‘Vande Metro’ to be rolled out by December 2023, says Ashwini Vaishnaw
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that the Union government plans to introduce ‘Vande Metro’ by December 2023. This announcement comes after the successful launch of the Vande Bharat Express, which is a semi-high-speed train operating in several parts of the country.
- The upcoming metro network is expected to connect major cities and provide a cost-effective mode of transportation.
A HELP Program launched in the State of Uttarakhand
The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Mr. Pushkar Singh Dhami launched ‘A-HELP’ (Accredited Agent for Health and Extension of Livestock Production) programme in the State of Uttarakhand.
- Under this Programme women have been chosen to strengthen livestock related activities in remote rural areas, keeping in mind their important role for the same under A-HELP scheme, envisioned by Govt. of India.
- Under this program trained A-HELPs will give their vital contribution in preventing various infectious diseases of animals, artificial insemination under Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM), tagging of animals and animal insurance.

EAM Dr S Jaishankar inaugurates Buzi Bridge in Mozambique built by India
External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar began his engagements in Maputo, Mozambique by meeting with President of Assembly Esperança Bias.
- They discussed the historic cooperation between the two countries and reiterated India’s support for Mozambique’s sustainable development. The conversation focused on counter terrorism, disaster resilience and green growth.
- Dr Jaishankar also virtually inaugurated the Buzi Bridge, constructed as part of 132 km Tica-Buzi-Nova-Sofala Road project. The bridge has been by built by India. He said, the bridge is a practical example of India Mozambique solidarity and friendship.
UAE is India’s second biggest export destination, third biggest source for imports
The UAE continues to be the second most important export destination for India, according to annual trade figures released by the Ministry of Commerce, the government of India. The US and the UAE retained the first and second places respectively in this category during the financial year 2022-23, the Ministry’s figures showed. The figures for the year were released a fortnight after the new year began.
- They showed that India’s overall exports of merchandise and services rose by six percent during the financial year that got over at the end of last month.
- The Netherlands rose to third place in this category during the same period, replacing China. The importance of The Netherlands was owed to a high level of refined petroleum products through the maritime nation last year.
India to chair Commonwealth group on reform of financial architecture
Finance ministers from various Commonwealth countries have called for a systemic reform of the global financial architecture to enhance access to development financing for vulnerable countries.
- The ministers agreed for India to be the chair and Nigeria to be the deputy chair of the Finance Ministers Working Group for a Commonwealth Call for Reform of the Global Financial Architecture.
- Their collective call for reform came at the Commonwealth Finance Ministers High-Level Working Group Meeting in Washington D.C.

US emerges as India’s biggest trading partner in FY23 at $128.55 bn; China at second position
According to provisional data from the commerce ministry, the bilateral trade between India and the United States has risen by 7.65% to reach $128.55 billion in the fiscal year 2022-23, making the United States India’s largest trading partner.
- This represents an increase from $119.5 billion in the previous year and $80.51 billion in 2020-21, indicating a growing economic relationship between the two countries.
- Meanwhile, India’s bilateral trade with China decreased by approximately 1.5%, reaching $113.83 billion in 2022-23, down from $115.42 billion in the previous year.
MRF emerges as ‘second strongest tyre brand in the world’
According to a recent report by Brand Finance, a U.K.-based brand value uation consultancy, MRF Ltd. has been ranked as the second-strongest tyre brand in the world. The report evaluated various parameters, and MRF scored high on most of them, including being the second fastest-growing tyre brand globally.
- With a score of 83.2 out of 100, MRF received a AAA- brand rating. The report also mentioned MRF as the most valuable Indian tyre brand and the only Indian tyre manufacturer in the top 10. Furthermore, MRF performed well in the Sustainability Perception Value category.

Punjab Kings paceman Kagiso Rabada scripted history as he became the fastest bowler to take 100 IPL wickets during the match against Gujarat Titans at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.

European Space Agency’s Juice mission launches to search for life on Jupiter’s moons
The European Space Agency (ESA) launched the Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer mission (Juice) using an Ariane 5 rocket from Europe’s spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana.
- Juice aims to explore Jupiter and three of its largest moons. Juice will spend the next 17 days deploying its solar arrays, antennas, and other instruments before conducting three months of instrument testing and preparation.
- The spacecraft’s ultimate destination is Jupiter, and it will take eight years for Juice to reach the planet, which is the largest in our solar system. During its long journey, the spacecraft will use gravitational slingshots by flying past Earth, our moon, and Venus to help propel it forward.
