Andhra CM Naidu lays foundation stone for TU142M aircraft museum

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone for the TU142M aircraft museum in Visakhapatnam.

  • The Russian aircraft, which was decommissioned in March 2017 at INS Rajali in Tamil Nadu after 29 years, was brought to the city on April 8 to be converted into a Museum.

Most pollution-linked deaths occur in India

With 2.51 million deaths in 2015, India has been ranked No. 1 in pollution related deaths, according to a report by The Lancet Commission on pollution and health. China recorded the second highest number of such deaths (1.8 million). India accounted for about 28 per cent of an estimated nine million pollution linked deaths worldwide in 2015.

  • This figure is three times more than the deaths from AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria combined and 15 times more than from all wars and other forms of violence.

Lebanon passes first budget since 2005

Lebanon’s parliament has approved a government budget for the first time since 2005. For 12 years, political crises and wars have forced Lebanon’s state institutions to operate without a budget, an economic aberration that has angered many Lebanese.

  • But after three days of debate, lawmakers yesterday passed the budget — for the current financial year, not for 2018.

UAE declares 2020 ‘Unique Year for Space Sector’

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has highlighted its intention to make 2020 a unique year for the country’s space sector by launching the first Arab probe to Mars.

Solicitor-General Ranjit Kumar resigns

Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar, the country’s second-most senior legal officer, has resigned citing personal reasons.

The senior advocate was appointed Solicitor General in 2014, soon after the Narendra Modi government came to power at the Centre.

Adesina receives 2017 World Food Prize Laureate Award

Nigeria’s former Minister of Agriculture and rural development, Akinwunmi Adesina has received the 2017 World Food Prize Award. Adesina is also the current President of the African Development Bank.
