Uttarakhand: CM Pushkar Singh Dhami releases logo, website of Global Investors summit in Dehradun
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami launched the logo and website of Investor Global Summit in Dehradun.
- The two-day summit to be held in Dehradun on December 8-9 has set a target of attracting investments worth ₹2.5 lakh crore in various sectors, including tourism and wellness, agriculture and horticulture, health and education, the chief minister said at the launch.
- Dhami also launched a website for the event to give out details and information about the state government’s policies and the different sectors in which investments can be made.
NCERT granted deemed university status
The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has been granted the status of deemed university, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced.
- Established in 1961 under the Society Act, NCERT assists and advises the government in the matter of school education.
- An institution of higher education, other than universities, working at a very high standard in a specific area of study, can be declared a ‘deemed-to-be university’ by the central government on the advice of the University Grants Commission (UGC).
Telangana to get India’s first Gorilla Glass manufacturing facility
In a major boost for Telangana, Corning Inc. has chosen Telangana to set up their gorilla glass manufacturing facility, a first-of-its-kind investment in India. The proposed facility will manufacture cover glass for market leaders in the smartphone industry.
- The proposed investment of ₹934 crore by Corning along with their partners will be a strategic investment and play a pivotal role in driving the smartphone manufacturing ecosystem in Telangana and in India. The proposed facility in Telangana is expected to generate employment for over 800 people.
President inaugurates 12-foot Mahatma Gandhi statue, ‘Gandhi Vatika’ near Rajghat
President Droupadi Murmu emphasised that the goal of world peace can be achieved through the path shown by Mahatma Gandhi as she unveiled a 12-foot statue of the Father of the Nation on the Gandhi Darshan premises at Rajghat.
- Murmu also inaugurated the Gandhi Vatika where statues of Gandhi in different postures have been installed at Gandhi Darshan, close to the Rajghat memorial.

Typhoon Saola makes landfall in Southern China
Typhoon Saola made landfall in southern China before dawn. Nearly nine lakh people were moved to safety and most of Hong Kong and parts of the coastal mainland suspended business, transport and classes. Damage appeared to be minimal. Some services were returning to normal by afternoon.
- Guangdong province’s meteorological bureau said the powerful storm churned into an outlying district of the city of Zhuhai, just south of Hong Kong. It was weakening as it moved in a southwesterly direction along the Guangdong coast at a speed of around 17 kilometers per hour, prompting Hong Kong to resume flights and subway and rail train services.

Bajaj Auto’s arm gets RBI nod to commence NBFC operations
Bajaj Auto Consumer Finance, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Bajaj Auto, has received the Certificate of Registration from the RBI to commence the business of non-banking financial services, the company notified the exchanges.
- The company has also stated that Bajaj Auto Consumer Finance will carry out the business of nonbanking financial institution without accepting public deposits.

BEL inks MoU with Israel Aerospace Industries
Bharat Electronics Limited and IAI have signed an agreement to explore potential in the sector of Short Range Air Defence Systems.
- Navratna Defence Services PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), Israel’s largest aerospace and defense corporation, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to work together to meet India’s needs in the field of Short Range Air Defence Systems.
- The collaboration is yet another key step toward solidifying the synergy between the two organizations, who have a long history of collaboration.

Max Verstappen wins Italian Grand Prix 2023
Runaway Formula One championship Max Verstappen has won the Italian Grand Prix and sets a new record for the most consecutive wins in Formula 1 history with 10.
- Sergio Perez made it a Red Bull 1-2 after he got ahead of Carlos Sainz following a fierce battle with the Ferrari driver in the closing stages.
Durand Cup finals: Mohun Bagan SG defeats East Bengal 1-0 for the first time in 23 yearsÂ
Mohun Bagan clinched the Durand Cup 2023 trophy beating East Bengal 1-0 at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. Mohun Bagan won the 132nd Durand Cup for the first time in 23 years.
- Registering this victory, Mohun Bagan SG has become the first team in the history of Durand Cup to win 17 titles. East Bengal are the second-most successful team in the Durand Cup, and has 16 titles under its name.
- Earlier, Mohun Bagan had made it to the Durand cup finals in 2004, 2009 and 2019, but, could not register a victory back then.

Uday Kotak resigns as Kotak Mahindra Bank MD & CEO, Dipak Gupta takes interim charge
Uday Kotak has stepped down as the Kotak Mahindra Bank managing director and chief executive officer with effect from September 1, the bank said.
- Kotak will, however, continue as a non-executive director of the bank, it said. Uday Kotak’s tenure as the chief executive officer and managing director of the bank ends on December 31, 2023.
- As an interim arrangement, Dipak Gupta, the joint managing director, will carry out the duties of the MD and CEO until December 31, subject to the approval of the RBI and the members of the bank.
