Defence Ministry launches three new initiatives for welfare of ex-servicemen, their families
Defence Ministry launched three new initiatives for the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families on the occasion of Armed Forces Veterans Day,which is celebrated on 14 January every year.

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced that the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare has allotted 320 crore rupees to Armed Forces Flag Day Fund for the welfare veterans and their families. This will benefit over one lakh 66 thousand wards and widows of Ex-Servicemen.
  • Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare also launched a dedicated Raksha Pension Shikayat Nivaran Portal designed to speedily redress pension, including family pension-related grievances of ex-servicemen and their dependents.
  • Directorate General of Resettlement has issued around seven thousand 900 job letters to freshly retired Ex-servicemen during the period of April to December 2021.

R-Day celebrations to begin every year from Jan 23 to include birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose
Republic Day Celebrations will now begin every year from 23rd January instead of 24th.

  • According to Government of India’s sources, the step was taken to include the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Subash Chandra Bose. Birth anniversary of Subhas Chandra Bose is celebrated as Parakram Divas across the country.
  • This is in line with Modi’s Government focus on celebrating and commemorating important aspects of country’s rich history and culture.

RBI releases Annual Report of Ombudsman Schemes, ‪2020-21‬
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released the Annual Report of the Ombudsman Schemes for the year 2020-21 for nine months (July 1, 2020- March 31, 2021).

  • As per the report, the volume of complaints received was increased by 22.27 % on an annualized basis, BOS accounted for the major increase.
  • The overall disposal rate improved from 92.52 per cent to 96.59 per cent, despite the higher volume of complaints received.

Paytm Payments Bank leads UPI beneficiary chart; SBI biggest remitter in December
Paytm Payments Bank has emerged as the biggest receiver of UPI amount with 926.17 million transactions while public sector bank SBI topped the chart of being the biggest remitter in December, according to data released by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).

  • Paytm Payments Bank Ltd (PPBL) claimed to have become the first beneficiary bank in the country to achieve the landmark of over 926 million UPI transactions in a single month.
  • State Bank of India followed PPBL as the second-largest beneficiary with 664.89 million transactions.
  • According to the NPCI data, Standard Chartered bank had the highest approval rate of 96.74 per cent in remittance of UPI transactions, while Citi Bank registered the highest approval rate of 99.84 per cent among UPI beneficiaries.

Indifi Technologies has collaborated with Google Pay to provide instant loans to eligible small merchants on the Google Pay platform.

  • The biggest challenge that most small business owners face is working capital management and the speed of securing capital to manage it.
  • The collaboration aims to address this problem and help small merchants to meet their working capital needs.

TVS Motor Company Joins Hands with Swiggy For Use of Electric Scooters to Deliver Food
TVS Motor Company said it has inked a pact with leading on-demand delivery platform Swiggy to bolster the electric commercial mobility segment. 

  • The partnership highlights TVS Motor Company’s commitment to strengthen electrification across diverse mobility segments and align with Swiggy’s many efforts to enable the adoption of EVs in its delivery fleet.
  • As part of the agreement, TVS Motor and Swiggy will test the implementation of TVS Motor’s EV for food delivery and other on-demand services of Swiggy.

Virat Kohli steps down as Indian Cricket Team’s Test Captain
Virat Kohli has stepped down as the Test captain of the Indian Men’s cricket team. The decision comes after the series defeat against South Africa.

  • Kohli replaced MS Dhoni as the captain of Indian team and became the most successful Test captain with 40 wins in 68 matches. Under his dynamic captaincy India became a formidable  force and dominated every team at home. He became the first-ever Asian captain to win a Test series in Australia.
