Manipur to host the highest Indian national flag at INA complex
Manipur chief minister, N Biren Singh announced that a 165-foot-high Indian national flag, the tallest in the Northeast, would be hoisted at the Indian National Army (INA) headquarters complex in Moirang in Manipur’s Bishnupur district, for which a pole had already been erected.

  • Speaking at the 78th Anniversary of Flag Hoisting Day observed at INA Martyr’s Memorial Complex, Moirang, Shri Biren Said that the pole for 165 feet tall Indian National Flag had already been erected and the Union Home Minister will visit the State and unfurl the Indian National Flag as part of the State government’s 100 Days Action Plans.

Trishakti Corps conducts EX KRIPAN SHAKTI in West Bengal
The Trishakti Corps conducted EX KRIPAN SHAKTI, an Integrated Fire Power exercise at Teesta Field Firing Ranges (TFFR) near Siliguri in West Bengal. 

  • The exercise was aimed at orchestrating and synergizing the capabilities of the Indian Army and the Central Armed Police Forces to fight an integrated battle.
  • Units of the Trishakti Corps demonstrated their ability to hit hard and swiftly with precision during the exercise.

Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, UP ink agreement for hassle-free transportation
The Governments of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh have signed a Combined Reciprocal Common Transport Agreements (CRCTA) covering both contract carriage and stage carriage as its validity is coming to an end soon.

  • The combined reciprocal common transport agreement provides for countersigning of licenses for motor cabs, taxis, auto rickshaw registered in NCR for seamless movement single point taxation for mass public transport vehicles of state transport undertaking inter-city buses, to ease traffic congestion and reduce air pollution, clean emission norms.
  • All motor cabs, taxis, auto rickshaws, educational Institution vehicles and stage carriage buses of state transport undertakings (including City bus services) of NCR participating states will be covered under this agreement.

PM Modi Inaugurates 108 ft tall statue of Lord Hanuman ji in Gujarat
The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi has unveiled a 108 ft statue of Lord Hanuman ji in Morbi, Gujarat, at the Ashram of Bapu Keshvanand ji, via video conferencing, on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti.

  • This statue is the second among the four statues being built in the four directions across the country, as part of the ‘Hanumanji Char Dham’ project.
  • The first such grand statue of Hanuman Ji was inaugurated in the North in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh in 2010. The statue at Morbi has been set up in the West. The third statue will be set up in the South at Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. Similarly, the final statue will be established in East in West Bengal


Covid-19 plunged 77 million into poverty before Ukraine war
The pandemic plunged 77 million more people into extreme poverty last year and many developing countries can’t recover because of the crippling cost of debt repayments — and that was before the added impact of the war in Ukraine, a UN report said.

  • The report said rich countries could support their recovery from pandemic slumps with record amounts borrowed at ultra-low interest rates. But the poorest countries spent billions of dollars servicing their debts and faced much higher borrowing costs, preventing them from spending on improving education and health care, protecting the environment and reducing inequality.

India gets elected to four UN ECOSOC bodies 
India has been elected to four key bodies of the UN Economic and Social Council, including the Commission on Science and Technology for Development.

  • India gets elected to 4 @UN ECOSOC Bodies: Commission for Social Development, Committee on NGOs, Commission on Science & Technology for Development and Ambassador Preeti Saran gets re-elected to Committee for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
  • The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is one of the six principal organs of the UN System established by the UN Charter in 1945. It consists of 54 members of the United Nations elected by the General Assembly.


ICICI Bank signs MoU to promote GIFT SEZ 
ICICI Bank Bank and GIFT SEZ at GIFT City in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote the special economic zone to Indian as well as global businesses including IT, IT-enabled services and financial services.

  • As per the MoU, ICICI Bank and GIFT SEZ will jointly work towards attracting global investors and capital market firms to set up operations in GIFT SEZ.
  • Further, both organisations will promote GIFT SEZ among Indian and foreign MNCs as the preferred location for access to cross-border trade finance.

PhonePe partners with Extreme IX to enable faster payments
PhonePe, a digital payments platform, has joined hands with an internet exchange point, Extreme IX to enable a faster digital payments experience for 370 million PhonePe users.

  • This partnership will help PhonePe decrease latency for its users irrespective of their location or ISP in India.
  • Extreme IX said it enables peering which significantly reduces bandwidth cost for the ISPs and improves end-user experience as ISPs are able to deliver content at ultra-fast speeds.

Paytm becomes official digital payments partner for PMs’ museum
Paytm owner One97 Communications said it has become an official digital payments partner for the prime ministers’ museum in the national capital.

  • At the inauguration, Modi was the first person to buy the ticket through Paytm electronic data capture machine, the company said.


SIA, IESA ink pact to boost semiconductor co-operation
Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), a top trade body representing the US semiconductor industry, inked a pact with India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA).

  • The memorandum of understanding (MoU) inked aims to foster collaboration and identify potential opportunities between the two countries in the semiconductor sector.
  • Under the MoU, both associations will assist each other as the main counterpart organisation on semiconductor-related matters within India and the US as well as co-organise meetings between member companies to promote cooperation on issues of mutual interest.

Telangana signs pact with Thailand for trade, investment promotion
The Telangana government and Ministry of Commerce, Thailand entered into a Memorandum of Understanding aiming to promote trade and investments between both, an official release said.

