Reasoning: Puzzles and Arrangements for RRB Prelims Set 50

Directions (1 – 5): Answer the questions on the basis of the information given below.

8 friends – Ginni, Pooja, Kirti, Kavya, Trisha, Sheetal, Seema and Prerna live in a 8-floored building (numbered 1 to 8). They earn different amounts (in Rupees) – 12000, 16000, 23000, 32000, 40000, 53000, 55000 and 69000.

Trisha earns Rs 55,000. She lives on one of the floor above floor 4. Kirti lives on an even numbered floor above Trish. There are 2 floors between the floors of Kirti and the one who earns Rs 40,000. Also there is 1 floor between the one who earns Rs 40,000 and Seema. Seema and Pooja lives on immediate floors such that there are 2 floors between the floors of Trisha and Pooja. There are 2 floors between the floors of Ginni and Sheetal. Sheetal earns Rs 7,000 more than Kavya. Atleast 2 peoples live between Kavya and one who earns Rs 55,000. Ginni earns the amount equal to the difference between the earnings of Trisha and Sheetal. There is one floor between the floors of one who earns Rs 23,000 and Rs 53,000. Kirti earns Rs 12,000.

  1. Who lives on 5th floor?
    A) Kavya
    B) Trisha
    C) Pooja
    D) Sheetal
    E) Seema
    View Answer
      Option B
    Arrangement:

Kirti is above Trisha, so is above 4th floor, so can be on 6th or 8th floor. Next if Kirti on 6th floor, then oy possibility for Trisha – 55,000 is 5th floor. 2 between Kirti and 40000. 2 possibilities here as:
    8 –                                                         8 – Kirti
    7 –                                                         7 –
    6 – Kirti                                               6 –
    5 – Trisha – 55000                            5 –                        40000
    4 –
3 –                40000Now 1 between 40 and Seema. Seema and Pooja lives on immediate floors such that there are 2 floors between the floors of Trisha and Pooja.
So In 1st possibility we have:
    8 –
    7 –
    6 – Kirti
    5 – Trisha – 55000
    4 –
    3 –                40000
    2 – Pooja
    1 –  Seema
In 2nd, if Seema on 6th floor, Trisha cannot be placed above 4th floor because 2 people between Trisha and Pooja. So Seema on 3rd floor. Now if Pooja on 2nd floor, Trisha -55 on 5th floor which is not possible. So Pooja is on 4th. And Trisha 7th:
     8 – Kirti
     7 – Trisha
     6 –
     5 –                        40000
     4 – Pooja
     3 – Seema Now 2 between Ginni and Sheetal. So in 1st Ginni/Sheetal on 4th and 7th and in 2nd- Ginni/Sheetal on 2nd and 5th.
Sheetal earns Rs 7,000 more than Kavya. So Sheetal = 23,000 and Kavya 16,000. Only these values have difference of 7000.
Atleast 2 peoples live between Kavya and one who earns Rs 55,000. So in 1st Kavya on top floor, and in 2nd possibility, Kavya on 1st floor. Remaining floor for Prerna. Ginni earns the amount equal to the difference between the earnings of Trisha and Sheetal. So Ginni = 55-23 = 32000. But in 2nd arrangement Ginni/Sheetal who is of 5th floor earns 40000, so 2nd becomes false. Proceed with 1st.
    Final::

  2. Seema earns how much amount?
    A) Rs 69,000
    B) Rs 32,000
    C) Rs 40,000
    D) Rs 53,000
