Punjab Cabinet approves Rs 1,500 per acre incentive for farmers adopting DSR
Aiming to conserve scarce natural resources like underground water through Direct Seeding of Rice (DSR) technology, Punjab Cabinet approved Rs 1,500 per acre incentive to the farmers for sowing of paddy through this innovative technology.

  • The government has earmarked Rs 450 crore to provide incentives to the farmers for the promotion of less water consuming and cost-effective DSR technology. The step would be instrumental to save nearly about 15-20 percent water as compared to the conventional puddling (kaddu) method during the life cycle of crops.

Railway Ministry approves Rs 8.34 cr collaborative project with IIT Madras on Hyperloop technology
The Union Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics & Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw approved an Rs 8.34 crore collaborative initiative on Hyperloop Technology, proposing a high-speed transportation system with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, during his visit to the campus.

  • The approval follows the submission of the research proposal by the IIT-Madras to collaborate with the Indian Railways to indigenously develop and validate the Hyperloop technology-based transportation system and its subsystems.

CBSE supports Tourism Ministry’s initiative to establish YUVA Tourism Club
The Union Ministry of Tourism has initiated establishing ‘YUVA Tourism Clubs’ as part of the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations with the CBSE instructing schools to form such clubs in their institutions, an official statement said.

  • The vision of YUVA Tourism Clubs is to nurture and develop young ambassadors of the Indian tourism, it said.
  • These young ambassadors would be catalysts for promoting tourism in India. Participation in Tourism Clubs is also expected to facilitate development of soft skills like teamwork, management, leadership besides encouraging adoption of responsible tourism practices and concern for sustainable tourism.

J&K Delimitation Commission order comes into force
Jammu and Kashmir delimitation commission’s order on electoral segments in the Union Territory came into force after the Central government issued the notification in this regard.

  • The delimitation commission was headed by Justice (Retired) Ranjana Prakash Desai, former chief election commissioner of India, Sushil Chandra, and J&K election commissioner KK Gupta.
  • In its reorganization of electoral segments, the commission has delimited 90 assembly seats for J&K out of which 47 are for the Kashmir division 43 for Jammu division.

Rajasthan: 45,000 women of ‘Aajeevika Mission’ to become Suraksha sakhi of State Police
In Rajasthan, 45 thousand women of Aajeevika Mission will become Suraksha sakhi of State Police. This is an innovative initiative taken by Rajasthan Police with the help of Rural Livelihood Mission for empowerment of women in the state.

  • With the efforts of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Sunita Meena and Mission Director Manju Rajpal so far about 13000 Suraksha sakhis have been recruited by the state police. About 3500 of them are recruited in Jaipur itself.


The world’s first airport for flying cars opens in the UK
The world’s first airport for electric drones and flying cars just opened in the centre of a city in the UK. If it’s a success, it will be the blueprint for hundreds more around the world.

  • The pop-up Air-One has been built in the city of Coventry. It’s designed for zero-emission electric drones and air taxis and the airport itself is powered by hydrogen fuel cells.
  • The project is the result of a partnership between Coventry City Council and UK start-up Urban-Air Port Ltd to demonstrate the potential of urban air mobility to cut congestion and air pollution.


Assam Rifles, Axis Bank and NIEDO join hands to establish Centre of Excellence in Nagaland
Assam Rifles, Axis Bank and National Integrity and Educational Development Organisation (NIEDO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a Centre of Excellence and Wellness, to secure a better future for the youth of Nagaland.

  • The programme would mentor and guide children and aid their future growth story as well as provide value-based education including soft skills training, critical life competencies, leadership training, personal conditioning, wellness programs, vocational training, personality development, and end to end grooming to aid them in becoming a productive human resource for the nation.

RBL Bank ties up with Amazon Pay to offer UPI payment services
RBL Bank, Amazon Pay, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have partnered together to deliver universal payments interface (UPI) payments, which will include peer-to-peer and peer-to-merchant transactions.

  • Amazon Pay would grant RBL Bank a UPI ID with the handle @rapl from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), resulting in a simplified payments experience using RBL Bank’s cloud-based processing infrastructure.
  • With its AWS-hosted payment processing technology, RBL strengthens its footprint in the UPI arena, allowing the bank to interact with Amazon Pay’s growing client base and transaction volumes.

BRICS bank issues USD 1.04 bn worth of bond in China’s interbank bond market
BRICS New Development Bank (NDB) has issued a RMB-denominated bond of 7 billion yuan (about USD 1.04 billion) in China’s interbank bond market with a maturity of three years, the bank said.

  • The net proceeds from the sale of the bond will form a part of the bank’s general corporate resources onshore and will be used to finance infrastructure and sustainable development activities in the bank’s member countries.


C-DOT and Vodafone Idea Limited sign MoU for cooperation in area of IoT/M2M
Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), the R&D arm of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and Vodafone Idea have signed a pact to leverage each other’s expertise in their respective domains to develop and deploy IoT/M2M solutions in India.

