Two day Regional Conference on “Physical and Social Infrastructure for Regional Development” begins in Guwahati
The Governor of Assam, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi inaugurated the two day Seminar organized by the Ministry of Finance on the theme of “Physical and Social Infrastructure for Regional Development” in Guwahati, Assam.
- The Seminar is organized by the Ministry of Finance, Government of India in collaboration with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS) and the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FICCI).
- The theme of the Seminar provides an opportunity to do an in depth analysis of the core infrastructure related issues of the North Eastern States.
High Level Committee chaired by Union Home Minister approves Central assistance of Rs 1,161.17 crores to 4 states & 1 UT
The Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh chaired a meeting of the High Level Committee (HLC) for Central Assistance to the States of Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Rajasthan and Lakshadweep affected by cyclones/floods/drought during 2017-18.
- The total assistance approved was Rs 1,161.17 crores.
Parliamentary Panel to Look into Black Money Recovery, Performance of PSBs
A parliamentary panel headed by veteran BJP leader Murali Manohar Joshi has decided to study the recovery of black money and performance of public sector banks among a host of subjects.
- The 30-member Estimates Committee, in a meeting, decided to study a host of subjects related to various ministries in the year 2018-19.
- As per the memorandum of the committee, the panel will look into the import of uranium for nuclear plants, mining activities and environment, upgrading of India Post offices and the drought situation in the country among other matters.

Chinese state-run bank launches India-dedicated investment fund
A state-run Chinese bank, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), has launched the country’s first India-dedicated publicly offered investment fund named ICBC Credit Suisse India Market Fund.
- It is China’s first publicly offered fund for investing in India as the Indian market offers the best opportunity for Chinese investors due to the prospects of double-digit growth.
- The fund will invest in exchange-traded funds listed on more than 20 exchanges in Europe and the US that are based on the Indian market”.

Paytm Introduces Automatic Recurring Payments
Paytm has introduced automatic recurring payments named ‘My Payments’, a new feature that lets users configure the payments app to pay for periodic recurring expenses automatically.
- The ‘My Payments’ feature can be used by customers to make high-value regular recurring payments for a variety of cases such as house rent, maid/driver’s salary, milk or newspaper vendor payments online.

Shooting: Heena Sidhu clinches gold
Indian Shooter Heena Sidhu clinched the gold medal while compatriot P Shri Nivetha settled for bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol at the International Shooting Competitions of Hannover, Germany.
- Heena in the final tied with France’s Mathilde Lamolle on 239.8 points. She won the tie to win the gold ahead of Mathilde. Shri Nivetha finished on 219.2.
Zverev wins maiden Madrid Open title
Alexander Zverev of Germany has claimed the 2018 Madrid Open title for the first time after beating Austria’s Dominic Thiem 6-4, 6-4 in the final.
- The champion became the first German player to win in the Spanish capital.
Halep remains on top of WTA rankings
Romania’s Simona Halep stayed at the top spot in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings released recently.
- Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki took second spot and Garbiñe Muguruza of Spain at third position.

Malayalam actor Kalashala Babu dead at 68
Veteran stage, TV and Malayalam film artiste Kalashala Babu passed away in Kerala at a private hospital. He was 68.
Noted lyricist, poet, politician Balkavi Bairagi dies in MP
Noted Hindi film lyricist, Nandram Das Bairagi, popularly known as Balkavi Bairagi died while sleeping.
- Bairagi, a Lok Sabha member between 1984 and 1989 and also a former Rajya Sabha MP, was 87.
