Ujjain Unveils India’s First Hygienic Food Street ‘Prasadam’
Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya recently inaugurated ‘Prasadam,’ the nation’s first healthy and hygienic food street, in a grand ceremony at Neelkanth Van, Mahakal Lok, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh.

  • The ‘PRASADAM’ initiative aims to connect common citizens across the nation with pure and safe local and traditional food. He believes that this effort will align people, both residents and tourists, to adopt safe and healthy eating habits.

India to Chair UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee and Host 46th Session in 2024
In a first, India is set to chair and host UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee in New Delhi from 21st to 31st July 2024, Permanent Representative of India to UNESCO, Vishal V Sharma said.

  • This decision stems from a proposal by Indian authorities, made in consultation with the UNESCO Director-General. UNESCO, a United Nations agency dedicated to fostering global cooperation in education, arts, science, and culture to promote world peace, expressed enthusiasm for India’s role in hosting this esteemed event.

IndusInd Bank Introduces ‘Samman RuPay Credit Card’ for Government Employees
IndusInd Bank recently introduced the “IndusInd Bank Samman RuPay Credit Card“, equipped with UPI functionality, in partnership with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).

  • Tailored for government sector employees, the card is designed to offer a variety of exclusive perks, aiming to elevate their banking experience.
  • Combining the advantages of a conventional credit card with the advanced functionalities of UPI, the IndusInd Bank Samman RuPay Credit Card presents a seamless financial instrument. This card comes with a myriad of benefits, such as cashback on various expenses, complimentary movie tickets, zero fees on cash advances, and exemptions from surcharges on IRCTC transactions and fuel purchases.

LIC Approves Acquisition of 10% Stake in NHB-Promoted Company
Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) said its board has approved acquiring up to 10 per cent in a company promoted by the National Housing Bank (NHB).

  • In a regulatory filing, LIC said the board has cleared the proposal to invest in a new company, promoted by the NHB, for residential mortgage-backed securities, through equity contribution up to 10 per cent of the share capital.The investment is to be made in one or more tranches.

FIH inks four-year media rights deal with Viacom18
The International Hockey Federation (FIH)  announced that it has signed a major media rights agreement with Viacom18. This agreement runs for a four-year cycle (2023-2027) and includes all FIH events, except the FIH Nations Cup.

  • Indian hockey fans will be able to watch on Viacom18 channels the upcoming FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers, the first ever FIH Hockey5s World Cup, the FIH Hockey Pro League, the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup and many more events.

Germany win United Cup title
Germany clinched a maiden United Cup title as they came back from a rubber down to beat Poland 2-1 at the Ken Rosewall Arena in Sydney.

  • Alexander Zverev played a starring role, saving two championship points in his own comeback win over Hubert Hurkacz in the men’s singles to level the tie, before he teamed up with Laura Siegemund to overcome Iga Swiatek and Hurkacz to seal the crown.

Red Ant Chutney of Odisha Receives Geographical Indication (GI) Tag
In Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, the unique “Kai Chutney” prepared from red weaver ants has earned the Geographical Indication (GI) tag. This recognition highlights not only the dish’s flavour but also its nutritional value.

  • Known to be a great source of protein, zinc, vitamin B-12, calcium, iron etc, it is also claimed that it helps with healthy brain development and thenervous system.
  • The tribal dish has also gained mainstream popularity in the last decade. From being included in food menus across restaurants to getting British chef Gordon Ramsay’s nod of approval in 2018, the tag will help protect the distinctive flavour profiling, limiting dilution or imitation of the dish.

DRDO launches assault rifle ‘Ugram’ for Indian Army
Ugram, a state-of-the-art assault rifle of the 7.62 x 51 mm calibre, was launched by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

  • Ugram, which means ferocious, has been developed and manufactured in collaboration with a private firm.It is designed for the operational requirements of armed forces, paramilitary and state police forces.
  • DRDO’s Pune-based facility Armament Research and Development Establishments (ARDE) has developed the rifle along with Hyderabad-based Dvipa Armour India Private Limited.

EU Scientists Confirm 2023 As Hottest Year Ever Recorded
The European Union’s Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) declared that the year gone(2023) by was the hottest on record, significantly surpassing previous temperatures and potentially marking the warmest period in the last 100,000 years.

  • The announcement sheds light on the alarming trajectory of global warming, with each passing month breaking climate records and raising concerns about the consequences for the planet.
