Cabinet approves PM-PRANAM to incentivise states to promote alternative fertilizers
The Cabinet approved a new scheme PM-PRANAM to incentivise states to promote alternative fertilizers, said Fertiliser Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. Under the scheme financial assistance will be given to the states and the states will be able to strengthen the fertilizer system.

  • The government also approved the continuation of the Urea Subsidy Scheme with an outlay of Rs. 3,68,676.7 Crore committed for the urea subsidy for 3 years.

Canada launches ‘digital nomad strategy’ for foreign workers
Canada announced to launch its “digital nomad strategy” which will provide a temporary arrangement for foreigners to look for jobs in the country.

  • Announcing the development, Immigration Minister Sean Fraser said that “digital nomad strategy” will allow workers with a foreign employer to stay and work in Canada for up to six months. If they get a job offer while in the country, he said, they can remain in Canada even longer.

India ranked 67th on Energy Transition Index, Sweden on top: WEF
India has secured the 67th position in the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) energy transition index, making it the only major economy to witness an acceleration across all dimensions.

  • Sweden topped the list and was followed by Denmark, Norway, Finland and Switzerland in the top five on the list of 120 countries.
  • Releasing the report published in collaboration with Accenture, the WEF said the global energy transition has plateaued amid the global energy crisis and geopolitical volatilities, but India is among the countries that have made significant improvements.

Canara Bank offers UPI payments through RuPay Credit Cards
Canara Bank has introduced the facility of UPI payments to Merchants through RuPay Credit Card. This facility is made available in popular ‘Canara ai1’ Banking Super App of the Bank. Canara Bank is the first Public Sector Bank to introduce this Facility in association with NPCI.

  • Customers of the Bank will now be able to make UPI payments to Merchants from their RuPay Credit Cards also in addition to their Bank Accounts. RuPay Credit Cards can be linked to their UPI ID. This seamless, safe and secure digital payment method allows customers to make credit card transactions with utmost ease.

GAIL achieves Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) T3 status
GAIL (India) Limited has been accredited with Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) T3 Status which is the highest level of facilitation for Importers & Exporters by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, Ministry of Finance.

  • The coveted AEO T3 Certificate was handed over by Shri Naveen Kumar Jain, Principal Commissioner, Directorate of International Customs to Shri R. K. Jain, Director (Finance), GAIL in a ceremony.

Meta launches mixed reality program in India with $250k grant
Meta launched a new Mixed Reality Program in India with a grant of $250,000 (approximately Rs 2,05,07,050) that will be given to Indian startups and developers to build apps and experiences on the company’s Presence Platform.

  • Meta’s Presence Platform is a range of machine perception and AI capabilities for the Meta Quest Platform and the company’s dream of the Metaverse. With the fund, it hopes to foster innovation and nurture an ecosystem of extended reality technologies in the country.

US chipmaker Micron, Gujarat govt ink deal for semiconductor plant
Gujarat government and Micron Technology have signed an MoU to establish a semiconductor chip manufacturing plant in Gujarat’s Sanand.

  • Micron will invest $2.5 billion in the facility, which is expected to create 20,000 direct and indirect job opportunities.
  • The MoU is a watershed moment for India because the domestic semiconductor ecosystem will get a boost as other associated industries for raw materials and finished products related to this sector will be drawn to Gujarat.

Jhulan Goswami, Heather Knight, Eoin Morgan join MCC World Cricket Committee
Legendary Indian woman cricketer Jhulan Goswami and two English players in Heather Knight and Eoin Morgan have joined the MCC World Cricket Committee (WCC) ahead of its meeting at the Lord’s, the club said.

  • Besides Goswami, England women’s team skipper Knight and 2019 ODI World Cup winning captain Morgan too have joined the WCC, which is an independent body comprised of current and former international cricketers, umpires, and officials from across the world.

World Bank President Ajay Banga named in US Great Immigrants list of 2023 
Ajay Banga, the President of the World Bank, has been recognised on the Carnegie Corporation of New York’s annual “Great Immigrants” list. He is lauded for his contributions and efforts in enriching America and its democracy.

  • Banga, who became World Bank chief in June 2023, is the first-ever Indian American to lead the institution. He is the only honouree from India in this year’s list of ‘Great Immigrants’ by the Carnegie Corporation of New York.
