S Jaishankar inaugurates “Geoffrey Bawa: It is Essential To be There” Exhibition to mark the 75 years of Indo-Lanka diplomatic relations
External Affairs Minister of India Dr. S. Jaishankar inaugurated the Sri Lankan exhibition “Geoffrey Bawa: It is Essential To be There”, at the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi

  • The historic exhibition which features the works of Sri Lanka’s iconic architect the late Geoffrey Bawa, is jointly organized by the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi, the High Commission of Sri Lanka in New Delhi and the Geoffrey Bawa Trust to mark the 75th anniversary of Indo-Lanka diplomatic relations, which falls this year.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Ugadi Milan function hosted by former Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu at his residence in New Delhi.

  • Ugadi or Yugadi, the festival reserved to celebrate the commencement of the New Year, is a day especially celebrated with pomp. Ugadi marks the beginning of the new Hindu calendar year which starts with Chaitra month. 

India invited for G7 Hiroshima Summit in Japan
India and Japan have signed two documents on the sidelines of the bilateral talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. 

  • The agreements include the Renewal of the Memorandum of Cooperation in Japanese language, and Exchange of notes on JICA loan for 300 billion Yen on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed railway project. 
  • Mr. Kwatra said Prime Minister Modi expressed his desire with Prime Minister Kishida to declare next year as the year of Youth Exchanges between the two countries. He said Mr. Kishida formally invited Mr. Modi to the G7 Hiroshima Summit. 

Nepal, India agree to formulate modality to supply electricity to Indian states via Bihar
Nepal and India have agreed to formulate a modality to supply electricity from Nepal to multiple states of India through central transmission line via Bihar grid.

  • The 14th meeting of the Nepal-India Power Exchange Committee concluded in New Delhi.
  • It was decided in the meeting to work out modalities for export of power from Nepal to various states of India via Bihar within a month.

 ‘City Finance Rankings, 2022’ portal goes live, MoHUA invites Urban Local Bodies to participate in the first of its kind initiative
The ‘City Finance Rankings 2022’ portal www.cityfinance.in/rankings has been made live by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).  The Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) across the country can now participate in the Rankings through an entirely digital, 100% paperless, process. 

  • The ‘City Finance Rankings 2022’ have been launched with the objective of evaluating, recognizing and rewarding municipal bodies across the country on the basis of the quality of their current financial health and improvement over time in financial performance.

NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) inks pact with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) for setting up renewable energy projects
NTPC Green Energy (NGEL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has signed a joint venture agreement with Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) for setting up of renewable energy projects to meet round-the-clock power requirement of IOCL refineries.

  • NTPC, through its wholly-owned subsidiary, NGEL, has set an ambitious target of building a renewable generation portfolio of 60 GW over the next decade to aggressively pursue its green-energy business.

Rohan Bopanna becomes oldest tennis player to win ATP Masters 1000 title
Rohan Bopanna became the oldest tennis player ever to win the Masters 1000 title, as he and Matthew Ebden of Australia beat the top seeds Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski 6-3, 2-6, [10-8] in the doubles final of the $10,143,750 ATP tournament in Indian Wells, USA.

  • The 43-year-old Bopanna broke the record of Daniel Nestor of Canada who had won the Cincinnati Masters title when he was 42 in 2015.

Ratan Tata appointed to ‘Order of Australia’ for bolstering bilateral ties
Indian industrialist and philanthropist Ratan Tata has been appointed as an Honorary Officer in the General Division of the Order of Australia (AO), for distinguished service to Australia-India bilateral relations, particularly trade, investment and philanthropy.

  • Ratan Tata is the Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, former Chairman of the Tata Group and one of the world’s richest entrepreneurs.
  • He tops the list of most humble entrepreneurs India has ever had.With a net worth of over $1 billion (accessed in 2022), Ratan Tata is a humanitarian

Nepalese Wicketkeeper-batsman Aasif Sheikh declared winner of 2022 CMJ Spirit of Cricket Award
Nepalese Wicketkeeper-batsman Aasif Sheikh has been declared the winner of the 2022 Christopher Martin-Jenkins Spirit of Cricket Award.

  • Sheikh was honoured for his sporting conduct shown in a Men’s T20 International between Nepal and Ireland in February 2022. The match in Al-Almerat, part of the Oman Quadrangular T20I Series, saw Aasif refuse to run out Ireland’s Andy McBrine, who was accidentally upended by bowler Kamal Airee when attempting a run in the 19th over of the Irish innings. 
  • The Award is presented every year by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), UK in conjunction with the BBC.  The CMJ Spirit of Cricket Award was created in 2013 by MCC and the BBC in memory of former MCC President and BBC Test Match Special commentator Christopher Martin-Jenkins (CMJ), who was passionate about promoting the spirit of the game.
