Government is opening Research Park to Promote Science & Technology and augment Research ecosystem
The Government had sanctioned establishment of Research Parks at IIT Madras, IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Gandhinagar and IISc Bangalore to augment the research ecosystem in the country. The research parks at IIT Madras, IIT Kharagpur and IIT Delhi are functional and others are in advanced stages of completion.
- The main objectives of these Research Park are to have research collaboration with top-rated industries, to enable entrepreneurship and incubation of students and building strong academic linkages for the same, to increase outreach of academic content to industry and enabling industry to add value to academic programme through close collaborations etc.
Centre to investigate ‘Havana syndrome’ in India
The central government has agreed to investigate the possibility of the presence of the Havana Syndrome in India. The government made a submission to this effect last week in the Karnataka High Court, which was hearing a plea seeking an investigation into the mysterious illness in the country.
- The petition was filed by A Amarnath Chagu, a resident of Bengaluru, who sought an inquiry into the syndrome in India and measures to prevent its transmission within the country. The Centre’s counsel has agreed to examine the matter in a time-bound manner, with the investigation to be completed within three months.

To create a robust skill-centric and industry ready ecosystem in North-Eastern Region (NER), Union Minister for Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan and Union Minister for Culture, Tourism & Development Of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Shri G. Kishan Reddy and Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Electronics & IT Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar launched a special initiative ‘Transforming Lives, Building Futures: Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in North-East in New Delhi.
- As part of the initiative, 2.5 lakhs youth of the NER will be provided with industry relevant skill training programmes through a wide array of schemes and initiatives, including Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) and Jan Shikshan Sansthans (JSS).
- The Government has earmarked a substantial fund of Rs360 crore to facilitate inclusive development, nurture entrepreneurial talent, and propel the socio-economic growth of the region.
Financial assistance upto Rs. 5.00 Lakh for outstanding sportspersons living in indigent circumstances provided under Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay National Welfare Fund : Shri Anurag Thakur
The Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs implements the scheme of ‘Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay National Welfare Fund for Sportspersons’ (PDUNWFS) with the objectives to provide suitable assistance to outstanding sportspersons now living in indigent circumstances, to provide suitable assistance to outstanding sportspersons injured during the period of their training for competitions and also during the competitions, depending on the nature of the injury, to provide suitable assistance to sportspersons for medical treatment, to provide suitable assistance to promote welfare of sportspersons generally in order to alleviate distress among them and their dependents in indigent circumstances, and to provide assistance to sportspersons living in indigent circumstances for training, procurement for sports equipment, participation in national and international sports events etc.
- Financial assistance upto Rs. 5.00 Lakh for outstanding sportspersons living in indigent circumstances and upto Rs. 10.00 Lakh for medical treatment to sportspersons or family members is provided under the scheme of PDUNWFS.
- This reply was given by the minister of Youth affairs and sports, Shri Anurag Singh Thakur in Lok Sabha.
Govt says crop insurance claims worth Rs 2,761.10 cr pending under PMFBY til 2021-22
According to the recent data, a significant backlog of pending crop insurance claims totally approximately Rs.2,716.10 crore was revealed till 2021-22 under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna (PMFBY). Iraq bans media from using term ‘homosexuality’
Iraq has banned the use of the term “homosexuality“. A notice has been issued to all media and social media companies to not use the term homosexuality.
- Companies have been advised to use the term “sexual deviance” instead.
- As per the official memo issued by the Iraqi Communications and Media Commission, the use of the term “gender” has also been banned. All phone and internet companies licensed with the media regulator have been barred from using of these terms in their mobile applications.

Public sector banks, major private banks collected over ₹21,000 cr for not maintaining minimum balance in accounts
Public Sector Banks and 5 major private sector banks collected over ₹35,000 crore in charges since 2018 on account of non-maintenance of minimum balance, additional ATM transactions and SMS Services, Finance Ministry informed the Rajya Sabha.
- Data submitted as part of a written response by Minister of State in the Finance Ministry, Dr Bhagwat Karad, showed that public sector banks and five major private sector banks (Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, IndusInd Bank, ICICI Bank and IDBI Bank) collected over ₹21,000 crore on account of non-maintenance of minimum balance, while over ₹8,000 crore was collected for transactions through ATM beyond free numbers and SMS charges gave over ₹6,000 crore.
