Reasoning: Puzzles and Arrangements Set 49

Directions (1 – 5): Answer the questions on the basis of the information given below.

Ten friends – A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I and J had IBPS Preliminary Exam which was scheduled from Monday to Sunday of a same week. In between there was one holiday on which exam was not scheduled. After the result, each got different marks – 39, 43, 45, 47, 50, 51, 56, 57, 62, and 69. On each day (other than holiday) at least 1 student had exam and at most 2 students had exam.

A got 39 marks. A’s exam was scheduled on either Thursday or Friday. There was 1 day between A and D’s exam. D’s exam was after A’s. There was 1 day between D’s exam and the one who got 57 marks. The one who got 69 marks had exam on Saturday. B got 12 marks more than the one who had exam on same day as B. Only one friend had exam on Tuesday. J’s exam was just before the one who got 43 marks. J’s exam was not on Saturday. There were 2 days between the exams of A and I. Also there were 3 days between the exams of B and J. I had exam alone. C’s exam was scheduled just after the day on which there was a holiday. There was 1 day between the exam of C and one who got 43 marks, C’s exam was before him. The one who had exam on Sunday got marks which is a multiple of 3, there is difference of 5 marks between him and one of the students who had exam on Tuesday. H got 45 marks. H and C’s exam was not on same day. E’s exam was scheduled just after F’s.

  1. On which of the following pair of days single student had exam?
    A) Monday, Thursday
    B) Wednesday, Friday
    C) Tuesday, Wednesday
    D) Tuesday, Sunday
    E) Friday, Sunday
    View Answer
      Option D
    Arrangement:

Remember that in between Monday and Sunday there is a holiday, so holiday cannot be on Monday or Sunday. In all the 3 possibilities, holiday can only be on Wednesday. Only one exam on Tuesday, so no possibility contains holiday on Tuesday.
1st: A got 39 marks. A’s exam was scheduled on either Thursday or Friday. There was 1 day between A and D’s exam. D’s exam was after A’s. There were 2 days between the exams of A and I.2. Gives 3 possibilities. I hope u got 3 from here.3. There was 1 day between D’s exam and the one who got 57 marks. Gives 57 on same day as A. The one who got 69 marks had exam on Saturday.

    4. J’s exam was just before the one who got 43 marks. J’s exam was not on Saturday. Also there were 3 days between the exams of B and J.
In all 3 possibilities J on Friday, 43-Sat and B – Monday. Because B and one on same have difference of 12 marks. If B on Sat 69-12 = 57 but 57 on Friday. 69+12=81. There is no 81 marks student. So only possibility J on Friday, 43-Sat and B – Monday

Now 1 possibility in which I and B on Monday gets cancelled because I has exam alone.

    5. C’s exam was scheduled just after the day on which there was a holiday. There was 1 day between the exam of C and one who got 43 marks, C’s exam was before him.
    Gives
    holiday
    C

    43

Here Monday not a holiday. One exam on Tuesday so holiday not on Tuesday. Holiday on Wednesday. Thursday-C, Saturday – 43

    6. For B possibility is 62, and one on same day = 50.

    7. The one who had exam on Sunday got marks which is a multiple of 3, there is difference of 5 marks between him and one of the students who had exam on Tuesday.
    8. Sunday = multiple of 3 , so either 45 or 51,but if 45, 39 cannot be on Tuesday. So Sunday = 51. Tuesday = 56
H got 45 marks. H cannot be on Tuesday — Only one friend had exam on Tuesday.
At last — Saturday have – 43 and 69 marks, so cant be placed there. Cannot be placed with I, because I had exam alone. Only place on Friday left

  2. If G got less marks than E, how many marks did D got?
    A) 62
    B) 69
    C) 51
    D) 43
    E) Cannot be determined

They like different colors – green, blue, orange, red, purple, yellow, white, and black but not necessarily in the same order.

A’s birthday is in a month having 30 days but before September. There are 2 days between A’s birthday and one who likes black color. A does not like yellow color. The one who likes yellow color is not born in a month having 31 days. C does not like blue, red or purple color. C has birthday in a month having 31 days somewhere after A’s. A) C

    B) Q
    C) B

    View Answer
      Option C
    Arrangement:
First there will be 3 possibilities
    For C:
C does not like blue, red or purple color. Green also not because that of S. C in 31 days so yellow and orange cancel. In 1 possibility black in Jan so cannot be for C, In 1 Black in September (30 days) so cannot be for C. In 3rd possibility black in October, if you place C in October, then S and B will not fit in the arrangement. So black not for C. Finally C likes white.
Similarly D does not like red, white or black color. . Green also not because that of S. Next D’s bday in 31 days, yellow, blue, orange in 30 days So D likes purple. Next Orange in 30 days, 1 between orange and purple.

Shubhu dear… As per prelims ND mains… Prelims is abt practise ND mains mein Kia approach rkhni chair..

        1. for mains also you will have to practice. Main part here is your approach on the day of Mains Exam. Questions will be unexpected, pattern can be unexpected, type of questions can be unexpected.
DIs remain easy, they will be based on basic concepts of chapters – Its all how you approach at the time of mains exam
Go through memory based paper of SBI PO, u will see that questions are not difficult – they are basic, Yes some contains more calculation

Its all how you approach at that time after doing this so much practice. Learn to leave questions, learn to choose questions for yourself, have accuracy.
