  1. A merchant borrowed Rs. 3000 from two money lenders. For one loan he paid 10% p.a. and for the other 15% p.a. The total interest paid for one year was Rs.350. How much did he borrow at each rate?
    A) 8000,1100
    B) 9000,1000
    C) 2000,1000
    D) 5000,7000
    E) None of these
    View Answer
      Option C
    Solution:
    [350/3000]*100 = (35/3)%
    10%——————15%
    ——–(35/3)%
    (10/3)%————(5/3)%
    Ratio of borrowed amount = 2:1
    Amount given on 10% interest = (3000/3)*2 = 2000
    Amount given on 15% interest = 1000
  2. A solid form of a right circular cylinder with hemispherical ends. The total length of the solid is 35 cm. The diameter of the cylinder is (1/4)th of its height. Find the surface area of the solid .
    A) 680 sq. cm
    B) 800 sq. cm
    C) 770 sq. cm
    D) 720 sq. cm
    E) None of these
    View Answer
      Option C
    Solution:
    Let the radius of the cylinder be r cm and height be h cm
    Then, r = (h/8)
    and h =35 – 2r = 35 – 2(h/8)
    => h + (h/8) = 35
    => h = 28cm
    and r = (7/2) cm
    Radius of the hemisphere = (7/2)cm
    Total surface area of the solid = 2*pi*r(h + 2r) = 770 cm^2
  3. The ratio of the amount for 2 years under CI annually  and for 1 year under SI is 6:5.  When the ratio of the interest is same, then find the value of the rate of interest ?
    A) 25%
    B) 30%
    C) 15%
    D) 20%
    E) 32%
    View Answer
      Option D
    Solution:
    [P(1+(r/100))^2]/ [P(1+(r/100))] = 6/5
    =>[1 + (r/100)] = 6/5
    =>r = 20%
  4. 24 men can complete a piece of work in 14 days. 2 days after they started working. 4 more men joined them and after 2 more days 6 men left. How many more days will they now take to complete the remaining work?
    A) 11(5/9)
    B) 10(6/11)
    C) 9(2/7)
    D) 13(9/11)
    E) 15(11/12)
    View Answer
      Option B
    Solution:
    MD = M1D1 + M2D2 + M3D3
    => 24*14 = 24*2 + 28*2 + 22*D3
    => D3 =232/22 =116/11 = 10(6/11) days
  5. The respective ratio between the monthly salaries of A and B is 5:3. Out of  A’s monthly salary A gives (1/6)th as  rent, (1/5)th to C, 30% as  education and 25% for miscellaneous expenditure. Remaining Rs. 5000 A keeps as savings. What is B’s monthly salary?
    A) Rs.22000
    B) Rs.28000
    C) Rs.55000
    D) Rs.36000
    E) Rs.50000
    View Answer
      Option D
    Solution:
    Expenses by A  = (1/6)+(1/5)+(30/100)+(25/100)
    =(1/6) + (1/5) + (3/10) + (1/4)
    =(10+12+18+15)/60 = 55/60 = (11/12) parts
    Remaining part = 1 – (11/12) = (1/12)
    Now ,
    A’s monthly salary = 12*5000 = Rs.60000
    B’s monthly salary = (3/5)*60000 = 36000
  6. The labelled price of a camera is Rs. 6500. The shopkeeper sold it by giving 5% discount  on the labeled price and earned a profit of 15%. What approximately is the cost price of the camera?
    A) Rs.4880
    B) Rs.5500
    C) Rs.5370
    D) Rs. 4800
    E) None of these
    View Answer
      Option C
    Solution:
    Selling Price = 6500 – (6500 * 5)/100 = Rs.6175
    Therefore, Cost Price = (6175*100)/115= Rs.5369.56
    = Rs.5370 (approx.)
  7. There are three positive numbers, (1/3)rd of average of all the three numbers is 8 less than the value of the highest number. Average of the lowest and the average of the second lowest is 8, which is the highest number?
    A) 11
    B) 25
    C) 14
    D) 18
    E) 21
    View Answer
      Option A
    Solution:
    Let the numbers be x<y<z
    Now,
    (x+y+z)/(3*3) = z – 8
    => x + y + z= 9z – 72 ——-(1)
    Again,
    x + y = 16
    16 + z = 9z – 72
    => z = 11
  8. In the month of January , 2016 Pooja paid EMI which was 30% of her monthly salary. The remaining salary she spent on shopping of food items and dresses in the respective ratio of 4:3. She spent Rs.15000 on shopping of dresses. If in February 2016, her salary increased by 12%, what was her salary in February?
    A) Rs.60000
    B) Rs.56000
    C) Rs.48890
    D)Rs.55450
    E) Rs.57800
    View Answer
      Option B
    Solution:
    Let the Pooja’s monthly salary be Rs. x
    Amount given to EMI = Rs.(3x/10)
    Remaining amount = Rs.(7x/10)
    Expense on dresses = (3/7)*(7x/10) = (3x/10)
    Therefore ,
    (3x/10) = 15000
    => x = Rs.50000
    Pooja’s salary in February 2016 = 50000*(112/100) = Rs.56000
  9. A bag contains 4 blue shirts , 5 red shirts and 6 yellow shirts .Two shirts are drawn randomly. What is the probability that both of them are blue?

    C) 2/35
    D) 3/32
    E) 8/33
    View Answer
      Option C
    Solution:
    Total outcomes = 15C2 = 105
    Favourable outcomes = 4C2 = 6
    Required Probability = 6/105 = (2/35)

    D) 46
    E) None of these
    View Answer
      Option D
    Solution:
    A man invites his friends = 5C1 + 5C2 + 5C3 + 5C4 + 5C5
    = 2^5 – 1  = 31 ways
    His wife invites his friends = 4C1 + 4C2 + 4C3 + 4C4 = 2^4 – 1 \
    = 15 ways
    Total no. of ways = 31 + 15 = 46

    Please explain3 question

    1. Banya

      see in the question , 6:5 is the ratio of the amount , first ratio for compounded annually and second for simple interest , now apply formula A = P(1 +(R/100))^2 amount for 2 years compounded annually and
      A = (P + RRT/100 ) = P (1 + R/100) [since T= 1 year ]
      Now , solve P(1+(R/100))^2/ P(1+R/100) = 6/5
      Rate = 20%
      Hope u will get it, if not then message back.