  • IoT (Internet of Things) adoption has become critical for any organisation’s digital transformation journey. However, in the current deployments, certain operational challenges such as device network compatibility, over the air firmware upgrade, remote device configuration, security vulnerabilities and implementation in siloes with proprietary protocols are preventing businesses from reaping the scale benefits of IoT.

Tata Technologies partners with Assam govt to transform polytechnics, ITIs into Centres of Excellence
Tata Technologies Ltd has entered into a partnership with Assam government to transform 34 state polytechnics and 43 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) into futuristic Centres of Excellence (CoEs) entailing an investment of about Rs 2,390 crore.

  • The company has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Assam government for a period of 10 years for the purpose, Tata Technologies.
  • According to the statement, after upgradation, these COEs will not only cater to the advanced skill requirements of students aligned to the key industries in Assam, but also act as a technology and industrial hub for MSMEs and support entrepreneurship.


Adani Group acquires franchise in UAE’s T20 League 
Adani Sportsline, a subsidiary of the Adani group, has acquired the rights to own and operate a franchise in the six-member UAE T20 League.

  • With this, it becomes the fourth Indian group after Reliance Industries (RIL), GMR group and Capri Global, a non-banking financial company based in Mumbai, to own teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL)-style tournament that is likely to commence in June.


IndiGo Appoints Pieter Elbers As CEO, Ronojoy Dutta To Retire
Low-cost carrier IndiGo has appointed aviation industry veteran Pieter Elbers as its Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Ronojoy Dutta, who retires on September 30.

  • Elbers will join the airline on or before October 1. Since 2014, Elbers has been the president and chief executive officer of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.

Aruna Singh Takes Additional Charge As Cmd Of Railtel Corp
Aruna Singh presently working as Additional Member (Telecom) in the Railway Board took over additional charge of the post of Chairman & Managing Director of RailTel Corporation of India Limited (RCIL).

  • Singh is an officer of 1985 batch of Indian Railway Service of Signal Engineers (IRSSE) and a Graduate in Electronics and Telecommunication from Delhi College of Engineering, Delhi.

Equitas SFB Managing Director & CEO Vasudevan to step down
PN Vasudevan, Managing Director and CEO, Equitas Small Finance Bank, has decided to step down from his role in order to focus on the public charitable trust that he and his wife had set up.

  • The bank would be forming a search committee shortly to undertake the process of identifying a successor, it further said.
  • Vasudevan would continue as MD and CEO till the succession and transition process is completed.


China plans world’s first nearby habitable planet search with space telescope
Chinese scientists have proposed a space project to survey the sky through a space-borne telescope to hunt for habitable Earth-like planets outside the solar system, about 32 light-years from Earth, the official media reported.

  • The project, named Closeby Habitable Exoplanet Survey (CHES), if carried out, will be the first space mission specially designed to search for habitable terrestrial planets around nearby Sun-like stars.
  • The CHES will observe about 100 Sun-like stars 32 light-years away on a long-term survey, and will hopefully discover roughly 50 Earth-like planets or super-Earths, planets that are up to about 10 times the mass of Earth.

World’s highest weather station installed on Mount Everest
A team of experts from the National Geographic Society has installed the “world’s highest weather station” on Mt. Everest at an altitude of 8,830 metres to automatically measure various meteorological phenomena, the Nepalese media reported.

  • The DHM and National Geographic signed a memorandum of understanding to operate all five Automatic Weather Stations installed by NatGeo to provide near real-time information regarding mountain conditions.

Kerala to launch India’s first state-owned OTT platform on Nov 1
The Kerala government will launch a state-owned over-the-top (OTT) platform on November 1, offering film lovers an array of movies, short films and documentaries of their choice. Kerala will become the first state in India to have a state-owned OTT platform.

  • Minister for Cultural Affairs Saji Cheriyan revealed the name of the OTT platform as CSPACE. 
  • CPSACE is an initiative of Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC) on behalf of the state government.
  • The launch of the OTT platform, which boasts several unique features, will coincide with the state’s formation day (Kerala Piravi) on November 1.

India’s first indigenous trainer aircraft, HANSA-NG successfully completed engine relight test in air
HANSA-NG 2 seater flying trainer Aircraft, Design & Developed by CSIR-NAL, has successfully completed in-flight engine relight test at DRDO’s Aeronautical Test Range (ATR) facility, Challakere.

  • Flight test was carried out at an altitude of 7000-8000 feet with the speed range of 60 to 70 knots by Wg Cdr K V Prakash and Wg Cdr NDS Reddy, Test Pilots from Aircraft and Systems Testing Establishment (ASTE), Indian Air force (IAF).

Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s 31st Death Anniversary was observed as Anti-Terrorism Day in Puducherry on May 21,2022.

  • Chief Minister N. Rangasamy and various ministers and officials including Chief Secretary garlanded the statue of Rajiv Gandhi and paid floral tributes. The Chief Minister also administered Anti-Terrorism oath while Sarva Dharma Prayer was also held on this occasion.
