Uttar Pradesh records maximum cases of cancer
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research Cancer Registry data, Uttar Pradesh, registered the highest count of cancer cases in India. During the year 2022, the state documented an astonishing 210,000 new cases, marking a significant uptick from the 201,000 cases registered in 2020.
- Of the total cases reported across India in 2022, as many as 8,08,558 died speaking for a mortality rate of over 55 per cent.Here too, UP topped the list with 1,16,818 deaths.
- The death rate for UP was same as the national average while Maharashtra stood second in terms of deaths.
CM Solar Mission launched in power deficit Meghalaya
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma launched the Rs 500 crore Chief Minister’s Solar Mission aimed at minimizing the power deficit in this north eastern hill state. The money will be invested by the government in the next 5 years.
- The people-centric CM Solar Mission will be a flagship Renewable Energy intervention committed to fostering green and clean energy transformation across the state.
- Apart from a substantial subsidy, it has back-end bank financing to enable beneficiaries avail the benefit at minimal investment.
LG Sinha inaugurates 9th India International MSME Expo and Summit 2023 in New Delhi
Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, has officially opened the 9th India International MSME Expo and Summit 2023 in New Delhi.
- This exhibition had about 40 exhibitors from Jammu & Kashmir. In addition, the Lieutenant Governor launched a District One Product (ODOP) box in Jammu and Kashmir.
- The Lt Governor also launched the One District One Product (ODOP) Box of J&K UT. He said, all the districts of J&K are being developed as export hubs and efforts are being made to take the One District One Product Box launched to the global market.
Kerala Assembly passes resolution to rename state as Keralam
The Kerala Assembly passed a resolution unanimously asking the Union government to change the name of the state to ‘Keralam.’
- The resolution urged the Union government to amend the Constitution to effect the name change. The name of the state is ‘Keralam’ in Malayalam, the official language of the state.
New Amravati station becomes Central Railway’s third ‘Pink Station‘
Central Railway has inaugurated the New Amravati station as the 1st “Pink Station” on the Bhusaval Division and the 3rd station on Central Railway to be fully managed by an all-women staff.
- The achievement of establishing an all-women managed station at New Amravati follows the pioneering examples set by Matunga station on the Mumbai division and Ajni station on the Nagpur division.
- The New Amravati station, which joins the ranks of “Pink Stations,” boasts a staff of 12 women employees who manage its operations.

Canada starts accepting PTE Academic scores for Student Direct Stream applicants
Students who have taken the PTE Academic test before August 10 are eligible to benefit from this new directive.
As long as these scores are submitted within the stipulated expiry period set by the IRCC, they can be used for Student Direct Stream (SDS) applications.
- Earlier this year, Canada’s Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) approved of Pearson’s English language proficiency test.

Sebi halves IPO listing time to T+3 days to benefit investors, issuers
Capital markets regulator Sebi halved the timeline for listing of shares on stock exchanges after the closure of Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) to three days from six days at present.
- The new listing timeframe will be voluntary for all public issues opening on or after September 1 and mandatory for all the issues which come after December 1, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) said
- The reduction in timelines for listing and trading of shares will benefit both issuers as well as investors. Issuers will have faster access to the capital raised thereby enhancing the ease of doing business and the investors will have the opportunity for having early credit and liquidity for their investment.
