India and Singapore launch joint digital payment mechanism enabling easy and faster cross-border transactions
India and Singapore have launched a joint digital payment mechanism enabling residents of both the countries to make easy and faster cross-border transactions. Unified Payments Interface (UPI) of India and PayNow of Singapore have made a tie-up to facilitate these transactions.
- The facility was jointly launched by Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikanta Das and Managing Director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore Ravi Menon.
- Terming this launch a gift for the residents of both the countries, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, this will add a new chapter in fintech connectivity. He said, now people can transfer money with their mobile phones in a cost effective, swift and faster manner.
India to host Permanent Mission Roundtables at UN Head Quarter as Chair of G- 20
India will host the Permanent Mission Roundtables at United Nation Head Quarter as Chair of G- 20 and ahead of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Summit this year to be held in New York.
- During the event, the focus will be on India’s growth story and achievements and how these might be scaled for the potential benefit of the global South.
- On the 23rd of this month, a roundtable titled ‘Gandhian Trusteeship: A panel discussion on Sustainable Lifestyles and Enduring Pace’ will be held. A series of roundtables have been lined up for the next few months.
Govt forms cabinet secretary-led panel to monitor Mission Karmayogi
Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba will head a top panel comprising a senior official from the Prime Minister’s Office, seven secretaries, among others, to monitor the implementation of the government’s ambitious Mission Karmayogi programme for training of government employees.
- Mission Karmayogi Yojana was launched on 2nd September 2020.This scheme is operated under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to develop the capabilities of government employees.
- Under the Mission Karmayogi scheme, a budget of Rs 510.86 crore has been set by the government for a period of 5 years for about 46 lakh central employees.
Nitin Gadkari lays foundation stone of Maharashtra’s first Divyang Park in Nagpur
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari laid the Foundation Stone of the world’s largest and unique Divyang Park – Anubhuti Inclusive Park in Nagpur, Maharashtra.
- This park is being developed keeping in mind the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to build an inclusive society.This park will show empathy, hence this park has been named Anubhuti Divyang Park.
- The minister said the park will have facilities for all 21 types of disabilities,such as touch and smell garden, hydrotherapy unit, water therapy, independent room for mentally challenged children, mother.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launches Learning-Teaching Material ‘Jaadui Pitara’ for Foundational Stages
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launched a Learning-Teaching Material called ‘Jaadui Pitara’ for Foundational Stages in New Delhi.
- Under the National Curriculum Framework for foundational stage – 2022, this unique initiative of the government will help students of foundational stages learn in a play-way method with ease.
- The Jaadui Pitara’ comprises of playbooks, activity books, flash cards, posters depicting various stories, games, puzzles, puppets and many more items.

INS Sumedha reaches Abu Dhabi to participate in IDEX and NAVDEX
Indian Naval Ship Sumedha reached Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates to participate in Naval Defence Exhibition – NAVDEX 23 and International Defence Exhibition – IDEX 23.
- Defence Ministry said, the exhibition will continue till February 24,2023. The ship’s participation in two leading regional naval and defence exhibitions will showcase the strengths of India’s indigenous ship building and underscore the vision of Aatma Nirbhar Bharat.

Vedanta-Foxconn selects Dholera SIR for first semiconductor facility in India
The joint venture between Anil Agarwal led Vedanta and manufacturing giant Foxconn announced that it is setting up the semiconductor and display manufacturing facility in Dholera Special Investment Region near Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
- The Vedanta-Foxconn JV in September last year signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gujarat government to invest ₹1,54,000 crore to set up semiconductor and display manufacturing plant. It is the first semiconductor manufacturing facility in India.

BVR Subrahmanyam appointed NITI Aayog CEO
Former IAS officer BVR Subrahmanyam was appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of Niti Aayog.
- The former Commerce Secretary takes over from Parameswaran lyer, who has been named as the Executive Director of World Bank.
- According to an official communique, the Appointments Committee has greenlit Subrahmanyam’s posting for a period of two years from the date on which he assumed charges.
- Meanwhile, Iyer will be replacing Rajesh Khullar – a 1988 batch IAS officer who has been repatriated to his cadre state Haryana. She has been appointed to the role for a tenure of three years.

In Ladakh, country’s first ever Frozen Lake Marathon on Pangong Tso has been officially registered in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s highest Frozen Lake marathon. It was held at the world-famous Pangong lake at an altitude of 4,350 meters above the mean sea level.
- The Frozen Lake Marathon is first of its kind held in the country on Frozen Pangong Lake and is also considered as the toughest due to high altitude and freezing temperatures.
- The theme of the marathon is The Last Run and is organised with an aim to promote winter as well as border tourism in Ladakh while creating awareness of climate change. It was organised as part of vibrant village Program to accelerate the pace of development in border villages.
