Mixed Quantitative Aptitude Questions Set 14

  1. Chintu obtained 87.4% in his CBSE board exam having 5 subjects all of equal maximum marks. Chinki obtained 13 marks more than the total marks obtained by Chintu in her state board exams which comprises of 5 subjects but the maximum marks in the state board exam is 20% more than the maximum marks in CBSE board exam. If Chinki gets 75%, find the maximum marks of each subject in the state board exam.
    A) 100
    B) 120
    C) 150
    D) 200
    E) None of these
    View Answer
      Option B
    Solution
    :
    Let maximum marks in CBSE = 100x
    MM of state board = 120x
    Total marks of Chintu = 5 * 87.4 * 100x/100  = 437x
    Total marks of Chinki  = 5 * 75 * 120x/100 = 450x
    Given 450x-437x = 13
    => x = 1
    Hence MM of state board exam = 120
  2. Amit who has to travel from point A to Point B divides his journey into two parts. In the first part he travels from point A to Point C which is at the midpoint between A and B at a speed of 40 kmph. Then he doubles his speed from C to reach point B. After reaching point B, he returns back to point A at an average speed of 40 kmph in 2 hours. The time taken to reach Point B from A is how much less/more than the time taken to reach point A from point B?
    A) 30 minutes less
    B) 30 minutes more
    C) 60 minutes less
    D) 60 minutes more
    E) None of these
    View Answer
      Option A
    Solution
    :
    Total distance between AB =40 *2 = 80 km
    Speed from A to C (1st part) = 40kmph ; Distance = 40 km (midpoint)
    Time = D/S = 1 hour
    Time from C to B = ½ hour (since speed is double). Hence total time from A to B = 1+ 1/2  = 90 minutes.
    Time From B to A = 2 hours = 120 minutes
    Hence difference = 30 minutes.
  3. If a box containing 15 mirrors is dropped, which of the following cannot be the ratio of broken mirrors to unbroken mirrors?
    A) 2:3
    B) 1:2
    C) 1:1
    D) 3:2
    E) None of these
    View Answer
      Option C
    Solution
    :
    There are 15 mirrors. So the sum of ratio must divide 15 exactly. SO c) is invalid
  4. A man can row at a speed of 16 kmph in still water to a certain point and back to the starting point in a river which flows at 8 kmph. Find the average speed of total journey.
    A) 10 kmph
    B) 12 kmph
    C) 14.5 kmph
    D) 14 kmph
    E) None of these
    View Answer
      Option B
    Solution
    :
    Average Speed= (U*D)/x
    x = 16 ; y = 8
    D = x+y = 24 ; U = x-y = 8
    Average Speed=24 * 8/16 = 12kmph
  5. A new stadium circular in shape has been constructed and has a circumference of 528 meters. The total cost involved in fencing the boundary of the ground at a certain rate and laying grass in the field at a rate of Rs 2/sqmt is Rs 49632. What will be the total cost involved in fencing the boundary and laying grass at the same rate as above in an another newly constructed circular stadium whose radius is 7 meter more than the above stadium?
    A) Rs 50,180
    B) Rs 53,756
    C) Rs 56,982
    D) Rs 57,772
    E) None of these
    View Answer
      Option D
    Solution
    :
    Ground 1: Circumference = 528 m => r = 84 m =>area = 22176 sqmt.
    Let rate of fencing = Rs x/meter
    total cost = 528*x + 22176*2 = 49632
    => x = Rs 10/meter
    Ground 2: r = 84+7 = 91 m
    Circumference = 572 m ; Area = 26026 sqmt
    Total cost = 572*10 + 26026*2 = Rs 57,772
  6. A dishonest dealer marks up his goods by 25% and gives a discount of 10%. He also uses a weight of 950 grams instead of 1 kg. Find is actual profit percentage.
    A) 15.52%
    B) 16.66%
    C) 18.42%
    D) 20.21%
    E) None of these
    View Answer
      Option C
    Solution
    :
    Let CP of 1 gram good = Re. 1
    CP of 1 kg = Rs 1000 (only for customers)
    But actual weight of this 1 kg = 950 grams
    So, Actual CP of this false 1 kg good= Rs 950
    MP of this 1 kg = 1000*125/100 (because for customer visible cp = Rs 1000)
    = Rs 1250
    SP after 10% discount = 1250 * 90/100 = Rs 1125
    Hence %P= (1125-950)/950 * 100 = 18.42%
  7. The age of a man is two times the sum of ages of his two sons. Five years hence his age will be 7/5 times the sum of his sons’ age then. Find the present age of father.
    A) 25 years
    B) 30 years
    C) 35 years
    D) 40 years
    E) None of these
    View Answer
      Option B
    Solution
    :
    Let sum of sons age = x
    Fathers age = 2x
    after 5 years sum of age of sons = x+5+5 = x+10
    after 5 years age of father = 2x+5
    As per question
    2x+5 = 7/5 * (x+10)
    solve and get x = 15
    hence father = 30 years
  8. Mr. Verma who has an annual salary of Rs 3,60,000 invests his one months salary in an investment scheme with a maturity period of 1 year which pays an interest rate of 5% till Rs 20,000 and 10% on any amount above Rs 20,000. Find the total amount that Mr. Verma will receive after 1 year.
    A) Rs 31,500
    B) Rs 33,000
    C) Rs 32,000
    D) Rs 32,500
    E) None of these
    View Answer
      Option C
    Solution
    :
    Amount invested = 3,60,000/12  = Rs 30,000
    Amount = 105/100 * 20000  + 110/100 * 10000 = Rs 32,000
  9. Suresh completed 3/4 of the work in 18 days by working at half his actual efficiency. Vinita the wife of Suresh would have taken takes 6 more days to complete the same piece of work than what Suresh takes when he works at his actual efficiency. What is the ratio of actual efficiency of Suresh and Vinita?
    A) 5:3
    B) 4:3
    C) 3:2
    D) 5:2
    E) None of these
    View Answer
      Option C
    Solution
    :
    Suresh completes 3/4 work in 18 days.
    He would complete full work in 18 * 4/3 =24 days
    When working at his actual efficiency he woyld complete the work in 12 days (as he is now working at half efficiency)
    So time taken by Vinita = 12+6 = 18 days
    Hence ratio of efficiency of Suresh : Vinita=18 : 12 = 3 : 2
  10. A bag contains 10 pink balls and some violet balls. If the probability of drawing a violet ball is 3/2 times of the probability of drawing a pink ball, find the number of violet ball in the bag.
    A) 10
    B) 15
    C) 20
    D) 24
    E) None of these
    View Answer
      Option B
    Solution
    :
    Let number of violet ball = v
    total ball = 10+v
    P(Pink) = 10/(10+v)
    P(Violet) = v/(10+v)
    Solve, P(Violet) = 3/2 * P(Pink)
    Get v = 15

  2. Another thing I have noticed is that for many people, below-average credit is the result of circumstances outside of their control. For example they may be really saddled with an illness so they really have large bills for collections. It could be due to a work loss or even the inability to do the job. Sometimes divorce process can really send the finances in a downward direction. Many thanks for sharing your opinions on this weblog.
