Hornbill Festival celebrated in Naga Heritage village Kisama
The 22nd edition of Hornbill Festival has been celebrated with colourful renditions of traditional music, dances, and contemporary in one roof at Naga Heritage village Kisama.
- Hornbill Festival is the biggest cultural extravaganza of Nagaland.It is also called the ‘Festival of Festivals’.
- More than 282,800 people visited the festival during the 20th edition in 2019, including over 3,000 foreign tourists and at least 55,500 domestic visitors.
Jal Shakti Ministry approves drinking water supply schemes worth Rs 267 crore for Uttarakhand under Jal Jeevan Mission
Jal Shakti Ministry has approved drinking water supply schemes of rupees over two hundred sixty-seven crore for Uttarakhand under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
- All 13 water supply schemes sanctioned are multi-village schemes. It will provide tap water connection to more than 23 thousand rural households.
- As of date, out of over 16 lakh rural households in the state, 7.43 lakh are getting tap water supply in their homes. The state plans to provide tap water connections to 2.64 lakh households by the end of next year.

China Launches Its First USD 6 Billion Cross-border BRI Train with Laos
China launched the first USD 6 billion cross-border train of its multi-billion-dollar Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) from Laos, which Beijing says will help the small and only landlocked country in South East Asia turn into a land-linked hub, boost regional connectivity and supply chain resilience.
- The 1,035-km electrified passenger and cargo railway, connecting Kunming in southwest China’s Yunnan Province with Laos’ capital Vientiane, fully adopts Chinese technical standards and consists of two sections.
- This is the first cross-border project under the BRI, China’s multibillion-dollar project in different countries with Chinese investments enhancing Beijing’s global influence.
South Sudan to end child marriages by 2030
South Sudan’s Government has promised to end child marriage by 2030 in line with the African Union’s campaign to end child marriages in the continent.
- Paramount chiefs from 10 regional states and the three administrative areas are meeting in the capital, Juba, for the second national conference on ending child marriages.

Shreyashi Singh retains Women’s Trap National Champion Title
Bihar’s shotgun shooter Shreyashi Singh won her second women’s trap title at the National Championship.
- This was Shreyashi’s fifth individual career national title and her second in women’s trap.
- The reigning Commonwealth Games Champion won with a finals score of 34, ahead of Madhya Pradesh’s Pragati Dubey and ONGC’s Shagun Chowdhary, who ended with scores of 31 and 27 respectively.
- In Bhopal, Rajshree Anilkumar Sancheti won the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team Competition partnering Paarth Makhija to beat the Gujarat duo of Elavenil Valarivan and Keval 17-11 in the finals.

Indian-American Mathematician Among Three Selected for Inaugural Ciprian Foias Prize
Eminent Indian-American mathematician Nikhil Srivastava, has been jointly selected for the inaugural $5,000 Ciprian Foias Prize for the “highly original work” in Operator Theory by the American Mathematical Society (AMS).
- Along with Prof. Srivastava, who teaches at the University of California, Berkeley, the two other awardees are Adam Marcus and Daniel Spielman.
- The award recognises their “highly original work” that introduced and developed methods for understanding the characteristic polynomial of matrices, namely the iterative sparsification method (also in collaboration with Batson) and the method of interlacing polynomials.
- The prize was established in 2020 in memory of Ciprian Foias, an influential scholar in Operator Theory and fluid mechanics. The current prize amount is $5,000 and the prize is awarded every three years.