  • The MoU is to kickstart the cooperation in SMEs and startups through the business incubator and innovation ecosystem “T-Hub” and “Thaitrade.com” of Thailand with the “GlobalLinker” of Telangana State, it said.

Indian Air Force signs MOU with IIT Madras to accelerate indigenisation efforts for ATMA Nirbhar Bharat
Indian Air Force (IAF) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for technology development and finding indigenous solutions towards the sustenance of various weapon systems.

  • The joint partnership between IAF and IIT Madras aims to accelerate IAF’s indigenisation efforts for achieving ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.
  • Under the ambit of MoU, IAF has identified key focus areas involving technology development and finding indigenous solutions towards the sustenance of various weapon systems. IIT Madras will provide consultancy duly supported by research for feasibility studies and prototype development.


New Zealand pacer Hamish Bennett announces retirement from all forms of Cricket
New Zealand pacer Hamish Bennett has announced that the 2021/22 season will be the last of his 17-year old career. The 35-year old has represented the New Zealand U-19 side, the senior men’s team, and domestic teams Wellington and Canterbury.

  • Bennett made 31 appearances for New Zealand across all formats, taking 43 wickets and was selected in the Blackcaps’ squad for the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup in India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.

India end Thailand Open Boxing Tournament campaign with 10 medals
The 15-member Indian boxing contingents ended their campaign at the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament 2022 in Phuket with 10 medals, including three golds, four silvers, and three bronze.

  • Gold medal winners earned USD 2000 while silver and bronze medallists took home USD 1000 and USD 500 respectively as the tournament witnessed thrilling competition with the participation of 130 top boxers including 74 males and 56 females, from Asia, Europe, Oceania and Africa.

Karnataka appoints Robin Uthappa as brand ambassador for Brain Health Initiative 
Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa has been recently appointed as the brand ambassador for Karnataka- Brain Health Initiative (Ka-BHI).

  • The Karnataka State Government in association with NIMHANS and Niti Ayog launched the Karnataka Brain Health Initiative (Ka-BHI) in January.
  • Training of doctors and preparations to start Brain Health Clinics in the three pilot hospitals has also commenced.

Vikram Dev Dutt appointed as Air India Asset Holding CMD
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, approved Vikram Dev Dutt’s appointment as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Air India Asset Holding (AIAHL), with effect from 27th January 2022, in the rank and pay of Additional Secretary to the Government of India.

  • Prior to this, Dutt was in-charge of Air India as a CMD till the airline was handed over to the Tata Group. Air India Asset Holding (AIAHL) was set up in 2019 by the government for holding debt and non-core assets of the Air India group.


AIMA honours Shoojit Sircar with Director Of The Year award for Sardar Udham
Minister for Road Transport and Highways, presented the 2021 AIMA Managing India Awards (AIMA) in multiple categories in Delhi. In the films category, Shoojit Sircar was honoured with the Director Of The Year award for Sardar Udham.

  • This year, the 12th edition of the AIMA Managing India Awards is being organised physically, coinciding with the 7th National Leadership Conclave.

Prabhat Patnaik selected for Malcolm Adiseshiah Award 2022
Renowned Indian economist and political commentator Prabhat Patnaik has been selected for the 2022 Malcom Adiseshiah Award.

  • The award is annually given by the Malcolm and Elizabeth Adiseshiah Trust to an outstanding social scientist selected from nominations received by a specially constituted national jury.
  • The award comprises a citation and prize money of ₹2 lakh. It will be presented at a function to be held in Chennai, the date of which will be announced later.


e-DAR Portal to speed up Accident Compensation Claims
The Ministry of Roads, Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has developed the portal named ‘e-DAR’ (e-Detailed Accident Report). The Digitalised Detailed Accident Reports (DAR) will be uploaded on the portal for easy access.

  • A web portal designed by the government in consultation with insurance companies will provide instant information on road accidents with a few clicks and help accelerate accident compensation claims, bringing relief to victims’ families.
  • e-DAR portal would conduct multiple checks against fake claims by conducting a sweeping search of vehicles involved in the accident, the date of accident, and the First Information Report number.
  • The portal would be linked to other government portals like Vaahan and would get access to information on driving licence details and registration of vehicles.

Neptune: Ukraine’s homemade cruise missile that struck top Russian warship 
Ukrainian military forces reportedly launched two missile attacks on Russia’s key warship “Moskva“, which led to its sinking in the Black Sea. The United States confirmed the attack, saying the Russian warship “Moskva” was struck by at least two Ukrainian Neptune missiles.

  • The 12,500-tonne, 610-foot warship Moskva was believed to be one of the biggest Russian warships damaged by enemy fire since 1941.
  • RK-360MT Neptunes are mobile anti-ship cruise missiles that are capable of attacking the enemy within a range of 300 km. The Neptune missile is a 16-foot-long, engine-powered missile that can travel at a speed of up to 560 mph (900 km/hr) and at heights of between 9 to 30 ft above the surface.


Children’s book on life and times of BR Ambedkar released
A new book “The Boy Who Wrote a Constitution”, released on the occasion of Dr BR Ambedkar’s 131st birth anniversary, seeks to inform children of the challenging boyhood and growing up years of India’s first law minister.

  • The fact-based drama, based largely on Ambedkar’s own recollection of his childhood, is written by noted playwright and author Rajesh Talwar. It is published by Ponytale Books.
