Bharat Parv 2020 celebrated from 26th to 31st January
To celebrate the spirit of India, the annual event Bharat Parv organised in Delhi this year too.The  objective of  Bharat Parv  is  to  encourage  Indians  to visit  different  tourism  places  of  India and to inculcate  the spirit  of  ‘Dekho  Apna  Desh’.

  • The  Central theme  of  this  year’s  Bharat  Parv  is   ‘Ek  Bharat  Shreshtha  Bharat’ and  ‘Celebrating  150 Years of  Mahatma Gandhi’.

Ministry of Tourism to fund the travel expenses of the tourist who visit 15 destinations of our country in 1 year
Bringing cheer to travel enthusiasts, the government has decided to reward people visiting 15 tourist spots in a year by funding their expenses.

Rajya Sabha panel submits report on child porn
The 14-member committee, including 7 women members of Rajya Sabha, was set up by Venkaiah Naidu on December 12 last year has made 40 recommendations to prevent sexual abuse of children and contain access to and transmission of child pornography on social media.

  • Among the recommendations are adoption of a broader definition of child pornography, controlling children’s access to such content, containing generation and dissemination of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) and making Internet Service Providers and online platforms accountable. It has also recommended amendments to Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 and Information Technology Act, 2000.

India’s first underwater metro, ‘Kolkata metro’ to be opened by March 2022
The East-West project of Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation is expected to be completed by March 2022 after several years and doubled costs. India’s first underwater metro will partially run under the Hooghly river.

Brazilian President Bolsonaro visited India
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro arrived in New Delhi with an aim to further expand the already close strategic partnership with India. Bolsonaro was the chief guest at India’s 71st Republic Day Parade on January 26, besides holding talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind.

  • It will be the third time that a Brazilian President will be the chief guest at the Republic Day.

WHO has declared the global risk of Noval Coronavirus (2019-nCoV)
Amid the rising spread of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV), the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the virus outbreak a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC).

SIPRI report:China is the world’s 2nd-biggest weapons producer
China is the world’s second-largest arms producer, behind the US, a Swedish research institute announced in a report/

  • New research from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) shows that four Chinese arms groups generate sufficient sales to be ranked among the world’s top 20 weapons sellers. The four groups have combined sales worth $54.1 billion (€49.1 billion) in 2017.

13th edition of International Children’s Film Festival inaugurated at Dhaka, Bangladesh
The 13th edition of the International Children’s Film Festival of Bangladesh was inaugurated in Dhaka.

  • The festival is one of the biggest film events in Bangladesh. It is the only international film festival for children and young adults of the country. It will feature 173 films from 39 countries including Bangladesh, India, France, Korea, Spain and others. The week-long festival will conclude on 31st of January.

NABARD predicts Rs 90,395cr credit potential for Odisha in FY21
National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), in its State Focus Paper for Odisha, has estimated Odisha’s credit potential at Rs 90,395.69 crore for Financial year FY- 2020-21 with a hike of around 20% over credit projection of 2019-20.

  • Out of the total credit potential for priority sector,agriculture constitues Rs 43,282.11 crore, in which, Rs 40,227.79 crore (92.94 %) is estimated under farm credit, which consists both crop loans and term loans for agriculture and allied activities

Bajaj Housing Finance Limited (BHFL), a 100% subsidiary of Bajaj Finance Limited, has won the ‘BFSI Digital Innovation Award’ for Cloud Solutions at the recently held Express BFSI Technology Conclave and Awards 2020 in Pune.

UCBs hit by around 972 cases of fraud worth Rs 221 crore in past 5 fiscals: RBI
Urban cooperative banks (UCBs) have reported nearly 1,000 cases of fraud worth more than Rs 220 crore in the last five fiscals, according to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

  • Responding to an RTI query, the central bank said a total of 181 fraud cases involving Rs 127.7 crore were noticed during 2018-19.

