Jewish Festival Of Hanukkah Celebrated Globally
Often referred to as the Jewish Christmas, Hanukkah or Chanukah is a festival celebrated for eight days, usually in the month of December. It is also known as the “festival of lights.” This year, Hanukkah festivities are taking place from December 7 to December 15.

  • Hanukkah is observed to commemorate the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem around 200 BC. Legend has it that during the Maccabean Revolt, Jews rebelled against their Greek-Syrian oppressors, leading to the term “rededication.”

Wax Statue of Baba Ambedkar Installed in Jaipur Wax Museum
A wax statue of Constitution architect, ‘Bharat Ratna’ Baba Saheb Ambedkar was installed in Jaipur Wax Museum, Nahargarh Fort on the occasion of Mahaparinirvan Day.

  • The wax statue finds its place within the grandeur of Rashtrapati Bhavan, sharing space with the likeness of another distinguished figure, Bharat Ratna Dr. Abdul Kalam, India’s Missile Man. This symbolic placement aims to capture the essence of two great personalities who have played crucial roles in shaping the nation’s destiny.
  • Crafted with meticulous detail, the wax statue stands at an impressive height of 5 feet 11 inches, weighing approximately 38 kg. The sculpture faithfully replicates the iconic image of Baba Saheb, depicting him with the Constitution book in hand and adorned in his signature blue suit. This faithful representation serves to evoke the image deeply embedded in the minds of the people.

Union Bank of India, a leading public sector bank in India is collaborating with Accenture to design and develop a scalable and secure enterprise data lake platform with advanced analytics and reporting capabilities.

  • The primary goal of this strategic partnership is to enhance operational efficiency, elevate customer-centric banking services, and fortify risk management practices at Union Bank of India. The collaborative efforts aim to harness the power of data-driven insights for informed decision-making.

Indian Oil and EKI Energy Ink Deal to Promote ‘Surya Nutan’
Maharatna energy company Indian Oil Corporation and Global carbon credit developer and supplier EKI Energy Services have collaborated to promote sustainable indoor solar cooking systems. EKI Energy Services and Indian Oil Corporation (IndianOil) have formalised a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to this effect.

  • Under the MOU, IndianOil will share the technology of Surya Nutan with EKI Energy to enhance its production and distribution, supported by carbon finance while contributing towards the betterment of society and the environment.

IBM Unveils Its Latest 1,000-Qubit Quantum Chip Named ‘Condor’
IBM has recently unveiled its latest quantum computing milestone with the introduction of Condor, a quantum processor boasting an impressive 1,121 qubits.

  • This marks a significant advancement in IBM’s quantum roadmap, showcasing a quantum machine with over 1,000 qubits for the first time. However, the company is now shifting its focus from sheer qubit quantity to prioritizing error resistance in its quantum machines.
  • For several years, IBM has been diligently following a quantum computing roadmap characterized by a doubling of qubit numbers annually. The culmination of this effort is the Condor chip, featuring 1,121 superconducting qubits arranged in a distinctive honeycomb pattern. This achievement builds upon IBM’s previous breakthroughs, including a 127-qubit chip in 2021 and a 433-qubit one in the preceding year.

ICC Launches New Vibrant Logo for Men’s and Women’s T20 World Cup 2024
The International Cricket Council has unveiled a new logo for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, the governing body for world cricket said.

  • The logo’s distinctive pattern pays homage to both the palm trees of the West Indies, and the ‘stripes’ of the USA for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 where 20 teams will battle it out over 55 matches in June of next year.
  • The emblem combines a bat, ball, and energy to represent the fundamental aspects of international T20 cricket creatively. The T20 lettering has undergone dynamic changes, forming a swinging ‘bat’ enclosed within a lively ‘ball.’ This visual depiction emphasizes the intensity in each ball bowled, illustrating how a single bat swing can impact the game.

Vice Admiral Dinesh Tripathi to Become India’s New Vice Chief of Navy Staff
The Government of India appointed Vice Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi as the new Vice Chief of Naval Staff. Currently, at the helm of the Indian Navy’s Western Command headquartered in Mumbai, Vice Admiral Tripathi is set to assume his new responsibilities on January 4, 2024.

  • The present Vice Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral SJ Singh, will be stepping into the role of the new Western Naval Commander.
  • Vice Admiral Tripathi has served in various prestigious roles, including Chief of Personnel at the Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence (Navy).

Captain Geetika Koul Becomes First Woman Medical Officer Deployed at Siachen
Captain Geetika Koul has become the first woman medical officer in the Indian Army to be deployed at Siachen, the world’s highest battlefield, the Fire and Fury Corps said.

  • This achievement follows her successful completion of rigorous induction training at the esteemed Siachen Battle School, which includes high-altitude acclimatization, survival techniques, and specialized medical procedures.

Google Doodle, the creative and artistic platform used by Google to commemorate significant events and individuals, has dedicated a doodle to Ahmed the Elephant.

  • Ahmed’s story is a remarkable tale of a majestic elephant born in 1919 in the forests of Mount Marsabit, Kenya. The doodle, featuring illustrations of elephants and tourists, serves as a tribute to Ahmed’s legacy and the efforts to protect him from poachers.

Prashant Agrawal Receives National Award For ‘Best Personality- Empowerment of Differently-abled’
Prashant Agrawal, President of Narayan Seva Sansthan, was honoured with the prestigious National Award for ‘Best Personality- Empowerment of Differently-abled’ by President Draupadi Murmu at a ceremony organised by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.
