4th Heli-India Summit 2022 inaugurated by Jyotiraditya Scindia
Minister of civil aviation Jyotiraditya M. Scindia inaugurated the fourth Heli-India Summit 2022 in Srinagar and said that a civil enclave will be built in Jammu and Srinagar’s current terminal and will be expanded three times to 60,000 square meters.The theme of the summit is ‘Helicopters for last Mile Connectivity’

  • During the summit the Minister announced 3 new projects for enhancing the helicopter sector in the country which includes HEMS and fractional ownership.
  • Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) is called Project Sanjeevani by deploying a helicopter in the next few weeks to provide emergency medical services at AIIMS Rishikesh.
  • Fractional Ownership Model helps to grow the non-scheduled operations.It will lower the barrier on the cost of acquisition of helicopters and airplanes through pooled capital by multiple owners

Mumbai airport makes 100% switch to green energy
Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has entirely switched to green sources for its energy consumption needs, making it one of India’s 100 per cent sustainable airports, said a CSMIA official.

  • Notably, the CSMIA was the first in India to launch hybrid technology that solely runs on green energy since April 2022. This sustainable initiative undertaken by the CSMIA is part of the airport’s efforts that reduces its carbon footprint and further propels its journey towards ‘Net Zero’ emissions.

Himachal Pradesh starts new scheme to help farmers
To provide irrigation facilities to farmers of Himachal Pradesh, the state government has started a new scheme named HIMCAD. According to latest data, about 80% of the agricultural area of Himachal Pradesh is rain-fed.

  • The scheme will provide end-to-end connectivity of farmers’ fields for better water conservation, crop diversification and integrated farming. Under the scheme, it is planned to provide command area development activities to 23,344 hectares of cultivable command area by March 2024, and the State Technical Advisory Committee has approved 379 minor irrigation schemes worth Rs 305.70 crore.


INTERNATIONAL NEWS

INS Tarkash represents India at 3-day multilateral maritime exercise, IBSAMAR VII
INS Tarkash reached Port Grequhrea, also known as Port Elizabeth in South Africa to participate in the seventh edition of IBSAMAR, a joint multinational maritime exercise among Indian, Brazilian and South African Navies from 10 – 12 October.

  • The harbour phase of IBSAMAR VII includes professional exchanges such as damage control and fire-fighting drills, VBSS/cross boarding lectures and interaction among special forces.
  • The Indian Navy is represented by the Teg class guided missile frigate, INS Tarkash, a Chetak helicopter and the personnel from the Marine Commando Force (MARCOS).

RBI raises Minimum Capital Requirement for setting up Asset Reconstruction Company(ARC) to Rs 300 cr
The Reserve Bank raised the minimum capital requirement for setting up an asset reconstruction company (ARC) to Rs 300 crore from the existing Rs 100 crore with an aim to strengthen the securitisation sector which plays a vital role in the management of distressed financial assets.

  • The existing ARCs have been given a glide path to meet the minimum net owned fund (NOF) requirement till April 2026, the RBI said in a circular amending the existing regulatory framework for such entities.
  • Under the earlier guidelines, each ARC was required to frame a board-approved policy laying down the broad parameters for settlement of debts due from the borrowers.

World Bank extends unconditional loan of $250 million for SALT project in Andhra Pradesh
The World Bank (WB) has extended an unconditional loan of $250 million to the Supporting Andhra’s Learning Transformation (SALT) project in appreciation of the path-breaking reforms implemented by the State government.

  • The reforms initiated under the SALT project had brought about a paradigm shift in the way education was imparted and that the outcomes had been encouraging. Besides, the facilities in schools were vastly improved under the Nadu-Nedu programme to provide an atmosphere that was conducive for teaching and learning.


BUSINESS & ECONOMY

Nitin Gadkari launches Toyota’s pilot project on flex fuel-strong hybrid EV
Union minister Nitin Gadkari launched Japanese car maker Toyota’s first-of-its-kind pilot project on flex fuel-strong hybrid electric vehicle (FFV-SHEV) that can run on 100 per cent ethanol.

  • During the launch, the Toyota Corolla Altis FFV-SHEV, which has been imported from Toyota Brazil for the pilot project, was unveiled.
  • An FFV SHEV has a flex-fuel engine and an electric powertrain, thus providing dual benefit of higher ethanol use and greater fuel efficiency, as it can run for a significant time period on its EV mode, wherein the engine is shut off.

Retail Inflation highest since April stands at 7.41%
India’s retail inflation accelerated to 7.41 per cent in September from a year ago on higher food and energy costs, the highest since April and above the upper end of the RBI’s 2-6 per cent tolerance band in each month this year.

  • Data released by the National Statistics Office showed consumer price index-based inflation (CPI) in September rising to 7.41 per cent from a year ago, compared to August’s 7 per cent.
  • The latest reading will pressure the RBI to accelerate policy tightening further, even at the cost of the economy, after raising its key repo rate to a three-year high of 5.9 per cent in four increments this year to tame surging prices.

Google launches Play Points in India 
Google is rolling out Play Points in India that were available in 28 countries around the world till now.

  • Users will be able to earn points when they make purchases with Google Play, including in-app items, apps, games, and subscriptions, Santos Cohen, Director, Go-To-Market, Google Play Points.
  • The rewards program will put users in four different categories — Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum, based on the number of points they have collected. They will be provided with different perks and prizes depending on the category they are in.Users can redeem their points from Google Play Credit and use them how they would like to on the store.


APPOINTMENTS

Roger Binny to replace Ganguly as BCCI president, Shah to remain secretary
India’s 1983 World Cup winning hero Roger Binny is set to become the new BCCI President as incumbent Sourav Ganguly, who held the position for three years, will make way for him at the Board’s AGM .

  • Jay Shah will continue as BCCI Secretary for his second consecutive term. Shah will also replace Ganguly as India’s representative at the all powerful ICC Board.
  • The only Congressman in the BCCI cabinet is Rajeev Shukla, who will continue as vice president. Sports minister Anurag Thakur’s younger brother Arun Singh Dhumal will now become IPL chairman. He will replace Brijesh Patel.
