Enrolments under Atal Pension Yojana (APY) cross 5. 20 crore mark
The total enrolment under Atal Pension Yojana (APY) crossed 5.20-crore mark as on March 31, 2023.

  • The scheme enrolled more than 1.19 crore new subscribers in fiscal 2022-23 as compared to 99 lakh in the last financial year, depicting more than 20 per cent growth.
  • As on date, the total assets under management (AUM) in APY is more than Rs 27,200 crore and the scheme has generated investment return of 8.69 per cent since the inception of the scheme, according to a statement from the ministry of finance.

PM Modi inaugurates 6th edition of One Earth One Health-Advantage Healthcare India 2023
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and addressed the One Earth One Health – Advantage Healthcare India – 2023 conference at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi via video conferencing. The conference was attended by health ministers from across the world, as well as delegates from West Asia, SAARC, ASEAN, and African regions.

  • In his address, PM Modi emphasized the importance of holistic healthcare and a healthy ecosystem for human well-being.PM Modi underlined that One Earth One Health follows the same set of beliefs and is an example of the same thought in action.
  • The vision extends to the whole ecosystem, including plants, animals, soil, and rivers, emphasizing that when everything around us is healthy, we can be healthy too. This holistic approach to healthcare is important for the well-being of individuals and the planet as a whole.

US state Pennsylvania declares Diwali as an official holiday
A US State Pennsylvania declared the Hindu festival of Diwali as an official holiday.

  • Senator Nikil Saval and State Senator Greg Rothman introduced legislation to make Diwali an official state holiday in Pennsylvania in February this year. Pennsylvania has nearly 200,000 South Asian residents.

Australia to host third in-person Quad Summit on May 24 in Sydney
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, said that his country will host the third in-person Quad Summit on May 24 in Sydney.

  • It will be attended by US President Joe Biden, Japanese PM Fumio Kishida, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • He said, the Quad is committed to supporting an open, stable, and prosperous Indo-Pacific that is respectful of sovereignty and ensures security and growth for all.

LPI 2023: India jumps 6 places in World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index, rank 38
India improves in the logistics ranking of the World Bank by jumping 6 places to Rank 38 out of 139 countries in the 7th edition of Logistics Performance Index (LPI 2023).

  • India has been taking numerous initiatives since 2015 under the visionary leadership of the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to improve its logistics efficiency. The World Bank has acknowledged India’s efforts towards increasing logistics efficiency.
  • On 4 out of 6 LPI indicators India has seen remarkable improvement on the back of various initiatives being implemented over the past few years.


SPORTS

PM to inaugurate national games in Oct: Goa CM
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the National Games in Goa in October 2023.

  • According to Sawant, the inauguration ceremony is tentatively scheduled for October 23 or 24, depending on the Prime Minister’s availability. The ceremony will be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda, South Goa district.
  • The National Games will begin on the day of the inauguration and continue until November 10, 2023. The event is expected to showcase some of the best sporting talent from across the country.

Odisha FC clinch their maiden Super Cup title after beating Bengaluru FC by 2-1
Odisha FC won the Hero Super Cup 2023 Final by defeating Bengaluru FC 2-1. Diego Mauricio scored both goals for Odisha FC, the first one from a free kick in the 23rd minute and the second one in the 37th minute.

  • Despite Bengaluru FC’s efforts, Odisha FC maintained their lead and did not face any major challenge. Bengaluru FC managed to score a goal through a penalty taken by Sunil Chetri in the 85th minute, but it was not enough to make a comeback in the game.

Breast surgeon Dr Raghu Ram honour with Telugu Association of London award
Dr Raghu Ram Pillarisetti, a renowned surgeon, has been awarded the lifetime achievement award by the Telugu Association of London.

  • He is the founding director of the AKIMS-Ushalakshmi Centre for Breast Diseases located in Hyderabad. Despite his relatively young age, Dr Raghuram has become one of the few people to receive the award. He is also the only Indian living outside the UK to be bestowed with this honor.

Dalai Lama gets 1959 Ramon Magsaysay Award in person after 64 years
After a 64-year wait, members of the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation personally presented the 1959 Ramon Magsaysay Award to the Dalai Lama at his residence.

  • The award was the first international recognition given to the spiritual leader for his exceptional leadership of the Tibetan community’s courageous fight in safeguarding their sacred religion, which serves as the foundation of their culture and way of life.
  • The award was given by the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation in the Philippines in August 1959.

‘City Beauty Competition’ portal launched by Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry recently made live
The ‘City Beauty Competition’ portal, launched by the Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry recently, has been made live. Urban Local Bodies across the country can participate in the competition through an online process at www.citybeautycompetition.in.

  • The objective of the competition is to encourage and recognize the transformational efforts made by cities and wards across the country to create beautiful, innovative and inclusive public spaces.
  • The Ministry said, under the competition, wards and public spaces in cities would be judged against five broad pillars like- Accessibility, Amenities, Activities, Aesthetics and Ecology.
