Reasoning: Puzzles and Arrangements Set 83

Directions (1-3): Read the following information carefully to answer the questions that follow.

Ten fruits are distributed among four persons Parul, Queen, Rashi, Simran such that one of them gets one fruit, another gets two fruits, the third gets three fruits and the fourth gets four fruits. It is known that Queen gets more fruits than Parul and Simran gets fewer fruits than Rashi.

  1. If the number of fruits distributed to Queen is twice the number distributed to Parul then which one of the following is necessarily true?
Rashi gets an even number of fruits
Rashi gets an odd number of fruits
Simran gets an even number of fruits
Simran gets an odd number of fruits
    None of these
    Option D
    Explanation:
    We know that either Queen or Rashi have to be given 4 fruits and either Parul or Simran to be given 1 fruit.Also we need to know that Queen>Parul and Rashi>Simran. CASE1: Queen=4, Parul= 2 , Rashi= 3 , Simran =1 CASE2: Queen=2, Parul= 1 , Rashi= 4 , Simran =3

  2. If Rashi gets atleast two more fruits than Simran, then which one of the following is necessarily true?
Queen gets atleast two more fruits than Simran
Queen gets more fruits than Parul
Parul gets more fruits than Simran
Parul and Queen together get atleast five fruits
    None of these
    Option B
    Explanation:
    CASE1: Rashi=4 , Simran = 1, Queen= 3, Parul = 2 CASE2: Rashi=4 , Simran = 2, Queen= 3, Parul = 1 CASE3: Rashi=3 , Simran = 1, Queen= 4 , Parul = 2 In each,Queen>Parul.

  3. If Queen gets fewer fruits than Rashi, then which of the following is not necessarily true?
Parul and Queen together get atleast four fruits
Queen and Simran get atleast four fruits
Parul and Simran get atleast five fruits
Parul and Rashi together get atleast five fruits.
    None of these
    Option A
    Explanation:
    CASE1: Rashi= 4, Queen = 3,then A) Simran = 2, Parul = 1 B)Simran = 1, Parul = 2 CASE2: Rashi = 4, Queen = 2 then Simran = 3 ,Parul = 1 So, option b , c, d are necessarily true.Only option a is not.

Directions (4-6): Read the following information carefully to answer the questions that follow.

A group of three or four has to be selected from seven people.Among the seven are two girls, Fauzia and Kavya, and five boys: Rahul , Sid, Dinesh, Pranjal , Rakesh . Rahul would not like to be in the group if Sid is also selected. Sid and Rakesh want to be selected together in group. Kavya would like to be in the group only if Dinesh is also there. Dinesh, if selected, would not like Pranjal in the group. Rahul would like to be in the group only if Pranjal is also there. Dinesh insists that Fauzia be selected in case he is there in the group.

  1. Which of the following statements is true?
Kavya and Rahul can be part of a group of four
A group of four can have two girls
A group of four can have all four boys
    All are correct
    None of these is true
    Option E
    Explanation:
Option A cannot be correct since if Kavya and Rahul are selected,Dinesh and Pranjal must also be selcted and Dinesh wants Fauzia as a part of group. So we can’t create a group of 4.
Option B is not correct since if Fauzia and Kavya are selected, then Dinesh has to be part of group. The 4th person has to be selcted from amongst the four boys left. However,Rahul, Sid and Rakesh have to be selected with atleast one more of 4 boys. Also since Dinesh is selcted, Pranjal cannot be.
Option C is not correct since Dinesh wants Fauzia so he cannot be selected amongst a selection of 4 boys. This means that we must take all the other 4,but Rahul does not want to be in a group with Sid.

  2. Which of the following is a feasible group of four?
    Rahul,Pranjal,Fauzia,Rakesh
    Sid,Rakesh,Kavya,Dinesh
    Sid,Rakesh,Fauzia,Dinesh
    Fauzia,Dinesh, Rahul, Pranjal
    None of these
    Option C

  3. Which of the following is a feasible group of three?
    Dinesh,Rahul,Rakesh
    Pranjal, Sid, Rakesh
    Kavya, Dinesh, Sid
    Fauzia, Dinesh, Rahul
    None of these
    Option B
    Explanation:
Option A is false as it selects Dinesh without Fauzia. Option C is false for same reason. Option D is false as it selects Rahul without Pranjal.
