Mixed Reasoning Questions for Prelims Exams – Set 9

Reasoning Questions asked in prelims Exams – SBI, IBPS, RBI, NIACL, NICL, BoB, And other exams.

Directions (1-2): Point A is 7 m north of point B. Point F is 7 m north of point E. Point E is 3 m east of point D. Point G is 17 m south of point H. Point C is 8 m east of point B. Point D is 5 m south of point C. Point F is 6 m west of point G. Point H is 8 m east of point I.

  1. Find distance IA.
    A) 17 m
    B) 10 m
    C) 12 m
    D) 15 m
    E) Cannot be determined
    View Answer
     Option D
    Solution:

    Vertical distance = HG – [AB – (FE – CD)] = 17 – [7 – (7-5)] = 12 m

    Horizontal distance = BC + [DE – (IH – FG)] = 8 + [3 – (8 – 6)] = 9
    So IA = √(122 + 92) = 15 m
  2. A person starts from Point C in south direction. After walking for 8 m he took 2 turns to reach point G. Find the total distance covered by him.
    A) 24 m
    B) 25 m
    C) 27 m
    D) 26 m
    E) 28 m
    View Answer
    Option C
He took 2 turns to reach to point G, so after 8 m south he took a left then, walked (3+6) = 9 m and then turned left again to reach point G (here he covered (3+7) = 10 m)
    So total distance = 8 + 9 + 10 = 27 m

Directions (3-4): P is brother of D whose son is F. J is brother of A whose daughter is B. R is father of P. P is father of G who is brother of B. M is married to R.

  1. How is M related to B?
    A) Grand Father
    B) Maternal Grand Father
    C) Maternal Grand Mother
    D) Grand Mother
    E) Cannot be determined
    View Answer
    Option D
  2. If M has one son and one daughter and E is married to D. Then how is E related to P?
    A) Sister-in-law
    B) Brother
    C) Brother-in-law
    D) Sister
    E) Cannot be determined
    View Answer
    Option C
    Solution:
P is brother of D. So D is female (since M has 1 daughter and one son). So if E is married to D, he is brother-in-law of P.

Directions (5-6): Six friends – A, B, C, D, E and F have all different heights. D is taller than C. C is taller than only 2 friends. B is shorter than A but not the shortest. F is taller than D and A both. E is shorter than C. Height of A is 157 cm. The one who is shortest is 145 cm.

  1. If height of E is less than 150 cm, find the total height of E and A.
    A) 287 cm
    B) 316 cm
    C) 308 cm
    D) 302 cm
    E) 296 cm
    View Answer
    Option D
    Solution:
    The order is – F, D/A, A/D, C, B, E (in descending order of height)
There are 2 people shorter than C. B is shorter than A and E is shorter than C, So B and E both are shorter than C. Since B is not the shortest, so E is the shortest. E = 145 cm, A = 157 cm
  2. If A is taller than D, then how many friends are taller than D?
    A) None
    B) 1
    C) 2
    D) 3
    E) Cannot be determined
    View Answer
    Option C
    Solution:
    F and A
  3. How many pairs of letters are there in the word RYTHMICAL, each of which have as many letters between then in the word as they have between then in the English alphabet?
    A) None
    B) One
    C) Two
    D) Three
    E) More than three
    View Answer
     Option C
    Forward – RT, IL
  4. If the letters of the word MAHARASHTRA are changed such that the first letter is written as previous letter in alphabet, second as the next letter in alphabet, third again as previous letter and so on, then how many words make a pair in the newly formed word?
    A) None
    B) One
    C) Two
    D) Three
    E) More than three
    View Answer
     Option B
    Solution:
    MAHARASHTRA changes to
    LBGBQBRISSZ
There are 2 S’s so makes a pair

Direction (9-10): Relationship between different elements is shown in the statements. Find if the conclusions also follow or not.

  1. A > B ≥ C = D < E; F > G = H ≥ E
    Conclusions:
    I. G > B
    II. B ≥ G
    A) only I follows
    B) only II follows
    C) either I or II follows
    D) neither I nor II follow
    E) both I and II follow
    View Answer
    Option C
    Solution:

    G ≥ E > C ≤ B
    So no relationship between G and B. So either G > B or G ≤ B. Also either G < B or G ≥ B

  2. A > B ≥ C = D; G = H ≥ J; G = E ≤ D > F
    Conclusions:
    I. J < B
    II. J = B
    A) only I follows
    B) only II follows
    C) either I or II follows
    D) neither I nor II follow
    E) both I and II follow
    View Answer
    Option C
    Solution:

    J ≤ G ≤ D ≤ B so J ≤ B, so either J < B or J = B
