Rajasthan govt announces 3 new districts ahead of assembly polls
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced the formation of three new districts in the state.

  • The three new districts are Malpura, Sujangarh, and Kuchaman City. The chief minister said that the decision was taken keeping the demand of the public and the recommendation of a high-level committee.
  • With the addition of the three districts, the total number of districts in the state has now reached 53.

NITI Aayog state workshop on Women-Led Development
The inaugural edition of the Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP) – NITI Aayog State Workshop Series on Enabling Women-led Development through Entrepreneurship was organized at CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) Auditorium, Goa. The workshop was held in collaboration with the Government of Goa with a focus on the western region of the country.

  • The workshop recorded over 500 participants, including women entrepreneurs, local self-help groups (SHGs) and clusters, government officials, industry representatives, incubators/accelerators, financial institutions, philanthropic foundations, and more.

Tripura becomes fourth state to introduce e-cabinet system
Tripura CM Manik Saha has recently unveiled the state’s e-cabinet system, making Tripura the fourth state in India and the second in the Northeast region to adopt an e-cabinet system.

  • All future cabinet meetings in the state will be paperless, reducing the carbon footprint and environmental degradation in the process, with ministers and bureaucrats using tablets.
  • All ministers attended the event at the new Secretariat complex, where the chief minister launched the app to be used for the e-cabinet.

Madhya Pradesh announces 35 % reservation for women in govt jobs
The Madhya Pradesh government issued a notification for providing 35 per cent reservation for women in recruitment, barring the forest department.The government has introduced an amendment to the Madhya Pradesh Civil Services (Special Provision for Appointment of Women) Rules, 1997 to provide 35 per cent reservation for women in the state.

  • Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan recently announced that 35 percent of vacancies in police and other government jobs will be filled by women.
  • Madhya Pradesh was the first state to introduce 50 per cent reservation for women in elections to panchayats and urban bodies. It also has a 30 per cent reservation for women in the police. The state also offers concessional tariffs for registry of property in case it is in a woman’s name.


INTERNATIONAL NEWS

EU gives nod to “world’s first” green bond standards
European Union lawmakers approved new standards for companies issuing “green” bonds to help investors pick sustainable companies and avoid greenwashing or misleading climate-friendly claims.

  • The European Parliament voted in favour of the new voluntary standard for the use of a “European Green Bond” label, calling it the first of its kind in the world.
  • Europe is the world’s biggest issuer of green bonds, accounting for more than half of global volume in 2021, though issuance is still only 3% to 3.5% of the overall bond market.

Israel declares state of war as Palestinian militants launch rocket attacks
Israel has declared a “state of war” as its army continues to face off against Palestinian fighters in several areas across southern Israel.

  • This comes a day after a surprise attack by al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, the Palestinian group that governs the Gaza Strip.

Air India sets up integrated engineering warehouse in Delhi
Air India announced that it has commissioned a mega warehouse facility in Delhi to facilitate storage of over 1,000,000 engineering spares that are integral to maintenance, checks and repairs of its aircraft and ground support equipment.

  • Located in the proximity of Terminal 3, at the Cargo complex of Delhi Airport’s Air Cargo Logistics division, the centralized warehouse sprawling 54,000 sq. ft. (approx.), is aimed to improve the quick turnaround of the airline’s flights operating out of Delhi.

JioMart ropes in Dhoni as brand ambassador
JioMart, one of India’s leading e-marketplaces, has roped in Mahendra Singh Dhoni as its brand ambassador starting with the auspicious time of the festive season this year.

  • JioMart will roll out a new ad campaign with Dhoni which will go live on October 8.

Norwegian author Jon Fosse wins Nobel Prize 2023 in Literature
Norwegian author Jon Fosse has been awarded the 2023 Nobel Prize in Literature for his innovative plays and prose which give voice to the unsayable, said the Swedish Academy.

  • It added that Fosse is today one of the most widely performed playwrights in the world and has become increasingly recognized for his prose. The human condition is the central theme of Fosse’s body of work, irrespective of genre, it said.

Prof. Dr Joyeeta Gupta receives Spinoza Prize in field of climate change
Indian-origin professor Dr Joyeeta Gupta has received the Spinoza Prize, the highest distinction in Dutch science for her work in the field of climate change at a ceremony in the Netherlands.

  • The prize was presented to her by the Netherlands’ Minister for Education, Science, and Culture, Robert Dijkgraaf at The Hague.
  • The Dutch Research Council (NWO) prize is worth 1.5 million euros which Gupta intends to spend on scientific research and activities.