BSE signed licensing agreement with ICE Futures Europe
The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) has signed a licensing agreement with Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) Futures Europe, an operator of global exchanges and clearing houses.

  • This agreement will serve the needs and interests to the Indian energy commodities space and market participants to access Rupee-dominated Brent benchmark prices.

Domestic Cricket stalwart Vineet Saxena announced retirement
Rajasthan cricketer Vineet Saxena, whose marathon double hundred in the final helped the state win the Ranji Trophy in 2011-12, has announced retirement from the game.

  • The 39-year-old right-hander is the only cricketer from Rajasthan to play 100 or more Ranji matches in a career spanning more than two decades.

Slovenian PM Marjan Sarec announced his resignation
Slovenian Prime Minister Marjan Sarec announced for step down and called for fresh elections, following weeks of rising tensions within his minority five-party coalition government.

  • Mr Sarec, is Slovenia’s youngest-ever Prime Minister. He was previously best known as a comedian and political satirist before he launched himself as an anti-establishment politician.

Anil Khanna nominated as Life President of Asian Tennis Federation (ATF)
The former President of the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF), Anil Khanna, was nominated as the life president of the ATF and also as the Chairman of its Finance Committee during the meeting of the Board of Directors, held in Melbourne

  • CS Sunder Raju was elected as the senior vice president of the ATF, while Anil Dhupar was elected as a member of the Seniors Committee and VK Batra, as member of the Constitution Committee.

Assam and Jal Shakti Mission wins the best tableaux awards for the Republic Day Parade 2020
Assam’s tableau based on the theme ‘Land of Unique Craftsmanship and Culture’ has been adjudged the best among the 16 states and union territories that participated in the Republic Day parade .

  • Among the six tableaux from different ministries and departments, Ministry of Jal Shakti and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) won the joint best award.Its tableau showcased the government’s new initiative ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’
  • The consolation prize was given to the children of West Zone Cultural Centre, Udaipur who presented Garba, the folk dance of Gujarat.

Samvidhaan’ named as Oxford Hindi Word of the Year for 2019
Oxford University Press (OUP) named ‘Samvidhaan’ (Constitution) the Oxford Hindi Word of 2019, saying it received widespread attention in the year which was witness to the spirit of the Indian Constitution being embraced across segments of the society.



OBITUARIES

Arjuna awardee & Former Indian women’s hockey team captain Sunita Chandra passed away
Sunita Chandra, former India women’s hockey team captain, passed away in her sleep at her Madhya Pradesh residence. She was 76.

  • The sports player turned out for the Indian Eves from 1956 to 1966, and was the captain in her last three years of her career – from 1963 to 1966. A gold medal at the 1982 Asian Games followed, with three successive golds coming in during the 2002 Commonwealth Games, the 2003 Afro-Asia Games and the 2004 Women’s Hockey Asia Cup.

Veteran film producer Vinay Sinha passed away at 74
Filmmaker Vinay Sinha, best known for producing cult comedy “Andaz Apna Apna” passed away at Holy Family Multispeciality Hospital in suburb Bandra. He was 74.

Netherland’s football player Robbie Rensenbrink passes away at 72
Former Dutch international Rob Rensenbrink has passed away at the age of 72.Rensenbrink belonged to the golden age of Dutch football, playing in both the 1974 and 1978 FIFA World Cup finals.

  • He was capped 46 times for his country, scoring 14 goals. His nickname in Dutch was ‘Het Slangenmens’ (Snake Man) because of his ability to wriggle out of even the tightest situations.

‘Relentless’ Autobiography by Former finance minister Yashwant Sinha released by Pranab Mukherjee
Former President Pranab Mukherjee released the autobiography of  Yashwant Sinha titled ‘ Relentless’ and agreed with his observation that economy is “the last priority” of a politician in India.

  • The book describes Sinha’s journey from normal life to a high political powered life. The book is published by Bloomsbury Publishing India Pvt Ltd.
