Cabinet approves eCourts Phase III for 4 years
The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the eCourts Project Phase III as a Central Sector Scheme spanning four years (2023 onwards) with financial outlay of Rs.7210 crore.

  • In line with the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji’s “Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas and Sabka Vishwas”, eCourts Mission Mode Project is the prime mover for improving access to justice using technology.
  • As part of the National eGovernance Plan, the e-Courts Project is under implementation since 2007 for ICT enablement of the Indian Judiciary the Phase II of which has concluded in 2023. Phase III of the e-Courts Project in India is rooted in philosophy of “access and inclusion”.

Vizag identified as Niti Aayog pilot city 
Visakhapatnam has been identified as one of the pilot cities of Niti Aayog, said Niti Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam.

  • So far, Mumbai, Surat and Vishakhapatnam have been identified for the pilot phase of Niti Aayog.
  • The Niti Aayog CEO said that the city with its natural resources and rail, port and air connectivity would soon emerge as a developed city.

Tata Power, SIDBI tie up to facilitate solar adoption by MSMEs
Tata Power Solar Systems Limited (TPSSL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI).

  • The partnership aims to provide easier financing options to Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) who are keen on adopting solar energy solutions.
  • This collaboration is primarily set to promote solar energy adoption among MSMEs. Financial support will be provided to enterprises looking to acquire Rooftop Solar PV Plants or other related services from Tata Power or its authorized channel partners across India.

NTPC, Chidambaranar Port collaborate to develop green hydrogen hub
NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has signed an MoU with V.O Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA) for development of Green Hydrogen Hub at VOCPA, Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu.

  • The MoU envisages collaboration between NGEL and VOCPA to develop Green Hydrogen Hub for production of Green Hydrogen and its derivatives, such as Green Ammonia and Green Methanol, on the land provided by VOCPA for export and domestic usage.

Tata Steel SEZ signs MoU with Avaada Group for green ammonia plant
Tata Steel Special Economic Zone (TSSEZL) and Avaada GreenH2, part of Avaada Group, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a green hydrogen and green ammonia project at Gopalpur Industrial Park in Odisha.

  • Avaada Group will acquire 120 acres at the Gopalpur Industrial Park, to set up a 0.5-mtpa green hydrogen/ammonia production facility.
  • Odisha’s roadmap for the green fuels sector is comprehensive and the green ammonia will be produced from green hydrogen, and the production facilities will be powered by renewable energy.
  • The green hydrogen and ammonia, produced at this facility, will be exported from the existing Gopalpur Port facility. The Utility Corridor between Gopalpur Industrial Park and Gopalpur Port will provide a dedicated corridor for smooth logistics and pipeline connectivity.

SP Sethuraman regains National chess title after nine years
SP Sethuraman has regained his form, re-capturing the National chess title after nearly a decade.The Grandmaster who was the third seed coming into the competition and won the title for the first time since 2014.

  • Sethuraman finished with 9.5 points from 11 rounds which gave him the champion’s title, a trophy, and cash prize of Rs 6 lakhs.
  • The runner up position went to VP Prasanna, whom Sethuraman credited for keeping up his morale during the recent run of bad form.

SIIMA 2023 winners: Jr NTR wins Best Actor award for RRR, Rishab Shetty’s Kantara wins in most categories
SIIMA Awards 2023 is one of the leading awards of South Cinema. The Awards is back with its 11th edition. The South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA) celebrate the best of South Indian movies from the Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada film industries

  • Telugu film RRR and Kannada film Kantara won big at the South Indian International Movie Awards 2023 (SIIMA) in Dubai. Sita Ramam also won quite a few awards including the coveted Best Film award (Telugu).
  • SS Rajamouli couldn’t attend the event but won the Best Director award for RRR. Jr NTR and Allu Aravind received his award on his behalf while being joined by several other celebrities on stage. Jr NTR also won the Best Actor award at the event.
  • Rishab Shetty turned out to be the star of the night as his film Kantara won the most number of awards. However, the Best Film award (Kannada) went to 777 Charlie.

Erica Robin crowned first-ever Miss Universe Pakistan
A 24-year-old Pakistani model, Erica Robin, has become the first-ever ‘Miss Universe Pakistan’ 2023. She was crowned in Maldives.

  • She will now represent Pakistan at the 72nd Global Miss Universe Pageant, one of the longest running beauty contests, in El Salvador in November this year.
  • Erica Robin competed against Hira Inam (24), Jessica Wilson (28), Malika Alvi (19) and Sabrina Wasim (26) for the title.

Infosys only Indian company in top 100 TIME World’s Best Companies list
IT major Infosys is the only Indian company to feature in the top 100 list of the World’s Best Companies of 2023 released by TIME Magazine and online data platform Statista.

  • Microsoft, Apple, and Alphabet (Google owner) are top 3 in the list while India’s Infosys was ranked 64th with an overall score of 88.38 out of 100.
  • Sustainability-wise, Infosys was ranked 135th while in terms of employee satisfaction the company’s rank was 103rd. As per TIME Magazine, the growth rate of the company has been high. Infosys was among the top 3 professional services companies in the world.
  • In the list of 750 companies, 7 companies were also listed apart from Infosys. Big Tech major Wipro was on 174th rank in the list while Anand Mahindra-led Mahindra Group was on 210th rank. Reliance Industries was at 248th rank, HCL Technologies at 262nd rank, HDFC Bank at 418th rank, WNS Global Services at 596th rank, and finally ITC at 672nd rank.

Pune’s Kayani to Kolkata’s Flurys: Six iconic Indian spots named among ‘most legendary dessert places in the world’
Taste Atlas, an experiential travel online guide, released a list of the 50 most legendary dessert places in the world. Unsurprisingly, three Kolkata eateries made it to the list.

  • India features on the list 6 times, the United States holds 8 spots on the condensed list of top 50.Italy holds 5 spots in the top 50, with its winning eateries spread across Rome, Catania and Modica.4 eateries in the top 50 list belong to Paris.
  • Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune and Hyderabad happen to house the eateries on the list. Kolkata on its own, notably holds three of the six spots on the list.
  • Pune’s Kayani Bakery holds spot 18 on the list for its Mawa cake. This is followed by Kolkata’s KC Das at spot 25 for its rasgulla. Kolkata features yet again on the very next spot – number 26, for the Rumballs at Flurys. Hyderabad’s Karachi Bakery holds spot number 29 for its fruit biscuits. Kolkata features for a third and final time at spot 37 B&R Mullick’s sandesh. India holds the penultimate position – spot 49 – on the top 50 list, with Mumbai’s K. Rustom & Co.’s ice cream sandwich.
