit = 39000 and Amit’s more than twice Sheena’s so more than 22000. So Bhuvan = 14,000
  2. Who earns Rs 17,000?
    A) Bhuvan
    B) Himanshu
    C) Nisha
    D) Sahil
    E) Sheena
    View Answer
     Option D
  3. How many people live between Nisha and the one who earns Rs33,000?
    A) Five
    B) None
    C) Four
    D) One
    E) Three
    View Answer
     Option E

  4. What is the total salary of Bhuvan and Nisha?
    A) Rs45,000
    B) Rs34,000
    C) Rs36,000
    D) Rs31,000
    E) Rs41,000
    View Answer
     Option D
    14,000 + 20,000 = 34,000RS
  5. Who lives on top floor?
    A) Amit
    B) Bhanu
    C) Bhuvan
    D) Himanshu
    E) Sheena
    View Answer
     Option A
