Reasoning: Puzzles and Arrangements for upcoming Exams – Set 117

Directions: Read the following information carefully and answer the questions given below it:

There are four floors in a building as ground floor is numbered one and above it is two and so on up to top floor numbered as 4 and each of the floors consists of 3 flats as flat – 1, flat – 2 and flat – 3. Flat -1 of floor 2 is immediately above flat – 1 of floor 1 and immediately below flat -1 of floor 3 and so on and similarly for flat – 2 and flat – 3.
Twelve persons M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W and X lives in different flats of different floors. Only one person lives in one flat of one floor and only one person lives in between Q and S in the same flat number. T lives on an even numbered floor. P lives in the immediate east of Q. O lives to the immediate west of W and on an even numbered floor.
No one lives to the east of N who lives on an odd numbered floor. Two persons live between R and U in same flat number. R lives above U. Neither O nor W lives to the immediate neighbour of R. Q lives immediately above W in same flat number. V does not live on same floor on R and P lives. M lives one of floor above X and not in the east of T.

  1. Who among the following lives on same flat number?
    R – Q
    M – W
    T – Q
    X – S
    None of these
    Option B
    Solution:

    2. O lives to the immediate west of W and on an even numbered floor. Two persons live between R and U in same flat number. R lives above U. Neither O nor W lives to the immediate neighbour of R.

    3. P lives in the immediate east of Q. Q lives immediately above W in same flat number. Only one person lives in one flat of one floor and only one person lives in between Q and S in the same flat number.
This is possible in case 1(b).

    4. V does not live on same floor on R and P lives.
Hence, V lives on floor number 2.
T lives on an even numbered floor. M lives one of floor above X and not in the east of T.

Hence, M and W lives on same flat.

  2. What is the sum of flat number of X and floor number of V?
    5
    3
    2
    4
    6
    Option B
Hence, sum of flat number of X and floor number of V is 3.

  3. V lives on which floor number?
    1st
    2nd
    3rd
    4th
    Cannot be determined
    Option B
Hence, V lives on floor number 2.

  4. Who among the following lives to the immediate neighbour of N?
    M
    W
    S
    X
    Q
    Option C
Hence, S lives to the immediate neighbour of N.

  5. Who among the following lives in flat number 2?
    X
    P
    O
    W
    U
    Option D
Hence, W lives in flat number 2.

  6. Directions: Read the following information carefully and answer the questions given below it:

There are different number of flats in each floor of a eight storey building. The lowermost floor of the building is numbered one, the one above that is numbered two and so till the topmost floor is numbered eight. Area of floor is 750 ft which is equal for each floor. Floor 5 has 8 numbers of flats above the floor which has 3 flats. There are more than one floor between the floor which contains 3 flats and which contains 10 flats but less than three floors. The number of floors between the floor number 5 and floor which has 5 flats is equal to the number of floors between floor number 7 and which contains 4 flats. Only one floor is between first floor and flat which has a area of 375 sq ft. There are no floors between the floor which contains 8 flats and which has 3 flats. Only two floors are between floors which contain flat size of area 50sq ft each and floor 4. Floor of flat size 250sq ft each is above the floor number 2. Floor which has 5 flats is below the floor which has 4 flats. Neither floor 2 nor floor 1 contains 10 flats. One of the floors has 6 flats.

  7. Which of the following floor has 6 flats?
    8
    6
    2
    1
    7
    Option C
    Solution:
    1. Floor 5 has 8 numbers of flats above the floor which has 3 flats. There are more than one floor between the floor which contains 3 flats and which contains 10 flats but less than three floors. There are no floors between the floor which contains 8 flats and which has 3 flats.

    2. Only one floor is between first floor and flat which has a area of 375 sq ft. Area of floor is 750 ft which is equal for each floor.
Hence, floor 3 has 2 flats.

    3. Only two floors are between floors which contain flat size of area 50sq ft each and floor 4.
Hence, floor 1 has 15 flats. Neither floor 2 nor floor 1 contains 10 flats.
This is not possible in case 1. So, case 2 is correct.

    4. The number of floors between the floor number 5 and floor which has 5 flats is equal to the number of floors between floor number 7 and which contains 4 flats. Floor which has 5 flats is below the floor which has 4 flats. One of the floors has 6 flats.

Hence, floor 2 has 6 flats.

  8. What is the area of each flat in floor number 8?
    150 sq.ft.
    187.5 sq.ft.
    250 sq.ft.
    125 sq.ft.
    50 sq.ft.
    Option B
Hence, area of each flat of floor 8 is 187.5 sq ft.

  9. Which of the following floor has highest number of flats?
    8
    7
    6
    1
    2
    Option D
Hence, floor 1 has highest number of flats.

  10. Four of the following are alike in a certain way and hence form a group. Which of the following does not belong to that group?
    15 flats
    375 sq ft area
    150 sq ft area
    10 flats
    50 sq ft area
    Option C
Hence, except the one which has area of 150 sq ft of each flat all other are related to odd number of floors.

  11. How many floors are between the one which has 4 flats and the one which has area of 50 sq ft of each flat?
    Three
    Four
    Five
    Six
    None
    Option D
Hence, six floors are there between the one which has 4 flats and the one which has area of 50 sq ft of each flat.
