Every year State Bank of India conducts examination for the post of a probation officer. The exam has 3 stages. The preliminary exam consists of 3sections which include Quantitative Aptitude, English Language and reasoning. To clear the preliminary stage, the candidate has to clear the section wise cut offs as well as the overall cut-off decided by the bank.
Quantitative aptitude and reasoning sections consist of 35 questions each whereas the English section has 30 questions. So a candidate has 60 minutes to solve 100 questions.
After qualifying the first stage, the candidate has to appear for the SBI PO mains exam.
The mains exam has four sections namely Reasoning & Computer Aptitude, Data Analysis & Interpretation, General/Economy/Banking Awareness and English Language.

After one qualifies the mains exam, one has to appear for interviews. The final results are declared on the basis of combined scores of mains and interview.
Life insurance corporation conducts examination for selecting candidates for the post of the assistant administrative officer. The exam has two stages one written round and after qualifying the written exam, one has to appear for the interview.
LIC AAO written exam has 4 sections totalling 160 questions carrying 300 marks. The four sections consist Reasoning, Quant, general awareness, computer knowledge and English language.
One thing to note here is the English Language section is just qualifying one. The scored marks in English is not counted for merit.

An AAO in LIC get promoted as Administrative Officer (AO), after a few years in the job. You could get transferred to some other department based on her performance/inclination. There you can become Assistant Branch Manager (ABM) and then Branch Manager (BM).
Timeline for promotions depends upon factors such as performance, vacancy, etc. However, generally, it is around 5 years between two promotions.
