Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah launches the portal developed by NAFED and NCCF for registration, procurement and payment of tur dal producing farmers 
Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah launched the portal developed by National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd. (NAFED)and National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India Limited (NCCF) for registration, procurement and payment of tur dal producing farmers
. The portal will be launched at a national symposium on ‘self-reliance in pulses’.

  • A tur dal procurement portal that will enable farmers to register themselves for selling the commodity and receive payments directly into their bank accounts.The multi-lingual portal will streamline the entire process for tur dal growers in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Karnataka and Jharkhand, simplifying the registration, procurement and payment processes.

10th century Kadamba inscription written in Kannada, Sanskrit found in Goa
An inscription written in Kannada and Sanskrit and said to be of 10th century A.D. Kadamba period has been discovered in the Mahadeva temple at Cacoda in southern Goa.

  • The inscription, written in both Kannada and Sanskrit, sheds light on a historical episode during the Kadamba period, providing valuable insights into the region’s past.
  • Retired associate professor T. Murugeshi, specializing in ancient history and archaeology at Mulki Sundar Ram Shetty College in Udupi district, meticulously studied the inscription. The discovery was brought to light by environmentalist Rajendra Kerkar, highlighting the collaborative effort in uncovering this historical gem.

France Takes Digital Leap with Online Schengen Visas for Paris Olympics
In a pioneering move, France has become the first European Union member to introduce fully digital Schengen visas for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris.

  • Commencing on January 1, 2024, the newly launched “Olympic Consulate” system operates through the France-Visas portal, streamlining the application process for 15,000 international athletes, 9,000 journalists, and foreign delegations.
  • Applications for the 70,000 visas will be exclusively processed online, preventing them from being inundated among other visa requests. This groundbreaking initiative aligns with the EU’s digitalization plans for Schengen visas, marking a significant shift in visa application procedures.

Adidas To Setup GCC In Tamil Nadu, First Asia GCC Outside China: Report
Adidas is gearing up to set up its first and only global capacity centre (GCC) in Asia outside China in Chennai.

  • The Chennai hub of the German company will be designed to seamlessly integrate with Adidas’ existing hubs in Porto (Portugal), Dalian (China), Bogota (Columbia) and North America, catering to the company’s global operations.
  • The company’s attempt aligns with Tamil Nadu Industries Minister TRB Rajaa’s recent statement which underscored Chennai’s attempt to establish itself as the ‘premier choice’ for GCCs and research and development centres in India.

Reliance Industries first in India to receive ISCC-Plus certification
Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) ended 2023 on a high note. The Mumbai-based conglomerate, which operates energy and petrochemical businesses, has become the first in India to produce ISCC-Plus certified chemically recycled polymers.

  • RIL announced on Dec. 29 that it shipped its first batch of ISCC-Plus certified circular polymers, named CircuRepol (polypropylene) and CircuRelene (polyethylene), to an undisclosed client.
  • The ISCC-Plus certification applies to RIL’s Jamnagar refinery, located in the state of Gujarat. RIL has developed a continuous catalytic pyrolysis technology that converts plastics waste, including single-use and multi-layered plastics, into pyrolysis oil. The company says the technology provides ‘high yields of good quality pyrolysis oil’, without specifying values.

  • With over 25 years of experience at SEBI, Rao brings a wealth of expertise to his new role. In his capacity as ED, he will oversee the investigation department and the internal inspection department, reinforcing SEBI’s commitment to maintaining market integrity.
  • Before assuming his recent role, Rao handled critical portfolios including inspections, investigations, and market surveillance. His experience at the Northern Regional Office and the Serious Fraud Investigation Office reflects a comprehensive understanding of regulatory challenges and a commitment to addressing them effectively.

Prof B R Kamboj Honoured With M S Swaminathan Award
Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University’s Vice Chancellor Prof. B.R. Kamboj has been honoured with the prestigious M.S. Swaminathan Award in recognition of his contributions as a scientist and extension specialist in the field of agronomy.

  • Thawar Chand Gehlot, the Governor of Karnataka, presented him this award. The award ceremony took place at the International Conference on ‘One Health One World,’ held at Rajmata Vijayaraje  Scindia Agricultural University at Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh.

The Kuvempu Rashtriya Puraskar 2023 goes to Bengali writer Shirshendhu Mukhopadhyay
Bengali writer Shirshendhu Mukyopadhyaya has been awarded the 2023 Kuvempu Rashtriya Puraskar.The esteemed award comes with a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh, a silver medal, and a citation. He has written more than 90 books, including travelogues and fiction for children.

  • The national award, named in honour of the late Kannada poet Kuvempu, celebrates writers who have made significant contributions to any Indian language.

Prof. Adrian Cruise Receives ‘Order Of The British Empire’ For Space Science Leadership
