India to host first-ever global AI summit in Oct, to boost innovation
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has called the first-ever Global IndiaAI 2023 Summit on October 14 and 15. The event will see participation of leading Artificial Intelligence (AI) players, researchers, startups, and investors, from across the world.
- Last November, India assumed the chair of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI). The leadership of GPAI and G20 has provided the country with an unprecedented opportunity to lead on the emerging tech front.

India, New Zealand sign MoU to enhance cooperation in Civil Aviation
The Government of India and the Government of New Zealand have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost cooperation in civil aviation.
- This will cover the scheduling of new routes, codeshare services, traffic rights and capacity entitlement.
- An Air Services Agreement was signed between New Zealand and India in Auckland on 1 May 2016. The Government of New Zealand and the Government of India have reviewed the existing arrangements relating to air service between the two countries. The MoU signed is expected to further boost the bilateral ties in civil aviation between the two countries.

GSL and Kenya Shipyard Ltd Sign MoU For Collaboration In Shipbuilding
State-owned Goa Shipyard Ltd and Kenya Shipyard Ltd signed an MoU for capacity building and collaboration in ship design and construction following Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Kenyan Cabinet Secretary for Defence Aden Bare Duale’s bilateral talks to promote military industry cooperation and deepen maritime security in the Indian Ocean Region.
- The MoU aims to provide assistance from GSL to KSL’s capability-building programme, which includes transfer of technology, design support, infrastructure development consultancy, skilling of Kenyan engineers, and construction as well as repair of ships in Kenya.

Reliance AGM 2023: Nita Ambani steps down; Isha, Akash, Anant join RIL board
Mukesh Ambani’s children – Isha, Akash and Anant, were appointed to the board of Reliance Industries Ltd, in what is seen as a clear path for succession planning at India’s most valuable company. The filing also said Ambani’s wife, Nita Ambani, is stepping down from the company’s board.
- The board of the energy-to-technology conglomerate met ahead of the company’s annual general meeting (AGM) to approve the appointment of twins Isha and Akash, as well as Anant, as the “non-executive directors of the company,” the firm said in a stock exchange filing.
FIDC announces appointment of Shriram Finance Umesh Revankar as new chairman
The Finance Industry Development Council (FIDC), the representative body for asset and loan financing of Non-Banking Finance Companies (NBFCs), has appointed Umesh Revankar as its new chairman.
- The managing committee elected Revankar unanimously during a meeting held in Mumbai. Currently serving as the Executive Vice Chairman for Shriram Finance, he brings with him decades of experience and expertise in the financial services industry.
- In addition to Shriram Finance, Revankar serves as a director for several companies within the Shriram Group, including Shriram Automall India Ltd., Shriram General Insurance Co. Ltd., and Shriram Life Insurance Co. Ltd

ISRO-developed device for fishers’ safety successfully tested at Neendakara
‘Nabhmitra’, a device developed by ISRO-Space Applications Centre (Ahmedabad) for the safety of fishermen, was successfully tested at Neendakara.
- The satellite-based communication system enables two-way messaging services from and to the sea. While weather and cyclone warnings will be communicated in the local language, the boats can also send distress messages to the authorities.
- In emergency situations like capsizing and fire, fishers can press a button on the device and get in touch with the control centre. While the control centre will receive the alert including the location of the boat, the crew on the boat will get a response message from the control centre.
ORON Aircraft: Israel’s Advanced Intelligence-Gathering Asset
The Israeli Ministry of Defense has announced the start of test flights for its “most advanced” surveillance aircraft, the Oron. The announcement comes after Israeli Aerospace Industries (IAI) completed the integration of new, state-of-the-art intelligence systems into the reconnaissance plane after two years.
- The trials are expected to assess the Oron’s ability to accurately track multiple targets over vast distances and challenging weather conditions.
- In 2021, the IDF first received the Oron to support its future intelligence-gathering and target identification missions.The plane is a Gulfstream G550 Aerospace aircraft outfitted with cutting-edge sensors, cameras, and command, control, communications, computer, and intelligence (C4I) systems.
Nitin Gadkari launches world’s first 100% ethanol-run Toyota Innova vehicle
Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari unveiled a 100 per cent ethanol-fueled variant of Toyota’s Innova HyCross car. This car is said to be the world’s first BS-VI (Stage-II), electrified flex-fuel vehicle.
- Flexible fuel vehicles (FFVs) have an internal combustion engine and are capable of operating on petrol and any blend of petrol and ethanol.
- Vehicles running on alternate and greener fuels are necessary for sustainable development.Till now, the maximum limit of mixing is set around 83 per cent but this model says to run on 100 per cent ethanol.
Chandrayaan-3’s Pragyan Rover Confirmes Sulphur Presence On The Surface Of Moon
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) shared another update regarding Chandrayaan-3, its ambitious lunar mission. The space agency said that the Alpha Particle X-ray Spectrometer (APXS), another instrument onboard the spacecraft’s Pragyan rover, has confirmed the presence of Sulphur on the lunar South Pole.
- The instrument also detected other minor elements including Sulfur in the region. It also discovered major elements such as Aluminium, Silicon, Calcium and Iron. Sulphur’s presence was also confirmed by Pragyan rover’s Laser-induced Breakdown Spectroscope (LIBS) instrument.
