  1. Shravan and  Ronny  decided to go on a holiday  to B  on a particular day  from A. Shravan leaves for B  at 10 :00 am , at speed of 72km/hr. Ronny leaves for  B at 10:30 am same day  as Shravan left. At what speed should Ronny travel to catch up with Shravan in 4 hours?[in kmph] A) 86
    B) 81
    C) 78
    D) 80
    E) 82
    View Answer
      Option B
    Solution:
Distance  covered  by  Shravan  in  half  an  hour = 72*(1/2)= 36km
Relative  speed  of  Ronnny = (x-72) kmph
    Therefore , 36 /(x-72) =4
    X = 81 kmph

  2. A started  a business. After 4 months from the start of the  business ,B and C joined. The  respective  ratio between the amounts invested by A, B and C  was  6:11:12 . If the C’s share in annual profit was Rs. 720 more  than A’s share  ,what was the total annual profit earned ?
    A) Rs. 7580
    B) Rs. 7680
    C) Rs. 7860
    D) Rs. 8680
    E) Rs. 8210
    View Answer
      Option B
    Solution:
Ratio of the equivalent capitals of A,B and C for 1 month
    = 6x * 12  : 11x * 8 : 12x *8
    = 9 : 11 : 12
    sum of the ratios =  9 + 11+ 12 = 32
If total amount profit be Rs. y
    then,
    12y/32    –     9y/32  = 720
    =>   720 *32/3 = Rs. 7680
  3. In a school  the number of boys and that  of  the girls are in the  respective ratio of 2:3 . If the number of boys is increased by 20% and that of girls is increased by 10% ,what will be the new ratio of number of boys to that of the girls ?
    A) 14:5
    B) 5:8
    C) 21:6
    D) 13:4
    E) 8:11
    View Answer
      Option E
    Solution:
let the ratio of the no. of boys and girls be  2x and 3x respectively .
    No. of boys after 20% increase  = 1.20 * 2x = 2.4x
    No. of girls after 10% increase   =  1.10 * 3x = 3.3x
    Required  ratio
    = 2.4x/3.3x = 8 /11 = 8:11
  4. The area of a square is 1024 sq.cm . What is the respective  ratio between the length  and the breadth  of a rectangle whose length  is twice the side of the square  and  breadth is 12 cm less than the side  of  the square  ?
    A) 10:6
    B) 12:8
    C) 14:7
    D) 16:5
    E) 15:8
    View Answer
      Option D
    Solution:
    side of the square = root(1024) = 32 cm
    Length of the rectangle  = 2* 32 = 64
    Breadth of the rectangle =  32 – 12 = 20 cm
    Required ratio =  64 : 20  = 16 : 5
  5. In a container  there  are  25 eggs  out  of  which  5 eggs  are  rotten . If  two eggs are chosen at  random, what  will  be  the  probability  that  at least  one  egg  is rotten ?     A) 10/30
    B) 11/29
    C) 12/20
    D) 11/30
    E) 10/29
    View Answer
      Option D
    Solution:
    Total outcomes= 25c2= 300
    Favourable outcomes = 20c1*5c1 +5c2 = 100 +10 = 110
Now, Probability of selecting at least one rotten egg = 110/300
    = 11/30
  6. Equal amounts of water were poured into three empty jars of different capacities, which made one jar 1/6 full, second jar 1/5 full and the third one 1/13 full. If the water in the jar with highest capacity is then poured into the jar with least capacity jar and then both are poured into the third (second least) capacity jar then the part of that jar filled with water is?
    A) 3/2
    B) 5/2
    C) 1/4
    D) 1/2
    E) 3/4
    View Answer
    Option D
    Solution:
Let 1 liter water is poured in all the three jars.
    1st filled 1/6th => Capacity = 6 liter.
    Similarly 2nd capacity = 5 liters
    third capacity = 13 litres
1 liter from largest jar (13 liter) is poured in smallest jar (5 liter)
    => water in smallest jar = 1+1 = 2 liter.
this is then poured into jar with capacity ( 6 litre )
total water in this jar now = 1+1+1 = 3litre
    part filled 3/6 = ½
  7. 8 litre are drawn from a cask of full wine and is then filled with water. This operation is performed three more times. The ratio of the quantity of wine now left in cask to that of the water is 16:65.how much wine di the cask hold originally?
    A) 20
    B) 24
    C) 30
    D) 16
    E) 36
    View Answer
    Option B
    Solution:

    1 – whole 4(16/65+16)
    1 – 2/3=8
    1/3=8
    1=3*8=24 ltr.
  8. A cricketer whose balling average is 24.85 run per wicket takes 5 wicket for 52 and thereby decrease his average by 0.85.the number of wickets taken by him before the last match was?
    A) 60
    B) 75
    C) 90
    D) 80
    E) 85
    View Answer
    Option D
    Solution:

    24.85 ………….52/5=10.4
    …………….24
    13.6………………0.85
    2.72………………….17
    17=5 => 1=5/17 => 2.72=5*2.72/17=80
  9. 60 kg of a certain variety of rice at rs.32 per kg is mixed with 48 kg of another variety of rice and the mixture is sold at the average price of rs.28 per kg. If there is no profit or loss due to the new sale price, the price of secondary variety of rice per kg is?
    A) 20
    B) 24
    C) 28
    D) 23
    E) 33
    View Answer
    Option D
    Solution:

    32……….X
    ……..28
    5…………..4
    32*5+4*X / 9 = 28 => X=92/4=23
  10. There are two alloys A and B. Alloy A contains zinc, copper and silver, as 60% 25% and 15% respectively, whereas alloy B also contains the same metals with percentages 60%, 15%, 25% respectively. If these two alloys are mixed such that the resultant will contain 18% silver, what is the ratio of these three metals in the resultant alloy?
    A) 60:22:18
    B) 15:27:19
    C) 60:28:24
    D) 18:41:36
    E) 23 : 45 : 11
    View Answer
    Option A
    Solution:

the resultant alloy contains 9% silver so
    A______B
    15_______25
    ____ 18____
    7________3
    7:3
Then the resultant zinc percentage is
    (7*60 + 3*60)/(7+3) = 60%.
    So, copper percentage = 100 – (60 + 18) = 22
    The ratio of these metals = 60 : 22 : 18

      A______B
      15(Alloy A ka silver )_______25(Alloy B ka silver )
      ____ 18(resultant)____
      7________3
      7:3
The amount of zinc is same in both the alloy A and B :
Then the resultant zinc percentage is
      (7*60 + 3*60)/(7+3) = 60%.
      So, copper percentage = 100 – (60 + 18) = 22
      The ratio of these metals = 60 : 22 : 18
