Total coins = 8x + 5x + 3x = 16x = 160
2. A boat takes 20 minutes more to travel 10 km upstream than to travel same distance downstream. If the speed of stream is 4 km/hr, find the downstream speed.

Now given:

10/(x-4) – 10/(x+4) = 1/3
10x+40 – (10x-40)/(x<sup>2</sup> – 16) = 1/3
80/(x<sup>2</sup> – 16) = 1/3
x<sup>2</sup> – 16 = 240

so downstream speed = 16+4 = 20km/kr
